2022 Softball Season

Really confused about the continued decisions to send runners home from third on balls hit to the left side. Anyone know if the players are running through stop signs? Even Cat commented on the base running decisions.
BTW... I really like Cat on the color calls this year on LHN

That’s more like it!! We looked much more happy and comfortable and energized today. That’s the Janae Jefferson and Burke we all know and love. Smart move by Mike to move her down to the three hole. Now you add in Iakopo and Parker to this lineup and we’re back in business.

Simpson is a gem. Pitching wise I’ve been mostly impressed with her out the whole staff.

Agree all around. Her and Estelle have proven to be our best so far, thought we’d be saying that was Dolcini and Shea.

I want to see Shea start GM 2, she has started the season 0-3 with a 10ERA. We need to get her going again. We cannot afford another bad loss though, Tulsa is 4-6 on the season and a loss to them will not look good in May. If Shea comes out like she has so far I’d have a quick pull for Estelle.

and I hope smith doesn’t catch game two, she looks very uncomfortable behind the plate.

I was at the first game where Washington ran home and got tagged out. Mike held his hand up to say "stop". Washington was looking down and really was looking to score and did that on her own.

In the other instance, Burke took third and then decided to steal home on her own. Mike's hands were in his jacket pocket, so there was no go, no-go from him that call.

Ever since last year, JJ has had a problem hanging on to the ball. I noticed that often a ball would simply drop out of her mitt and straight down into the dirt. We excused that because she was hitting well.

What's troubling was the third strike dropped ball. We were talking amongst ourselves. One of two things happened and they're both bad for Smith:

1. She lost track that it was a called third strike and didn't rush to get the ball to throw to first

OR

2. She thought it was a tipped ball and not a called third strike by the ump and she didn't rush to find the ball.

Both are bad. She'd better keep up the hitting if she expects to play regularly this year. Unsure her catching is any better than Mary at this point.

Yeah I agree and just like that last play she has to make that catch at home plate. That was a perfect throw by Alyssa and an easy out at home if she catches that ball.

Mia Scott tied with Chelsea Alexander (OSU) and McKenzie Wilson (Baylor) with 7 stolen bases for the season.

Overall good win. May not be the offensive performance you want going into facing the Alabama pitching staff but, finding ways to win is the most important part. I think it’s become clear that Dolcini and Simpson are our top two pitchers right now with Czech being a great reliever.

I also think Washington needs to be our SS from now on. Parker can be 1st base or DP because we need her bat but, defensive wise Washington is clearly the better ss. I think we are making great strides slowly but surely.

Jenae giveth and taketh away. Great batting. Horrible base running, costing herself the bags she earned with those hits.

We looked like a completely different team than what we saw last weekend. Texas did everything they could but that umpire was just horrible. Simpson didn’t get any of the strike calls Fouts constantly got the whole night. Great fight and we looked like the Texas team we expected to see.

I know Im a "Homer" but the strike zone was terrible. Ump would not give Sophia bottom of the zone. Montana got it all night. You could here the crowd working the Ump in background...sigh

It forced Sophia to hang pitches. You could hear it in Coach White voice. You know he was pissed when he didnt end interview with "Hookem"..

Down 3-0 I was sure we were getting run-ruled. It was fun seeing the doubt creep up in Fouts' face after the second HR. But, the two double-plays, argh. Mike switched up the previous order that had Popelka batting after Scott, which now puts him in a bind now that she's later in the batting order and someone's on base. Oh well, they didn't mentally fold so that's a positive.

That was a mistake by Iakopo to try and catch the runner stealing 2nd especially with the speed of Goodnight at 3rd. Also on Jefferson because, she should’ve been there earlier for the cut off.

Nice comeback win today to finish a strong weekend. Team showed lots of fight which is growth.

Hoo boy. 5 HRs spread over three pitchers. At least the hitting finally came through. Although....I think the hits started happening when starting hitters were replaced in the lineup and out in the field.
