2022 Recruiting - Football

On S Bryce Anderson of Beaumont West Brook...

247 is comfortable saying Texas leads right now after speaking with him over the weekend.

Anderson told IT he speaks with coaches Joseph and Gideon every day, and UT is recruiting him the hardest with a Zoom meeting coming up soon.

He mentioned he's had family members who've played with Gideon, and they talk about what a technician he was as a DB.

IT believes it's shaping up to be an A&M vs. Texas battle, with Texas leading and Kwiatkowski's scheme being a big help.

Bryce Anderson, West Brook, Safety

IT has the recruitment of recently offered TE Jason Llewellyn of Aledo as 50/50 right now between TCU and Texas.

He grew up going to TCU games since he lives in the Fort Worth area and his father played there, but there are Texas ties in the family.

Coach Banks is giving the hard sell right now as to how TEs are going to be used in Sark's system.

Dr Joe, would you please share the stats and details of siz, speed etc of these young men?
Don’t lose these leans
Arlington Bowie OG Devon Campbell,
Tyler Legacy RB Jamarion Miller,
Martin LB Trevell Johnson

Campbell is a 5-star

Miller is a 4-, who has speed, like Blue

Johnson is a 3- who will probably become a 4-

DB Bryce Anderson, Beaumont West Brook — He does have the speed to play corner but would need to be coached up. He’s played quarterback/offense which helps make sense when playing ’through the looking glass’ on the other side of the ball. Nickel might be his best athletic fit but as a heady player a staff may prize him calling the secondary from depth.

PJ Locke’s cousin

Joe,
Having read that IT piece, it is clear that they don't have a clue how Jimbo's mind works, I sincerely hope Sarkisian isn't as stupid as they are.

He has not had great QB coaching to this point, plus the Calif Governor cut their legs off in 2020, but anyone can see the arm talent

IT with some info on Stewart --

Stewart's relationship with Quinn Ewers only adds to the intrigue of the sweepstakes. The Southlake Carroll five-star and Ohio State pledge has a bond with Stewart. When you're wanting to help build a class, it's good to know the local talent. That, added to the fact UT's new staff is recruiting at an aggressive pace, and they've got Stewart's full attention.

"I know that (UT's new staff) can put people in the league," Stewart said. "I know that they're going to develop me and run their offense smoothly. From the football side, that's all that matters."

NIL is a big deal to Stewart. We’ve written this since he emphasized it at the secret passing session last summer. TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, SnapChat; Stewart is keenly aware of his branding value and that’ll be a big factor in his final decision.

"It's major," said Stewart about the program he plays at and NIL. "It is major. It is a need."

IT reporting DE DJ Wesolak from Boonville, MO has been re-offered by the new staff.
DJ Wesolak, Boonville, Weak-Side Defensive End
DJ Wesolak on Hudl

Some quotes from Wesolak-

“Coach K, their defensive coordinator, said he loves everything about me. He thinks I can be the best pass rusher in the class. I already had an offer from Texas, but he (Kwiatkowski) reached out to me and said they still love me. He said that he and the D-line coach will be on me hard.”

“Right now, it’s difficult with Covid to tell who is in my top list of schools. Without question, Notre Dame, Alabama, Clemson, Texas, Oklahoma, Mizzou, Arizona State and Oregon would be there.”

Worth a look - still a position of need for us

IT likes our chances with Denver Harris, one of the top "must get" guys for us this class

Denver Harris, CB, North Shore
Harris is a kid that has always profiled to Texas, and UT appeals to the mom in a similar way it did to Vernon Broughton’s mom. Before football is even accounted for, UT has natural advantages of proximity, education, and networking. That said, the football pitch will have to uphold its end of the bargain. After Friday’s call, UT is striking the right chords.
Percentage: 80%

TFB on the competition for 5-star quarterback Maalik Murphy

UCLA* is the hometown favorite. Maalik said if the folks close to him could choose, it would probably be UCLA given the proximity. He also grew up a Duck fan when Chip Kelly was at Oregon. So, there is a lot of admiration for Kelly who now heads up the program at UCLA. I know a lot of folks see him ending up at UCLA and that may be the case but I don’t get the sense from him that it’s a forgone conclusion. Obviously though, they are major contenders.

Schiano and his staff at Rutgers are doing a really good job recruiting Maalik. As you know, Schiano had Rutgers rolling the first time he was there and they know landing a guy like Maalik would get them where they want to go a lot faster. While I still think it would be a tough pull for them, they are certainly trying and I can tell Maalik really likes those guys. I’d guess they may actually be Maalik’s favorite staff even if Rutgers isn’t necessarily his favorite school.

Oregon is, as I said, his childhood dream school and he said he would love to visit there. My read was Oregon is going to suffer the dreaded fate of the “childhood dream school” curse.

Texas has been in his recruitment for a while. He was offered initially by coach Beck. Maalik said that when coach Sark came in, Sark let Maalik know that his previous offer still stands and that he would be a target moving forward.

*His mom works at the UCLA hospital on campus

Out West, Murphy and Williams have the same relationship and want to go to the same school. They both like Tx and have high regard for Sark.
This one is going to be fun to watch.

HornSports put together a nice spreadsheet of the all the in-state guys we are looking at

That is a big damn net we are casting, that might be more people then Mack offered in his entire stay at Texas.

We are going to sign about 27 to 28 guys in this cycle, lets hope we get a few Junkyard dogs.

A CB came in for Murphy to Texas from a Notre Dame guy with a good track record (confidence level 7)
He is supposed to be on campus next week

Nick Harris of 247sports confirmed the trip

Murphy will not be permitted to have contact with the coaching staff due to the rules of the recruiting dead period but will be able to tour the campus, as well as the city of Austin during his visit.

Often compared to Cam Newton and Jamies Winston on the field, Murphy has the size, strength, arm talent, and accuracy to go up against any other quarterback in the class, but, also has the mobility to go along with his size and frame as well.

Murphy also has the leadership qualities and off-the-field work ethic that can be all too rare to find in a 17-year-old and, by all accounts, could challenge for the number one spot at the position before the cycle is over.

My only question is, what would getting Murphy do to the Ewers effort? And I’m not suggesting that one is better than the other...

Mike Roach CBd Johnson to us today

ESPN has him as a 4-star
Football Recruiting - Trevell Johnson - Player Profiles - ESPN

Johnson told our Super K he is close to making an announcement, we can confirm it will be a commitment.

The new staff has made Johnson a priority after he was re-offered on February 3rd. Should he join the 2022 class, he will be the second member on the defensive side of the ball, joining CB Jaylon Guilbeau.
