2022 Recruiting - Football

The 2022 WR dogs we want are
-- Evan Stewart (see above)
-- Chris Marshall of Fort Bend Marshall - we just offered. they say he is a "high priority target for Texas." Forget the 3-star ranking. We want him to commit right away
-- CJ Williams of Mater Dei WR (a teammate of Sark’s son). Supposed to visit
-- Raleek Brown of Mater Dei ("the Tyreek Hill of this class"). As a freshman, Brown ran a 4.3 at ou’s camp. On the second run, Lincoln Riley personally timed the run and got him at around the same time. ou has been all over him for some time
-- And Brennen Thompson I assume (but other than his constant positive tweets, I have not read much on our immediate pruit of him)

Stewart, Thompson, and Coleman (see immediately above) are the speed guys, which we need. Brown (slot) too, of course, but we may have started too late on him.

Marshall and CJ Williams are the bigger bodies

I know we will be killing it at WR with Sark as our coach, what we need is about 5 or 6 big nasty olinemen. I want to see some beef start to commit in this class. I've followed Texas football for years, the one thing I always took for granted was that Texas would always bring in the beef, I'm not sure what changed over the last 15 years but we sure changed.

These top-(10/12/15) favorite school posts are getting old. I think one kid did a top-20 list. Are they doing these to get social media follows from fans? I think at a certain number of followers the platforms pay you. Maybe I’m cynical

Offer to 4-star RB Le’Veon Moss from Baton Rouge, who has an impressive offer list already. The #5 RB nationally
And I bet you can already guess where the CBs point

Another high ranked WR, 5-star Kevin Coleman has us in his top 7 with Alabama, ASU, FSU, Georgia, Oregon and Penn State. #3 WR overall.
5-star QB Maalik Murphy quickly noticed

By coincidence, Coleman is in Texas this weekend
I don't know if on campus visits are allowed now but its a chance for staff to see him at least

New recruiting rules...

D1 staffs can call juniors starting Monday and other recruiting changes --
The NCAA on Friday approved a number of pandemic-induced rules changes in regards to recruiting and staffing.

Most immediately, Division I football staffs can begin calling high school juniors or their family members beginning Feb. 1, which is this coming Monday.

In another major change, just as the 2020-21 season doesn’t count toward a players’ eligibility, neither does it count on graduate assistants’ eligibility clock. Provided they are in good academic standing, GAs are permitted to return for a fourth season. Because everyone wants to spend more time living that GA life.

Not so. Ewers has some pretty good film on his ability to run, I'd say his running is more along the lines of Colt than Ehlinger but not as fast. Other than that his quick release is uncoachable as is his arm strength and accuracy. The kid is a generational talent. If you judged him on the state title game you need to understand that Westlake has one of the top 5 defenses in the state and were constantly in his face all game long.

Also had heard that Ewers was banged up going into the westlake game. I'll give him a pass.

From someone close to the SLC program on Ewers:

“I’m surprised you saw that, because seeing the field is what he is known for. He was running for his life in that game but still put up great numbers. What he was missing after returning from Hernia surgery was his mobility. He ran for 900 yards last year. RPO’s, QB draws, bootlegs, etc. designed runs, not to mention scrambles. He wasn’t allowed to do any of that and those calls were taken out of the playbook. The D knew that.”

Anyone judging Ewers by the one game is deceiving themselves. He is indeed a generational recruit and he should be the number 1 priority for Sark.
Ewers is saying he is sticking to tOSU but there is lots of chatter that the door is slightly open for UT.

For a kid that supposedly grew up wanting to be Longhorn who then committed to Texas, it seems odd hes so set on the Buckeyes in spite of Herman leaving. You'd think he be more than open to coming back. Unless he made some silly pinky swear to coach Day.

Ewers is in major like with the osu staff especially QB coach Corey Dennis , Urban's son in law. He doesn't have much of a relationship with Sark or most of our staff. Sark has to get into overdrive to build bridges.

Makes you wonder why he even committed to Herman at all then. Just a feather in his cap? He's 17 so whatever.

This is probably not good news for us (looks like he commits Weds)
The ou people think he is going aggy
Elko is close to Wiltfong. So if Wiltfong says anything about Bear and aggy, we will at least know where it came from

update - the aggy boards are not very optimistic its them. aggy Luigi doesnt think its them or us. Speculation turns to tOSU

update#2 - tOSU boards dont look very optimistic its them
