2022 Coaching Carousel

Darnit. Happy for her but it is a big loss for UT. I had been holding my breath since our run in the tournament ended hoping the coaches would stay put but it was not to be.

Freakin’ Okie Lite is to blame.

Dionnah Jackson-Durrett, who served as associate head coach at Texas, is UMKC’s new coach. She succeeds Jacie Hoyt, who last week was introduced as Oklahoma State’s new coach.
OU is to blame as well. UMKC’s AD got Coach JD’s name from OU athletic director Joe Castiglione according to Danny Davis
That lets me know she definitely in the mix for the OU job in some capacity

Not making any kind of political statement but of the 11 jobs listed on the main page, 1 is still open and 9 of the 10 jobs have gone to women.

If Vic is gonna hire someone to have the same title of Associate Head Coach like Dionnah, it will be someone who already has that title somewhere else, or someone who has coached several years and is deserving of that title.

He could also hire a head coach from a smaller school (non P5 conference) or a JUCO.

Is April Phillips our recruiting coordinator? It wasn't Dionnah.

I thought it was Calamity because she replaced Elena but it was not specified in the hiring announcement for her or April. Both of them were recruiting coordinators at their previous jobs.

I was under the impression that Coach McEntire is our recruiting coordinator. Coach Lovato previously held that role.

However, maybe Coach Phillips took it over when she was hired.

One name that could be an interesting option to replace Dionnah is Minnesota associate head coach Carly Thibault-Dudonis. She was a Vic assistant at Mississippi State before taking the Minnesota job and coaches guards. The daughter of Mike Thibault (Ariel’s WNBA HC). One thing that could be an obstacle: her husband is the HC at Wisconsin-River Falls and Austin would be slightly farther away than Minneapolis. Whalen’s seat has got to be warming up while Vic is in the world’s coolest recliner.

Good recollection.

Another name I'm watching is Chelsea Newton. Georgia has already named their new staff, and she's not staying in Athens. She will probably follow Joni Taylor to A&M. But, you never know.

Obviously, this is an important hire for Vic for so many short-term and some long-term reasons. But, whoever he hires will be coaching the (point) guards; so, that will be the main coach who recruits and potentially coaches 2025 PG target, Aaliyah Chavez.

Is there anyone left to fill these vacant positions? :idk: Plenty of opportunities for the next generation of up and coming coaches on every level.

If you're a coach, update your resume and start applying for jobs.

This account has had some interesting insights during the current carousel. Vic was very impressed by JSU.

I certainly would welcome her to the 40 with open arms but I would be surprised to see it being that she was already knocking on the door of a P5 job (rumored to be the successor to coach Yo at Ole Miss had she accepted the UGA job). Would also mean a shake up of responsibilities on the bench as April would likely move over to coach the guards and let coach Reed take the posts

She tweeted this late last night. Would also have to impact Angel Jackson’s decision.

I'd be surprised if Tomekia is joining the Texas staff. She is a naive of Jackson, MS. And, Kim has a history of hiring the coaches of smaller programs to join her staff. So, if she's leaving JSU, I'd predict Ole Miss or LSU .

My roll of the dice predicts LSU.

Agree - really wish she had a background working specifically with guards. She'll probably only be around the P5 program she joins for 1, maybe 2 seasons.

She seems to be a good fit at a University that shows the potential to live in the Top 10. What would be the advantage for her to move to Illinois?

Based on what, specifically?

If you've ever left one job for another one which you thought was going to make you happier, but it didn't, you have thoughts of wanting to go back. Buyer's remorse happens. Not saying that's what's going on with Calamity, but I can see it as plausible as it's human nature.

For those who hadn't noticed, Shauna Greene was named the new head coach at Illinois a couple of weeks ago; she was Calamity McEntire's boss at Dayton before Vic hired her to Texas.

Not to sound any alarm bells, but Calamity seems to be following every official Illinois athletic account out there on twitter.

Certainly wouldn't be ideal, seeing that we also don't have a guard coach. Especially with so much guard / perimeter talent available in the portal. It would also be a lot of turnover for Vic the last two years. Staff continuity is important.

Seems like Chelsea Newton will join Joni at A&M. Seems to be following every official A&M's athletic account out there on twitter.
