2022-2023 Season

Rest Jones if she’s dealing with the same injury she’s had the past couple weeks. We need her in the long run I just hope it’s not too serious to cause her to miss significant time like Moore did last season.

Also noted Hunter is still away from the team. A couple weeks away from the season and she’s still missing. The closer we get the more worried I get. I don’t know y’all it’s not looking very good at the moment:(

At this point as late as it is im beginning Hunter's first half of the season may be a washout. Guess it depends on how many workouts she has mussed. By the looks it it, workouts have been intense and im guessing she has missed a lot.

So maybe a month and a half to get basketball ready physically ? Then actual basketball ready. And heaven forbid this tuns out to be a doghouse issue. Wishing for the best here .

When you expressed alarm at the time this was first reported, I thought you were dramatically overreacting. Now that her absence has extended this long, I'm coming around to your perspective.

UCONN just lost Ice Brady to a dislocated patella and is out for year. She is a 6’-3” freshman forward who was ranked 5th in the 2022 class. Geno doesn’t typically play freshmen but with the loss of Bueckers they are down to 10 players on roster.

I remember this story about Ashley Bonneville, Leander high school basketball, baseball and volleyball player, saying she would try to walk on at Texas. She was 25-5A 2nd team all-district as a senior, Gisella was MVP (sophomore).

At last night's scrimmage there was a new face on the court that resembled Ashley Bonneville. I don't know if the new player is a walk-on or if she was just there to play in the scrimmage. She isn't listed on the roster but as we know, it sometimes takes a while for the roster to be updated.

I watched her warm up and she has a good looking shot. Whoever it was, she has potential.

Michael Huff is matching $1,000 per 1,000 fans and Buzz Williams MBB coach at A&M is matching. Great cause. I hope Moody is packed.

They showed the players in Halloween costumes and included Sarah Graves - I assume she’s the new walk-on. My guess this is her:

Am I correctly seeing that no tickets will be required to attend Wayland Baptist game on Friday? No tickets to transfer in the app.

Yes, but your eardrums will pay for it. This is the game they invite 40,000 screaming me-mes to attend. Great fun for the area schoolkids.

That game with the screamers has always been a late morning mid-week game when kids were on a get-to-know-the-University field trip, not a 7p tip pre-season exhibition on Friday night. Are you sure?

No, I'm not. Your memory is superior to mine.

Do you think it is 12/21, Houston Christian?

Best I can tell, it’s just not happening this year. Students aren’t going to have a field trip on 12/21 and there’s no other game that could qualify. Also, I couldn’t find a 40 acres field trip website for 22-23.

I normally take 20+ of my employees, so it’s a huge bummer for me. I’d really love to be proven wrong.

Rori #10 on ESPNs list of Top 25 players for the upcoming season. Voepel is usually pretty good but I completely disagree with that last sentence, Rori took over primary leadership last season, especially the last 15-20 games.

10. Rori Harmon, Texas
Guard | 5-foot-6 | sophomore
2021-22 stats:
11.4 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 5.0 APG

Harmon announced herself on the national stage last season with her performance in the Big 12 tournament, where she was named Most Outstanding Player. She then helped the Longhorns advance to the Elite Eight of the NCAA tournament. She had 180 assists to 80 turnovers and led the team in steals with 86. She might be a more effective 3-point shooter this season, and is already a strong on-ball defender. Although she's only a sophomore, Texas needs her to move into a leadership role right away. -- Voepel

ESPN's Best/Worst Case Scenario for Preseason Top 25 teams:

3. Texas Longhorns
Best case: In their first season in their new home, the Moody Center, the Longhorns jell successfully despite having lost four of their five leading scorers from last season. Led by Rori Harmon, Texas repeats as Big 12 tournament champion and betters its Elite Eight appearances of the last two years by making its first Final Four since 2003.

Worst case: The Longhorns aren't quite able to get over some ups and downs trying to find the right chemistry with a lot of new players. They fall in the Big 12 tournament semifinals and the Sweet 16. -- Voepel
