2022-2023 Season

As Vic spoke to the press the other day, he volunteered that there was "no update on Kyndall" as he shook his head; wish someone would have asked if she was on campus attending classes. Today I noticed that Kyndall has removed all reference/posts to Texas on her IG page.

I don't think you're being realistic. Getting nearly 5,000 in the stands for our first home game on a Friday night is really good in my book especially when it's against a non-P5 school like Louisiana. I can probably count on one hand the number of times we've had near 10,000 fans at home over the last 5-10 years (Baylor, UConn, Tennessee, maybe Stanford/South Carolina/A&M).
I think part of this is the game is on a Friday night, against a not top tier team, on a busy football weekend. I'm hoping the trend is up as we move forward to national teams and conference play.

It’s a busy time not to mention the high school playoffs have started for football and volleyball.

So tomorrow is my inaugural trip to Moody. Due to the NCAA Soccer playoff game at home against ATM the tip-off has been moved to 7:30. Anybody know what this does for parking at the Moody garage (not to mention traffic)? I’d rather my first trip not be complicated by this, but it’s the price of success lol

Looks like on TikTok she says the account got hacked:

I get the feeling we won't be seeing Kendall in a Texas uniform again and I'll be disappointed. She's a talented young player with tons of potential but something just isn't right. During summer and preseason workouts there were videos of her working hard, being vocal, and displaying lots of positive energy. Then official practices started and something seemed to have gone awry yet again. I can only speculate that there must have been some combinations on the practice floor that didn't suit her.
Again... pure speculation and still hoping for the best ending.

UCONN put 97 on Northeastern tonight. Fudd had 26. Wonder if Geno is saying let’s hang a 100 on Texas Monday?

Manor Garage is right by Moody, of course, and with people parking there before 5:00 for the soccer game, I wonder how many spaces will be left for us basketball fans. My email from UT encouraged everyone to get there early because of traffic around the garage. Website says the doors open one hour before tipoff. When I attended the Eagles concert at Moody in May I parked in the Trinity garage because it was cheaper--a lot cheaper. It was a little bit of a hike, though. There is an area for Uber dropoff/pickup but I've never used that service so I don't know how smoothly it works.

I agree with you 100%. I thought all those preseason photos showed someone on an uphill trajectory who had turned a page. Now, with all the cloak and dagger HIPPA restrictions, we may never figure out what happened.

UCONN put 97 on Northeastern tonight. Fudd had 26. Wonder if Geno is saying let’s hang a 100 on Texas Monday?

Azzi Fudd had 26 pts, Lou Lopez Senechal had 17 pts and Aaliyah Edwards had 14 pts and 12 rebounds. (Side Note: Lou Lopez Senechal is a grad transfer from Fairfield. You may recall that Fairfield was the gritty team that played us close in the first round of the NCAA tournament. She was the guard that sat out most of the first half after getting an elbow in the face that required stitches. Lou will prove to be solid performer on offense for the Huskies.)

Here are a few quotes from Geno after the game. He was happy with their defensive performance.

“Azzi is more than a shooter,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. “She scores a lot of different ways. I was happy to see her be so aggressive with the ball. There are going to be a lot of games that whatever reason when the ball doesn’t go in and you need to find a way to put points on the board. I think the more she does that, the people are going to have to respect that she can do that.”

Auriemma thought defensive intensity was the key to victory, despite scoring nearly 100 points.

“You are not going to score 43 points off turnovers on most nights,” Auriemma said. “I thought the way we played, we were constantly pushing the pace. The way we were after some loose balls that were 50-50 balls that we came up with and I thought we were constantly pushing to the pace to the point where I actually had to tell them during one timeout to slow down.”

Northeastern didn’t have its first basket in the second half until Camille Clement hit a 3-pointer with four seconds left in the third quarter.

Fudd scores 26 as No. 6 UConn beats Northeastern 98-39

Absolutely.

Senechal was outstanding against Horns. I was impressed with her skills and toughness and was hoping she might transfer to Texas. I like the Geno “pace” comments as I think that plays into Horns strength. It would appear that both teams like a fast pace. 43 points off turnovers is huge for UCONN. Bet Schaefer is preaching taking care of the ball this weekend. With both teams liking the fast pace…..and both apparently able to score, I think the game will be in the 60s with the winner in 70s. I’m betting UCONN plays zone and tries to run with every opportunity. Schaefer will soon find out if he has that wing who can play D and get back. Can’t wait for Monday night.

The longer Hunter is away…..for whatever reason…..the odds are she drops off the radar. She was never in the rotation last year, and with Schaefer trying to solidify his guard rotation with defense on the wings early this year, it’s not optimistic for Hunter. She never was going to fill that defensive need anyway. Jack and Muhammad may have passed her bye. Neither have her microwave scoring potential, but bring other needed attributes…..plus they are there.

FYI - I just saw a tweet from Drew Martin that veterans can get a free hot dog and soda at the game tonight with a military ID

I had a friend who went to men’s game last night and raved about the hot dogs. I had to go to Kroger’s today and buy hot dogs for tonight’s game. So I wish I was at tonight’s game to have a hot dog and soda…..AND watch a fun game. But I’ll be watching on TV gorging on cheap hot dogs and big red. Plus celebrating Veterans Day. Way to go Veterans!

On a cold, wet windy Friday……K State vs Wisconsin just started on B10 Network. I’m starving for women’s basketball. Go Kansas State!

As I try to interpret events, it was bringing in Sonya Morris and Shaylee Gonzalez, both of whom can play the SG position and fill buckets, and Shaylee who can handle back up PG minutes that really affected Kyndall.

During the press conference Vic spoke about 1. Kids having parents, trainers, friends in the ears of players, and 2. at Texas there will always be competition for minutes with teammates pushing you and one doesn't improve without that.

Go K-State! They’re definitely a top 25 team if Ayoka could play. And it’s cool they’re playing at a baseball stadium. After K-State game, I’m also excited for the South Carolina at Maryland game on ESPN 2, I think.

Like you, I’m excited for WBB.

Schaefer did an excellent job an answering a question on the portal and how it affects players and programs. I didn’t think at the time it had any direct message either towards or about Hunter. Still don’t. However, he may or may not have indirectly described Hunter’s situation. She may be dealing with other issues than from competition anxiety/depression. Who knows. I wish she was available. But just like a physical injury, the coach can only play with players that he has available.

KState looks very average. 27-16 early in second. They are shooting LOTS of threes and not going in. They are playing small ball without Lee. I too am looking forward to SC-Maryland game.

KState turned up pressure in second half, including full court, and pulled within one. Three point Wisconsin lead at half

I think KST will finish bottom of the B12, maybe 8th or so, TCU is the only team I am positive is worse. Watching their exhibition and opening games it’s very clear that without Ayoka they don’t have an offensive identity. They jack up way too many threes and are just average shooters. Lots of turnovers too. OU transfer Gabby Gregory was a steal for them in the portal, she’s been impressive so far.

KState won by about ten. They looked much better in second half. Their full court pressure and pressure in half court wore down Wisconsin. Badgers have seven freshmen and it showed. The pressure got Badgers tired.

Well…..I was concerned about UCONN before Rori getting injured. Very few teams beat UCONN on their home floor, much less CRUSH them. How many times have you ever seen UCONN beaten badly, especially at home SMH??? As I have preached over and over, you have to have enough 3 point threats to spread the floor and we DONT. At least not now. Losing Matharu and now Hunter really hurt us in that regard. Hunter would get major playing time this year. It’s going to take time for this group to grow and gel. Even if Rori plays against UCONN, it is a tall order to beat such a skilled offensive team on their home floor with the best coach in the history of womens basketball. We are a work in progress. Taylor Jones looks to be all that.

This is why if there is a chance to get Rori back for the Bahamas tournament at the end of this week, then I'd rather rest her for 5 days to try to get her back for the 3 back-to-back games that are coming up on Sat/Sun/Mon. Its not worth it to play her tonight unless she's 100%.
