2021 Recruiting - Football

Clayton Smith top 6 (no aggy)
FWIW, Smith's brother played with Valai and for Ash at Wisconsin
LSU seems to be the biggest threat

TFB thinks Smith is now leaning towards ou
(they do usually have good ou sources)

Rivals new ranking seem to have a very blowu spin to it. As in they moved 3 guys into the top 10 that are strong blowu leans.

4-star WR Ketron Jackson (6'2,190) from Lancaster says we are his dream school. Has does track and has a 24' in the long jump.

Nahlin/IT thinks we still have Mansfield Summit’s Hal Presley rated higher

But here is what Mike Roach/247 wrote about him --
I spoke with sources near four-star Royse City wide receiver Ketron Jackson last week. Texas is working him hard, and I think they'd have him already had they not offered late. Jackson was evaluated several times by Drew Mehringer, but he never pulled the trigger on an offer. Andre Coleman offered Jackson a couple of months ago, and so far they've been building a strong relationship. I was told that Texas is the school Jackson grew up wanting to play for, but the later offer is hurting them a bit right now. That said, I expect they will hang around in the race regardless and the longer this plays out the better it will be for Texas.

Sell the University, close the deal.

If we are his dream school, the late offer should not matter, especially considering the coaching overhaul. It drives me nuts how some of these kids (not necessarily this kid) get butt hurt over schools not pulling the offer trigger right away. In the real world, if your dream job comes knocking, you accept, no matter how many candidates were interviewed before and after you.

:soapbox:

We got commitments from both Jonathon Brooks and Casey Cain today! They are 3 stars but they're probably better than that.

There are also some CBs in for DT Marcus Burris to ou as well
Dangit

The one position I would say we can afford not to take someone is DT, so not worried that he is trending to anyone.

CB to Texas for this fella, Casey Cain. All I needed to see was first highlight

Watch the catch he makes at the 2:50 mark, I love LA kids, they tend to be less coached than Texas kids and more talented compared to the rankings. This was a good pick up.

I was going to come on here and mention that we seem to be filling up with bread, but both these guys look pretty damn solid to me.

LB Clayton Smith of Texarkana to ou

Also WR Mario Williams of Plant City, FL
They are having a good class

Ok let's cool off on the 3 star players and keep available room for the 4 and 5 star players please.
Have you watched any of their game videos? I guarantee they are way underrated at 3 Stars. Kind of like Cosmi and C. Williams and Tyler Owens.

Brooks averaged 10 yds./carry as a junior and his team played in the quarterfinals. This is Herman scoring with his staff's superior evaluations, again.

I wrote about the Louisiana WRs this class back on Apr 25

...Since we appear to be striking out with the top in-state WRs, we are pursuing more OOS players, including Jackson and Cain (see a few posts above)..... Louisiana in particular has a lot of WRs this class and LSU will no doubt sign some of the top ranked national WRs, so there is opportunity there this year.

I agree that there’s a correlation between rankings and on the field success, but it’s absurd to think that rankings are infallible. Since 2013, some 3-star recruits include:

Cosmi, D’onta, Lil’ Jordan, Connor Williams, Omenihu, Shackleford, Beck, Ojomo, Brewer, Hager, Roach, and Locke

The list of 4- and 5-star busts is just too long.

Lots of projects in this class, lots of talent as well. I like looking at other "real" offers vs. stars. We basically beat out Tulane and Texas Tech for these two commits today. I do like Herm's evals though, and trust his decisions but would be nice to start getting some dudes to start competing at a higher level...

Herman said something like he was done worrying about ratings stars and was going back to what he used to always do it, which was rely upon his own evaluations no matter the rating. I can't rmbr his exact words, but it was close to that
