2021 Recruiting - Football

Here is Inside Texas (Wells/Nahlin) on a couple of the DL targets

Arden Walker, Cherry Creek (Englewood, CO): Some interesting stuff here. He’s been in contact with Oscar Giles since the beginning of December and Texas was going to be his next visit before the 'Rona put everything on hold. Before the virus set in he visited Colorado, (aggy), USC, and (ou). His father, Arthur, is from Houston and played at Colorado. Schools of interest don’t match his .84 rating. Walker says with unofficial visits being up in the air he’s starting to think more about official visits. He’s going to sit down with his family soon to discuss those visits. If Texas pushed for an official visit I think they can get one. He seems genuinely interested. Seems like a real solid kid, too.

Keanu Koht, Vero Beach (Vero Beach, FL): He wants to visit Texas as soon as things normalize. He had to postpone official visits to LSU and Auburn already. He also wants to take official visits to Florida and Georgia. Along with Texas and the other schools mentioned, he said he’d like to visit (aggy). He’s an early enrollee.

From Mike Roach on Mukuba. This sounds better than some of the other reports Ive seen
Count Austin LBJ safety Andrew Mukuba as another prospect Texas is making moves with. There was a perception around Mukuba’s camp that the offer from Texas came way too late, but I’ve been told Texas did a lot over the last two months to change that perception. There was some buzz surrounding Mukuba and Oklahoma shortly after the Sooners offered, but I was told this week that nobody is recruiting him harder than Texas right now. Of all the players on the board, Mukuba might be the one I’m closest to putting in a crystal ball pick for.

For example, here is the Inside Texas version --
About safety, the scuttle around Kennedale’s JD Coffey and Austin LBJ’s Andrew Mukuba is warming up. Coffey and Ash are getting closer, but there’s still work to be done here from both sides. Coffey won’t go to a school unless he feels like a priority, which of course is smart.

Texas still has work to do on Mukuba. He’s being prioritized by head coaches like Lincoln Riley and Dabo Swinney. He’s had extensive contact with each of late. We think there’s a path for Texas to land him, and UT holds some home field advantages, but it won’t be easy.

If I read the article correctly, he decommitted for the purpose of taking visits. Doesn't say he doesn't necessarily want to play for Dabo.

Dabo has an inviable rule. Once one commits to Clemson there are no more visits. The corollary is once the recruit decommits, he does not get asked back.

Our current offering trend is getting even more extreme - today we offered a 3-star OL out of Connecticut -- Tristan Bounds - he says he is larger than the 247 measurement now at 6'8,275, with a 1330 SAT

Big dude mashing the locals

Another Ed Cunningham?

There is an upper limit for lineman and height. He has to be approaching it.

Some of that film is amusing -- imagine you are the typical 5'10, 165lb OLB from Conn and look up to see that guy coming for you.

Jimbo Elliott was about 6'8 or 6'9 when he played, so there has been a guy his size make it in both College and the NFL.

There are outlier examples for almost any set of data. I dont think they are evidence of anything other than to say that it is possible no matter how unlikely. Muggsy Bogues was a good guard in the NBA at 5'3. Jim Abbott was a good pitcher for awhile with one hand
