Cy-Fair RB LJ Johnson isn’t proving to be overly sagacious through his recruiting saga. He is struggling with his decision like few recruits we’ve covered. From what we gather, he is in contact more with Texas than A&M but we don’t know if that’s a tell. Classes have already begun at each school and S&C is set to begin next week at each school. As of last night, no decision had been made.

Tennessee RB Eric Gray is on campus for a visit.
He was a 4-star in 2019 from Memphis
In 2 seasons, he had 1311y/8 TDs rushing plus 369y/3 TDs receiving
He seems to be an APB who has also returned kicks
We want more depth, with or without LJJ

Roach says --
"It's independent of LJ Johnson. On that front, a source told me LJ's family had some personal matters and couldn't visit this week, but there is still confidence in Austin that Texas lands him."

This guys has very good quick moves and sees the hole where it's going to be, gets to it and through it before the D has a chance to react and close it. Good vision! Hope he trades out that rocky-top orange for Burnt Orange!

Would it be possible for you guys to take the "Texas vs California" conversation to a different forum? I am bombarded on social media with political crap and I come here to learn about Texas sports. Thank you for your consideration.
 
The "CB" for LJJ was Suchomel at OrangeBloods. OB is a Rivals site. And so "technically" it was not a CB, since CBs are a 247 creation. Rivals calls theirs 'futurecast.' (I think)
All 7 of the CBs for LJ at 247 are still aggy (100%) and they include Wiltfong, Roach, Nick Harris and Gabe Brooks.
But they get it wrong a lot (aggy more than others) so we will see

The recency of the Suchomel pick is still a good sign and reason for hope. Suchomel is pretty good at this but he admitted on his podcast he is just guessing (but so is everyone else). He thinks the fact LJ has not already committed to aggy is good news. And it was a flip as Such previously had it as aggy

Former OT commit of Herb Hand, Michael Myslinski will announce again today
I don't think he actually started at either OT position on his own high school team, which I believe went winless for the season
Not really sure what Hand was doing
They say he is now down to Iowa, Maryland, Michigan State "and Texas "
And, in case you forgot, he has a sister

Some comments from him about filling out the rest of the roster

“Every staff is different in what they want their roster management to look like from a specific numbers by position. I think the one thing we have to fight is just to fill numbers to fill numbers. We want to make sure we’re taking the best people, the best players at this point.”

“I think for us it’ll be probably a combination of taking signees here at the beginning of February, maybe taking a guy or two or three out of the portal, and potentially even saving a spot or two for down the road. There are some key components to it, but it’s more about just making sure we are fitting the needs that we think are prevalent on our roster now based off of the kids we just signed in December, as well as what’s on our current roster.”​

On the OLB transfer from LSU
“It’s just something we felt like we needed. Obviously, we had an early departure for the NFL draft, we’ve had some defection from transfers, we’ve had injuries. Every position is different.”​

It does seem that if LJ were sold on aTm, he would be committed. Hopefully Drayton, Bijan and Sarkisian will persuade him to come on over and be the next great RB at Texas. Could there be a better mentor than Bijan?

During his "meeting" with donors, Steve specifically mentioned DE & RB as being "lite", meaning we aren't as deep or have as many as he would like, and that would be an area of focus for the coaches.

Noticed he called him a DE in the press conference. Or maybe edge rusher, can't remember.
