2021 Recruiting - Football

Well, if Carrington is saying stuff like that to the kids or their parents, or their coaches, then I can see why our recruits are decommitting.
Fake people are ones who are not "woke". I'll switch it around and say woke people shirk responsibility in their normal roles in society and therefore lack excellence.

No good news on the recruiting front. Other than some cb's for Singer, anyone of note still left is trending away from UT.

Well looks like a good year to be a walk on. Going to be plenty of ships not used...
Going to have to hang around the dinner table and see what scraps hit the floor. We need OL , bodies if for no other reason than camp/ practises.

Sounds like Alabama for Camar Wheaton
The literally just get whomever they want
We have no say in the matter

They beat the ou for Wheaton. OU was an early player for LJ Johnson. Curious to see if they turn up the heat for Johnson and it becomes a gaggie , blow u battle. Unfortunately unless things change UT is on the outside looking in.

Alabama's 2021 class now includes the top-ranked players from Texas at these 6 positions:

— OT Tommy Brockermeyer
— RB Camar Wheaton
— WR JoJo Earle
— QB Jalen Milroe
— ILB Kendrick Blackshire
— C James Brockermeyer

We picked a bad year to suck at this

The ones that didn't pick Bama went to Columbus. But hey, on the bright side they aren't heading to Norman or Aggie. :brickwall:

How can anyone in the administration believe in Herman? The buy-out plus the lack of a "sure-thing" coach has paralyzed them. In the meantime, the future is locked-in. There will be no wind in our sails.

I don't think there are many in the "Administration" who believe in Herman nor do I think anyone is paralyzed.

Plan A was Meyer - on hold
Plan B would be a new head coach should Plan A not materialize

Plan K - Retain Herman and lose BMDs. - > 1% chance that happens

I get what you're saying. But we are helplessly watching as all the top recruits are snubbing us. We are either paralyzed or we are hopelessly outclassed.

We're just so far away from being nationally relevant. It'll take a lot more solid seasons before we can crest that wave of 10-wins, competitive for the top recruits.

We're in a bad cycle. In order to get these kids back , we have to win and win big and also show we're developing players consistently for the next level. Herman hasn't been able to do that with 4 and 5*'. How is he going to do that with a roster full of 2 and 3*'? This could be a 5-7 yr overhaul.

It's a pretty thin market for HCs without the Urb

How does this^^^suck? Let me count the ways. Nevermind, I can't count that high.

tOSU already owns our top 2022s
So it will be the same story this time next year too
(unless of course .....)
We’re leading for second- and third-highest ranked in-state prospects, but not by much. As of now, we lead for 5 of the top 21.

By the way, Ewers is the first recruit with a 1.000 rating since 2016. That span includes Trevor Lawrence. From 2000-2021, there have been only 5 recruits with perfect ratings: VY, Ernie Sims, Clowney, Nkemdiche, and Rashan Gary. All but one made All American (but only two made Pro Bowls) and all were first round picks. We need this guy. Has the bridge been completely burned? How did Herman F this up after he committed to us originally? Is it true he fought (verbally) with the family?

Let’s face it, we’re on a sinking ship. Recruiting matters, and with our best classes behind us we can hope only for a miracle year.

Ewers will not be coming to Tx as long as herman is the coach. His 2 known factors are that the offense we trotted out was not the offense we told him we would be running. That could had been early on with herman meddling.
The second is that he doesn't trust this coaching staff to have Tx in the national title hunt consistently. 2b is that he doesn't believe this staff can develop him for the next level.
Unconfirmed is that herman bad mouthed Ewers and it got back to the family. It was reported on other sites that his parents told folks around them as such during a Southlake home game.
Consistently known good sources are not committing if it's all true ir not. The most is "It may or may not have occured".

The possibility that herman did this is out there if we are to believe Zach Smith. (Yes a dubious source) the disgraced qb coach at tOSU. He stated that when he took herman to watch Lamar Jackson play , herman said Jackson was too dumb to play QB. Again, a dubious source but would lead credence in regards to the Ewers story.
Another indicator is the kids social media. If you can decipher some of the tweets from Ewers.
There is still time to turn the 22' class around, but not with herman.

From the IT article

How he fits at Texas: Lee is an elite skill athlete who could go in a few different directions with his football career. As a receiver at Rudder he’s closing in on a 1,000-yard season as a pass-catcher with 397 yards and counting in the run game, mostly on sweeps. His change of direction and acceleration are effortless but he can also high point the ball in the air and plays with physicality going for the ball or finishing runs that belie his still skinny frame. It’d be interesting to see if he’d be willing to try cornerback, where he could bring D’Shawn Jamison level athleticism and ball skills. As a receiver his best bet is as an H or potentially a Z receiver on the outside. — Comparison: D’Shawn Jamison (Ian Boyd)

Coach says: Strengths – Fiery competitor with explosive lower body. Has excellent acceleration and straight line speed with above average agility and change of direction. Shows great anticipation for the football. Great balance. Tracks the ball well and adjusts to the poorly thrown ball well. Catches away from his body and will attack the ball frequently. Very hard for the defender to read as ball arrives. Route running is very good with consistent pad level, good eye/head movement and violent hip action. Runs a variety of routes on film. Very productive and very versatile. A physical and willing run blocker.

Areas for Improvement / Concern – Main concern is the size but 10 or 20 pounds could make him an effective contributor. Would like to see him against press man. — Comparison: Joshua Moore

How this affects Texas: UTSA spotted this guy early, and before they could hold onto his commitment, he blew up. Texas, Tennessee, Ole Miss, and SMU brought offers to the table, and the 5-foot-10, 175-pound two-way athlete is definitely on the rise. UT has an abundance of slot receivers in the program, but not many with the speed (4.4 40) and twitch (4.1 shuttle) of Lee. UT needs at least one more receiver in this class and Lee might be that guy. I suspect a new staff will also find the Bryan native alluring. — Comparison: Kennedy Snell (Justin Wells)

The ESPN version of the 2021 rankings (was pre-Lee but he is not in the ESPN 300 anyway)

The latest ESPN recruiting rankings have Texas just outside the top 15 at No. 16 overall with a total of nine ESPN 300 commitments. The class is led by five-star composite athlete Ja’Tavion Sanders. The best player rated on defense is Dallas Kimball’s cornerback Ishmael Ibraheem, who happens to be the only current commit yet to sign. He is expected to sign with Texas come February.

The Longhorns top commit in Sanders projects as a potential All-American at two different positions. He can be utilized as a tight end or even the vacated spot as the ‘Jack’ in Chris Ash’s defense.

The Nine ESPN 300 Recruits
Ja’Tavion Sanders (13)
Ishmael Ibraheem (113)

Jordan Thomas (222)
Hayden Conner (259)
Jamier Johnson (287)

The only Big 12 school ranked ahead of Texas is their biggest rival, the Oklahoma Sooners (No. 12). Oklahoma has nine players in the ESPN 300 as well. They are the only two schools inside the top 30 in ESPN’s rankings.

Interesting that Ia St is that low coming off of this strong season.

I just can't buy into Herman is going to get fired in the next few weeks unless the drinking during stuff practice is valid. Why would we sacrifice 1-2 recruiting classes which in turn turns into 4-5 with all the upcoming losses. Why would an incoming coach not want to hit the ground recruiting and hiring a staff immediately? Seems like a 1% shot to me.
