2021 Recruiting - Football

Any recent news on the Holy Cross grad or the player that has committed to HC or the ones we are still after?
That is everyone signed who committed, except the one who got arrested. DL Barryn Sorrell from Louisiana is also sill possible - supposed to be lunchtime announce for him. Prev committed to Northwestern. He says it is us vs. ASU (Herm Edwards), Louisville, Northwestern, Vanderbilt and Virginia. Only a 3-star but a good player, we do want

I think this makes it 19 in the class

Barryn Sorrell

Analysis by Seahorn

" .... Sorrell has the look of a guy that is going to grow into a defensive tackle despite primarily being used on the edge in high school. He possesses good quickness off the snap and good power in his hands, as he is consistently able to hold his ground at the LOS and shed blocks. Sorrell uses his hands very well already at this stage in his development, as he routinely is able to beat opposing offensive linemen to the punch and gain the upper hand in the battle of leverage. Because Sorrell shows the ability to win with hands and keep his eyes in the backfield, he’s able to appropriately react to where the ball is going.

As a pass rusher, Sorrell also flashes a nice bull rush in his tool box and he also likes to mix in a nice “snatch” move that uses the momentum of opposing offensive linemen against them. Against the run and the pass, Sorrell shows good short-area quickness on tape and consistently flashes high effort and a hot motor in pursuit of the ball.

The fact that Sorrell is a former Northwestern commit speaks highly of his intellect both on and off the field and for me that is a big plus in the evaluation process. Northwestern has been known to pluck some gems and I think they found another in Sorrell. I think this could be an under-the-radar pickup for the Longhorns long term once he is able to redshirt and get up to speed physically for college ball...."

Texas is now relegated to recruiting at the level of the rest of the UT umbrella schools like UTSA, UTEP, etc....It isn't changing any time soon as A&M will now own the state along with Oklahoma. Texas is now a bottom feeder. Tom Herman --Program Killer.

While I agree that the Mensa prick must go, if you look at 247 or Rivals, etc I don't believe you will see "UTSA, UTEP, etc" ranked in the top 20 nationally in recruiting. Does that mean I'm satisfied with the recruiting now? Hell no.

But the catastrophizing is overdone. Not to mention inaccurate.

It does feel like we have painted ourselves into a corner
Hopefully, 5 years from now, we can look back and laugh

This is one of those could have been a hell of a lot better but also could have been worse classes. Top 20 is not where Texas needs to be, but its still second in Big XII (by a lot) and is they type of class 125-130 other FBS schools would take in a heart beat, so lets not pretend we are recruiting on the level of UTEP, UTSA etc.

Don't misunderstand me, OU is increasing the talent divide and God help us in two years when we play Bama, so this is not where Texas should be, but its also not a "the sky is falling we are doomed with no hope" class either. Hell aggy isn't even top ten this year and they are 50/50 to be in the playoff come next week.

Besides RB LJ Johnson, the other guy were are in on for NSD2 is OT Austin Uke

Oher names that might possibly pop up for later (not certain if any of them signed)
Erick Cade
Keithron Lee
Alton McCaskill
Ikechukwu Iwunnah
David Abiara (another one who was arrested)
Byron Young JUCO OLB/WDE
Quay Davis

Big thanks to aggy for opening up the state of Texas to those SEC west schools. Of course Texas needs to step up and do something about it but aggy’s temper tantrum move was a major catalyst for 12 of top 20 going out of state.

Why do kids go to schools where they have to wait 3 years for PT?

When almost 30% of the class chose us over Texas State, UTEP, etc. then you really are kind of competing against them...

Ok I have to say that with all our issues and the frequently mentioned (including me) that you want to recruit whomever ‘wants’ to play for Texas regardless of star rating, I am high on whomever we get. Thanks for coming and I’m pulling for you. If we have to struggle for a while with players that WANT to be here then let’s do it. Get us motivated players and bring in a coach willing to deal with our issues AND can coach then let’s rock!
