2021 Recruiting - Football

not sure i place the blame on the ags. sucking during during the strong era + herman igniting the dumpster fire we're in now+ big $ cigars fumbling the last 2 coaching hires ( saban & meyer) is the reason imo, not aggy. curious if austin city council runs our program...
The ONLY reason the sec wanted aggy was for a recruiting foothold in Tejas. Not saying Strong and Herman haven't thrown barrels of gasoline into the burning dumpster, but the erosion of state recruiting started with aggy becoming an sec pawn.

If I was a high school senior player considering recruiting this is how I would do it:
I would wait till a few days after NSD2. I think that's allowable.
I would already have a list of about 12 schools that I might like to attend.
I would see which recruits went wherever and see if my position is stacked with top players. Then choose the one with the least talent so that early PT is possible.
That's my number one consideration but there are others. I don't want to go to a cold weather School, anything north of the red River I would frown upon, although I will admit that one does get hot when you play football and coldness doesn't feel cold I will admit that, but anyway. I would also commit to a school rather than a coach. Coaches come and go. Offensive and defensive philosophies are important also. Sure there are other factors but this is how I would start.

Ketch drilldown on this class:

"On a day when the members of the 2021 recruiting class put pen to paper to fax machines or whatever is used these days, I'm not going to sit here and pretend that the Longhorns getting their last in-state four-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class didn't occur on June 15th, or that only one of the other two four-star prospects from the state of Texas that signed on Wednesday committed to Texas more recently than 15 months ago.

Two in-state four-star prospects in the last 15 months. That's it.

Barryn Sorrell
Analysis by Seahorn
" .... Sorrell has the look of a guy that is going to grow into a defensive tackle despite primarily being used on the edge in high school. He possesses good quickness off the snap and good power in his hands, as he is consistently able to hold his ground at the LOS and shed blocks. Sorrell uses his hands very well already at this stage in his development, as he routinely is able to beat opposing offensive linemen to the punch and gain the upper hand in the battle of leverage. Because Sorrell shows the ability to win with hands and keep his eyes in the backfield, he’s able to appropriately react to where the ball is going.

As a pass rusher, Sorrell also flashes a nice bull rush in his tool box and he also likes to mix in a nice “snatch” move that uses the momentum of opposing offensive linemen against them. Against the run and the pass, Sorrell shows good short-area quickness on tape and consistently flashes high effort and a hot motor in pursuit of the ball.

The fact that Sorrell is a former Northwestern commit speaks highly of his intellect both on and off the field and for me that is a big plus in the evaluation process. Northwestern has been known to pluck some gems and I think they found another in Sorrell. I think this could be an under-the-radar pickup for the Longhorns long term once he is able to redshirt and get up to speed physically for college ball...."

10+ minutes of film from 7 games
He played TE as a Soph, so is still somewhat new to playing D. Hits hard.

Well if Texas turns into Tennessee then Eagles and Co will get what they want because the racist history of Texas will have come back to haunt us right?

An irony in my opinion is that the SEC being in the deep south probably had many of their board of regents were pro slavery at schools like Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Georgia, etc. Yet Texas, even though more progressive yet still a part of the south is more ostracized and considered racist.
This due to minstrel shows? You telling me these other schools never had blackface minstrel shows.

Have a friend who was athletic director at a North Texas school district at the time. He said then that as soon as there were whispers of the gags going to the sec, he started receiving phone calls from every sec coach in almost every sport.
So yeah gaggy going sec sec certainty was a massive reason for the door opening.

RB's. Camar Wheaton and LJ Johnson are still out there.
Wheaton is ou or bama bound. We were his #1 at one point last spring.
LJ Johnson has the ags, LSU and UT listed as his 3. He is most likely going to let our coaching situation ride out then decide.

George Wallace, the Gov. of Alabama in 1963, stood in the door of the auditorium of the University of Alabama in a symbolic attempt to keep two black students from attending.

George ran on a platform of “Segregation now. Segregation forever.” Is the U. Of Alabama having any racial conflicts? Not that I’ve heard about. I’ve never been there, but I’ll bet there’s plenty of civil war statues and buildings named after Confederates. Maybe they don’t have our problem because they don’t have the Ivy League & West Coast radicals stirring up the toilet bowl like UT. UT prides itself on its radical staff.
