2020 Senate & House

Like most lawyers and members of the political establishment, his ideal candidate was Romney, who both dripped contempt for the working class, as well as being a coward who sat in the corner with his nose against the wall when instructed to by C Crowley and Barry at the debate.

You’ll have to forgive that segment, they’ve never gotten over the loss of Jeb! the Bush III, in 2016, who was all teed up to be the designated loser against Clinton.

Poor Barry, you’re slumping down to Scissor Boy status with that.

President Trump has never even violated a District Court’s order, much less become a National Socialist.

Personally, I was hoping for some Pinoce style helicopter rides for a select few, but he never even ordered those.

How is that a winnable race when by all counts even republicans seem to be happy with the democrat?

His opponent got 48.7 percent of the vote. I don't know who's happy with whom, but that's a winnable race. Nevertheless, Edwards isn't a terrible governor, and his win isn't what most bugs me about Trump. It's crackpot liberals taking over suburban districts all over the country that bug me.

I made more money in 4 years under Trump than 8 years under Obama. Money talks and bullshít like yours walks.

That's a nice diversion, but when did I bring Obama into this? I was never an Obama supporter. I opposed virtually everything the guy did.

I'd be worried if I were a pub. He's hijacked the party.

That's yet to be seen. For the most part, when a President leaves office, they stop being the dominant force in the party.
Memories fade a lot faster than people assume. Reagan had some staying power, but he's the exception, not the rule.

You haven't been around long enough to know, but I was always very tepid on Romney. He was a mediocre candidate at best, and his obliviousness to the middle class was a major critique I made at the time. I tore him a new one for the 47 percent comment.

And I never supported Jeb!. Decent governor of Florida. Crap as a presidential candidate.

You jump to a lot of conclusions about me and are rarely correct about them. Believe it or not, it is possible to not be a country club Republican and think the party should try to make itself more hospitable to the middle class but also not be a Trump fan.

It is possible to have nuance in one's approach. You can appeal to middle class voters and also to suburban moms. You can appeal to religious conservatives and to secular fiscal conservatives. The Reagan coalition was built around doing that. We treat these groups as though their views are entirely irreconcilable, but they aren't.

Can you give some examples (preferably with links) of when you thought it was deserved?

Off the top of my head:
I think it was Ok to get on his case for attacking others unnecessarily, especially the other republicans in the 2016 primary.

His personal life, especially his adultery. He's always been a dysfunctional person when it comes to relationships.

Spending was atrocious, especially during the Covid time.

Lies quite a bit although most politicians do this.

Arrogant, dismissive New York attitude.

I’m a fan of Trump policy, but not his antics. He has greatly improved the Republican Party and increased its participation from working class and minorities.

I think the republicans take back the house in 2022. Trump will not be the nomination in 2024 and I don’t think the normal list (Rubio, Graham, etc) are viable candidates for POTUS.

Trump will still have power with his constituency. I expect Don Jr. to run in 2024.

I would prefer Ivanka as VP choice. Then, DJT can continue his rallies with the voters by touring with Ivanka.

My business and investments did better under Trump, but I paid more in personal taxes. Presidential policy requires changes in personal strategy to make the most income.

If Trump hadn't said what he did during the 2016 primaries and election, we would be suffering under Hillary today. Which other R candidate would have fired up the voters like Trump did?

Y'all need to get over the "antics" and "attacks" narrative.

Come on, man!

Some of his antics were designed effectively but many were not. He could have tweeted policy daily, defended himself when needed and basically pass the MSM to communicate to the people. He didn’t need the immature parts though.

Reality is that like you can never remake a loved one's personality. You decide if overall you love them as they are or you leave
So it is with a POTUS
I really like most of what he has done for our country.

Let’s nominate Romney again and win back the upscale neighborhoods. To wit:

I had lunch with one of these Biden voters (Woodlands equivalent). Can’t stand Trump, likes his policies, and doesn’t think Biden will be too left. Same mindset for folks who voted for Obama, regretted it in part, and then voted GOP in the midterms. Kamala replacing Biden would be a real bait and switch for these voters if it happened. Regardless, Biden moving left is something Trump warned these voters multiple times. Sometimes you can’t fix stupid. I get it about the tweets but that is baked in.

You understand sarcasm, right? He also threw McCain in that comment. While Dems are for dead voters, they may frown on dead McCain being nominated.
I edited it to add McCain but given McCain is dead, I like it better as originally posted.

Burgess Owens did win UT-4
