2020 Recruiting - Football

OB now says their level of confidence Broughton is "very high."

However, at about the same time, aggy Hamm said Broughton is going full aggy

Stranger things have happened

Well we're looking pretty good for Thompson, Broughton, Rogers, Collins and Robinson.... that's a pretty good haul. Is there anyone else we look good for?

I haven't seen anywhere that we lead for Bijan. What are you hearing and who from?
I will admit that these five I listed that Robinson is the most least likely to join our team. I got the feeling that it was 33/33/33 chance so since I wear burnt orange glasses then he's going to us. Plus we don't have a pure five star running back unless you count Wittington.

I am sicked that we are letting those buckeyes take players that should be going to Texas. I get it that Ransom might see an easier path to starting if he goes up there, but how are they leading for Robinson. We have their coach that put guys in the NFL, we have a huge opening for an impact RB to come in and get playing time. We have a very good offensive line.

I'm sorry but it makes not sense that we don't have at least a very good RB committed. Our need is 2 runningbacks and as of right now all our eggs in other peoples baskets.

When your QB is the leading rusher for your offense, that surely turns the good RBs away !! Someone ( Ingram or Whittington ) has to be fed the ball and they have to produce if we are to start getting 4 and 5 star RBs like Bama, CLemson, tOSU, etc. I am afraid Herman is going to push Sam for the Heisman and get him merely invited to NY ( no way he wins it over Bama or Clemson's kids )
, and destroy any chance of securing a 5 star RB like we desperately need.

When Texas lands the next Charles, Benson, Ricky, Priest, Earl, Hadnot, Simmons, or even a healthy Newton or Fuzzy, they will be the leading rusher. I haven't seen that kind of talent in a while, maybe Ingram can become that, but I don't see it yet.

It's a bit of a catch-22, but the question these RB's have to ask themselves is, do I have that kind of talent?

Our runningbacks didn't have a problem with touches when Vince was here. Same with Colt.

It's not like Ohio state doesn't have athletic QBs that run, I mean seriously, the only reason Sam was the leading rusher is because we spread the ball out to several backs. Together our backs had way more yards than Sam did. Hope the coaches can fill this massive hole.

Hate to say it but the RB production could be that we have a very vanilla running attack. Its always slow developing between or off tackle. When we do run wide it is usually with the wrong ( slower) running back...and we always run out of a one back set to tell the defense '"That guy is getting the ball."

Our running attack is the same one that Herman ran at Ohio State with really good results. I don't think you can blame the offense for lack of production. Lets not forget that Ingram averaged 5 yards per carry. The big issue is he only touched the ball slightly more than 10 times per game not including pass attempts. Even if he were averaging 7 yards per carry that just isn't enough touches. He needs to be getting the ball 15 times a game plus another 5 as a receiver. It's just really difficult when you have so many weapons that deserve touches.

I personally only want to see Sam run with the ball maybe 3 times a game. Other than that he should only be running if a pass play breaks down. With that said, I know what is going to happen this year. We are going to see more of the same from last year.

The way I saw it last year: Ingram clearly established himself as the top RB, but our coaches didn't want him to take a pounding as a Freshman and get injured. Therefore, he did not have too many carries. The other guys (Danny Young, etc.) were the also-rans, who performed ok, but nothing like Ingram.

Now we have J. Whitt to go with Ingram. The likely result: Ingram and Whittington share the bulk of the carries roughly equally (maybe Ingram gets more carries, especially early on). Barring injuries, neither will likely get enough carries to dominate. Both should perform well.

After suffering through an anemic running attack, led by below average (to be charitable) offensive lines for around a decade, last year was a positive. So was the year before with Foreman. With the vastly improved OL, which under Hand will likely continue its upward trajectory, I'd expect a better and better running attack. A national level 5 star RB recruit would certainly help, and there's always room for improvement, but our running game isn't currently that bad. The national level 5-star RB recruit could help take us to the next level.

Last year, we seemed to be good at pulling and misdirection plays, including various versions of the Redskins-style counter trey. We also ran the draw well. These sorts of plays are necessarily slow developing rather than quick hitting. Tom has also shown the willingness to run more reverses than most teams. I'm not sure how pulling, misdirection, draws, and reverses are more "vanilla" than quick hitting dives or quick pitch sweeps... I guess that's in the eye of the beholder. I care about effectiveness, not style. As for the slower RB getting the ball outside, this year, between Ingram and Whitt, there really isn't a slow RB. This year, barring injuries, I'd expect Danny Young to be mostly a short yardage back, TE in the backfield type, or used as a breather for Ingram and Whitt. Danny might also catch an occasional pass in the flats--which he's pretty good at. He just needs to hold onto the ball.

2020 recruiting cycle: with the emergence of J. Whitt as a good RB, we can afford to be pretty picky and just go for the big-time players at RB. I hope we keep pressing on other 5 star/high 4 star level RBs and get one. We already have our fall-back 'plan b' committed with Hullaby, so we won't strike out entirely at the RB position. For whatever reason, Evans simply does not like us. I could understand losing Bijan Robinson to USC (even in their current state), an AZ school, or another West Coast power, but Ohio State...? :idk:

Which makes it strange why we were Evan's leader at some point.

Damon Sayles put in a CB for Vernon Broughton to Texas. I think Sayles is aggy
He now has 15 CBs total, with a flurry in the last 2 days - now 93% Texas

Rivals saying there was a delay in Broughton's announcement video.

"Vernon informed me that his video is not yet finished. I would not expect it to be released today, barring some sort of excellent, speedy production work. Timeline shifted to Tuesday or later in the week."

Wiltfong too now
Some people claim Fong doesnt crawl on board until the video is made (I dont know if this is true or not)

We will keep pursuing Rogers, in-state kids who commit early to out-of-state programs sometimes wobble after they have had time to fully digest how far from home they will be.
Meanwhile, we will pursue Ethan Pouncey (Jordan's brother) - who is a very good player. He will OV to Texas in the fall

Yeah. I can't read a 17-18 year old's mind better than anyone else. Perhaps his OL HS teammate/pal going to Alabama instead of UT was the biggest factor. Who knows...

I don't believe we were ever Evans Leader. We might have gotten some Crystal ball predictions from our cheerleaders, EJ and Roach, but he never really had much nice to say about Texas last year until after the Sugar Bowl, then he was beginning to say positive things for a little while.

Every time he was talking about what he was looking for in a school, he was describing Bama perfectly. surrounding himself with great backs so he didn't have to carry the load, to a great offensive mind. yada yada yada.

Teams might back off of him for a little while, but he is a generational talent and they will give in to any demands he asks for.

I think he is probably a great kid who is getting caught up in the bright lights.
