2020 Recruiting - Football

Here is some Justin Wells (Inside Texas) on Kelee Ringo and Jase McClellan --

Despite the overwhelming sentiment of Kelee Ringo’s inevitably pledge to Georgia, I’m hearing Ringo still reaches out to Texas and still wants to set up an OV this fall. I still see Georgia, but Jason Washington will shoot his shot.

As we mentioned last week, Aledo RB, OU pledge Jase McClellan will likely visit Austin again this September when the LSU Tigers invade DKR. That game will present a real opportunity for the “prove it to me” crowd. He's also talking to Alabama so there's that.

Another WR on the radar is Caleb Medford (6'2.5,190) from Henderson, currently committed to TCU. Justin Wells thinks he is one of the best WR in the state. Can see in the video he runs well, catches well, runs good routes, goes and gets the ball.

ou had one DB de-commit this week already and another possible on the way

4-star CB Dontae Manning from Kansas City is out
Dontae Manning, Raytown, Cornerback
and
4-star CB Ryan Watts of Little Elm, TX is the next most likely. We were interested in him earlier although Rogers has our full focus now at that position. But Watts is a good player.

Wonder if Bryson Washington is suddenly feeling lonely?

IT thinks this one is maybe a 2021 (hopefully RB Camar Wheaton, but the current rumor is TE Mcree from Lake Travis)
But i think there is still one or maybe two 2020 Carrington "shh's" outstanding and yet unaccounted for

FWIW, Inside Texas thinks LB Prince Dorbah, OL Chad Lindberg and S Chris Thompson, Jr. are all Texas leans, with Dorbah announcing soon.
They show CB Jahari Rogers and DL Alfred Collins as "slight Texas lean."
And they think DE Princely Umanmielen of Manor is leaning away from us.

mostly "horns" a little "agree" and a big "poop"

Most places have this trending aggy but TFB still likes our chances with DT Vernon Broughton --
“I mean my family can come down, like 2 hours out. They have nice facilities and everything. I’m good with Coach Giles, Coach Herman – I’m really good with them.”

Longer quote from TFB on Broughton - the other sites see him trending away from us--

"...... Broughton said he is not leaning in one way or another before the sit down meeting with his mom and grandmother.

The Texas front still feels good about Broughton, as he had this to say about the Longhorns and his recruitment.

“I mean my family can come down, like 2 hours out. They have nice facilities and everything. I’m good with Coach Giles, Coach Herman – I’m really good with them.”

Tom Herman has been very involved in Broughton’s recruitment as well, Broughton said he texts him just about every other day to see how things are going on and off the field."

Dorbah fills a big position of need at a spot we have not been recruiting particularly well for several years. He is something of a freak combo of flexibility and explosiveness. He looks like a topshelf edge rusher and future double-digit sack guy -- is probably better at this, at this position, than anyone we have now. His issue looks like holding enough weight to be able to stand up well in run defense. Ossai is listed at 245 now and that's probably close to where Dorbah will land. So he can do that too, just need the technique and effort.

247's Mike Roach made his guesses at “next to commit” --
1. Thompson
2. Rogers
3. Robinson
4. Lindberg
5. Broughton

My take on this amusing poll:
Ranked too low: Texas, Ohio State, Penn State, Utah, Wash. St (not ranked at all???)
Ranked too high: Georgia, LSU, A&M, UCLA, Tennessee

Its their FPI, not really a poll

The Football Power Index (FPI) is a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of a team's performance going forward for the rest of the season. FPI represents how many points above or below average a team is. Projected results are based on 10,000 simulations of the rest of the season using FPI, results to date, and the remaining schedule. Ratings and projections update daily.

FPI is a joke, It looks like a poll decided by a dart board. Last years ending poll was ridiculous. This is what happens when nerds try to understand sports.

Isn't the historically-good UCLA program currently still a train wreck? They were 3-9 last year, including losses to Fresno and Cincinnati. Am I missing something? (other than the people, or computers, who put this "FPI" together are very limited in their college football knowledge--might as well use monkeys to pull names out of a hat)

The Hammster said on texaggy radio this morning that Broughton is now a toss up. That's a pretty big shift in their position

I posted that for the comment by 2020 recruit Princely Umanmielen, not for the sake of the FPI itself.

Gotch ya. Clearly, Princely knows a bit about college football rankings and can see the hilarity of this bogus "FPI."

If these "10,000 computer simulations" result in a ranked UCLA (3-9 last year with a decent schedule to play this year), it calls into question the future of AI... :smile1:

Some Silicon Valley jack is probably lobbying for '10,000 computer simulations' or some new AI computer to pick the playoff teams. Who knows, if he had his way, last years playoff could have been Alabama, Clemson, UCLA, and Auburn. :rolleyes1:

Of our 8 commits --
-- 2 are ranked in the top 5 at their position nationally by the 247 Composite
-- 6 of 8 are ranked in the top 10
-- 7 of 8 are top 15 (the one outside is Hullaby who doesnt have a set position)

Good thing the big funds don't use "10,000 computer simulations" to pick stocks. Or wait a minute...

And I have it on good authority that some nerds in the computer science department at Rice ran "10,000 simulations" on a supercomputer that showed Rice beating UT 38-17 this Fall.

We're still many decades away (at least) from computer AI being able to replace human common sense and understanding--if that will ever happen.
