2020 Recruiting - Football

I am very hopeful. Recruiting is looking promising. Personally, I would rather have Bijan over Jase due to better speed but a 5 star is a 5 star and we'll take either of course. Vernon would be an important get also. Go horns:popcorn:

Top 5 for 4-star CB Joshua Eaton (6'2,175) from Aldine MacArthur
He seems pointed at aggy (we like Crawford/Rogers @ CB (and Ringo, of course))

Here is IT on the Ransom visit --
"Salpointe Catholic’s (AZ) safety Lathan Ransom made a return trip to Austin after his unofficial visit in early June. It’s been known these two visits were key for Texas to make up ground and potentially take the lead. We feel they've done that.
Program sources say Ransom, who was hosted by Brandon Jones, loved his return to campus and that the Horns are in a great spot moving forward.
We think this has become a two-horse race; Texas and Ohio State. Ransom will visit Columbus for an official visit this coming weekend. That trip will tell us where Texas stands going into the dead period (6/24). At this point, Texas is more likely to land the Salpointe duo of Ransom and Bijan Robinson than to split them or land neither."

An Ohio St mod also put in a CB for S Chris Thompson, Jr. to Texas.
Just like with Broughton, this was after his OV there.

247 thinks S Chris Thompson, Jr. of Duncanville will shut down recruiting after his OV to USC this weekend. They also think Texas is in good shape.

Anyone want to argue with Bucknutz?

APB/slot Ty Jordan of West Mesquite on campus Tuesday. Jordan wanted to get back to campus before the next dead period (and before he OVs to USC). He has saved his OV to Texas for sometime during the season.
We sort of lost out in the 2018 version of 5-star RB musical chairs. We seem determined to not let same thing happen again this class.

Hey JF,
Can underclassmen take OV’s? Kids coming in from Ohio, and Virginia must be flying in, or taking the windshield tour. Will it all be on their dime?

This rule applies to everyone except mens/womens BBall recruits. Still only one OV to any one school in any sport, any level. And same cap of 5 OVs max.

Due to a rule update by the NCAA, effective May 1, 2019, official visits for all other DI sports can begin August 1 before the athlete's junior year of high school. For almost all sports, this bumps up the official visit date.

Within these official rules, each school will have a slightly different way in which they conduct visits. Some schools will be able to finance your whole trip, paying for transportation, meals, lodging and tickets to a home game. But this is the maximum of what colleges can provide for their recruits. Some programs simply may not have the money to pay for your entire visit, opting to finance just a small portion of your visit. An official visit can also include having an on-campus lunch or dinner that is purchased by the coach. It doesn’t have to last the full 48 hours—again, that’s the maximum amount but not a requirement.

TFB says CB Jahari Rogers (visiting this weekend) might make his decision within the next week or two.

And WR Quentin Johnston of Temple may make in in for the big pool party weekend (=a good sign if so)

Man SC is a sleeping giant.
How can that situation get any worse?
Still getting national recruits to OV?

I get USC still pulling many top Cali and Ariz recruits. Historically, they are the dominant program in that corner of the nation.

But... Why any Texas recruit would go to USC at this point is baffling. Once great, even dominant, USC is now a train wreck that will likely take time to fix.

It will take USC time to get out of the pit they're in. But apparently, their "brand" is even stronger than I had thought with recruits. And I've always considered it strong.

Fortunately, we also have one of the strongest "brands" in the game.

CB for Kendall Milton to UGA.

Anywhere but Norman if it’s not here on that kind of talent.

If you have to tackle a kid like that, you want it to be in January.

It's a good thing they suck at throwing the ball because they sure do have some horses that can run.

Card will be on same team with WR Johnny Wilson at The Opening Finals
Good chance to make a connection, or two.
