2020 Recruiting - Football

This is a bit unusual, as we are not exactly Mike Farrell's favorite team, but he has us as his most underrated recruiting class

1. Texas — Things have been very up and down for Tom Herman and company in this class and all year on the field, but there is a ton of talent left in here. The quarterback position has been well addressed and Bijan Robinson is going to be a star, but some of the defensive commitments really have me more excited for Texas fans. Vernon Broughton and others will help this defense early.

Inside Texas has an article saying --

For the life of me I cannot remember a large group of early enrollees who won't be needed early on.

Perspective: A few years ago we'd be pouring over the below collection of signees wondering how much they can help as true freshmen. That includes the quarterback, an offensive lineman or two, and expecting Vernon Broughton to make an immediate impact. Because the depth chart is in good health, expectations for early playing time should be tempered across the board.

In the coming days these players will begin their college football odyssey. It's a time for optimism, but it's also a time for them to get to work, put their head down, and buy into consistently doing what it takes to succeed when you're no longer the best player on the field. This should be a humbling next few months.

Michigan State pundit has CB Rakestraw to Alabama....

no surprise here since he has already stated that was his dream school.....but still a little time left to turn the 'tide'

They are saying 2020 DE Alfred Collins may be on campus this weekend for the recruiting event, even though its aimed at 2021s

ATH Kelvontay Dixon of Carthage moved his OV to Texas to Jan 24
Dixon is a player I'd really like to sign. He's an explosive playmaker with elite speed and athletic ability:

10.81 100 meter dash (sixth in State)
Second in State at the triple jump
15.3 yards per catch
Caught 84 passes for 1,288 yards and 17 TDs

Some Roach on Rakestraw

" ..... Texas recently joined the offer parade for Rakestraw as new defensive coordinator Chris Ash pulled the trigger on an offer last week. Rakestraw said he grew up watching Texas, and he loves the opportunity to represent Duncanville. “It means I can put on for my city,” he said. “I’ve been watching them since I was little.”

Rakestraw is still figuring out how to use his fourth visit. He has three officials scheduled, but he plans to talk to his family to see if he can make it to Texas. “I’ve got to talk to my people about it,” he said. “I can take four. Right now, it’s Georgia, Missouri, and Alabama but I’ve got to talk to Texas.”

Rakestraw really doesn’t know when or how he will announce his choice, but he’s got an eye towards signing day in February. “I might make the decision on signing day,” he said. “I’m really not sure.”...."

Apparently Yurcich wants him, so we cranked it up
Looking at our depth chart, I think we need him (and Moore for that matter - leave JWhit at RB)
