2020 Recruiting - Football

After all the talk about CB Isaiah Dunson, Texas 247 now thinks we are "moving in a different direction"...
Maybe he wasnt Big 12 ready

BOLH, what gives you that impression regarding Dunson?
Lack of competition against national best WR and no track time. Otherwise, he is very close to Rakestraw.

He had visits scheduled for Texas and Wisconsin he blew off (or did he?) to make and instant decision. Also, Miami seems heavily invested in the snake oil business, again.

Seemed mostly insecure and impatient.

Ive read speed and hips on Dunston
Problem here is we waited so late on Rakestraw. They say he will probably go with Alabama if they have room and push. But if Bama doesn't, we should be next up.

A few other tidbits -- we like out chances with Dixon, Collins and even Umanmielen. I'm a little mixed on Umanmielen at this point, not really worried about it.

Apparently no one has a good feel for what 4-star RB Kevontre Bradford (Lancaster) is going to do. This is contrary to what Mike Roach has been saying, which is that he will commit if we pushed.

Javonne Shepherd has been begging to get back on the team.

At WR, we supposedly want 2 more. It also sounds like Yurcich might like Savion Williams and are trying to get him in. He was just at TCU

If it's grades and he's on the verge of flunking out, then there's not much of a chance he'll be back. Unless, of course, he aces his 2nd semester--which might be possible if he takes a bunch of easy classes and commits himself to diligent study. I don't know if it's his grades, but multiple people are indicating that's his biggest problem. If so, hello Blinn or Tyler JC, before a return back to major college ball.

The kid has too much raw talent to waste--big strong dudes that can move like him don't grow on trees. I wish he could see this and realize the enormous opportunity he has that could set him up financially for life, if he doesn't blow it.

If it's Mehringer-related, then who knows? Regardless of the underlying reasons, Shepherd has stirred up too much drama in the program already, and I'm not sure how forgiving Tom will be of all this.

JQJ is the secret card Texas has with Rakestraw. I thought Dunson was adequately fast? About hips, I know nothing.

If we get Umanmielen, fine. If not, look into 2021 or the portal for Fillinger once he wakes up to the reality of Utah.

Difficult to believe that Texas is not pushing on Bradford.

Shepherd would have to be on lock down. Encouraging he realizes he has made a mistake. He would have to convince Hand first. He has talent, its dedication and resolve that is in question. If he was passing and attending classes ......

In other recruiting news, and Texas did offer him, the recruitment of Zachary Evans is real cluster material. Look who still has him still CB to UGA:

Zachary Evans's Crystal Ball Predictions

A sports program mental health counselor, on top of the doctors, would be a good staff position to add, if we don't have one already.

I think that ship has sailed, no?

Cant verify .... but aggy says he dropped most of his classes, reaching the point where he was left with just 3 hours of transferable credits. And he may have not have even completed that one. So there was never really any option other than JUCO.

He is not coming back then, no how no way.

But on second thought, if he had just pulled up his britches and returned to class and completed the work .....

Unless Herman pulled his scholarship as he could have. It would have been a first time, I believe for Herman.

Next stop if he flunks out of Jr College is the arena league. He’s got to get it together, hit the books, get some tutoring, whatever.

He came from a bad situation -- home, school and coaching. Hopefully he finds a way to deal with all of that and mature as a human being. It wont be easy. But if he ever does, his unique physical skill set will give him the chance to do things and go places. Good luck to him.

I hope Shepherd turns it around. We might want to take a close look at our program’s academic counseling and tutoring and see how he slipped through the cracks. Ultimately, the young man has to take responsibility for himself, but I thought we had layers of monitoring and academic support to prevent this sort of situation.

I wish nothing but the best for the young man. But if he's so weak.academically why did we recruit him in the first place?

Hope springs eternal. We saw the talent and hoped he would be able to succeed academically with all of the support we provide. It didn't happen as we hoped.

A player has to put down the video game controller, get his lard *** out of bed, and go to class. Herman doesn’t have a Big Bad Bobby Duncum offering you walk the halls of Jester with a cattle prod making sure they go to class or he kicks their ***.

Shepherd will last 2-3 weeks at Butler. Boring

I think mainly he needs to apply himself. He seemed quite thoughtful and somewhat introspective in an interview, so not stupid. Maybe just lazy and spoiled?
