2020 Recruiting - Football

Hullaby.

Where do you ultimately see him playing for us?

WR, RB, LB, NB, S?

Some ideas: An every-down RB on Offense? Split him out wide? An RB who gets put in motion and runs pass patterns a lot? Another Overshown who could play S or LB on Defense?

He’s on the bigger and stronger end of the fast athlete spectrum. 6-2 205. Wherever he ultimately ends up, he has the tools to be an early special teams/punt-and-kick coverage terror. Glad we signed him.

H Back, but there was some rumblings that TO wanted him on defense.

A versatile and athletically gifted guy. I think this year was the only one he played QB.

I think Jordan can be the real deal and the LB I have been wanting

I understand Rising leaving but think he could have done better than Utah

Fillinger is from Utah and may be homesick
Well, Jordan will be an APB/WR. Lots more opportunity at Utah then here.

I do not understand Rising leaving because if he had stayed, he would have played this year.

Van Fillinger is only 17 today. I think he perceived UT as the big time and Utah as lost. Amazing what one great season for one team and a mediocre season for the other will do in term of perceptions. I think UT may have had to put a little more constant contact in with him than they did.

That play at 4+ minutes where he chased down the RB from way behind and the other side of the field was a sight for sore eyes - anticipation and CORRECT angle to the ball carrier.
10.7 in the 100M, 4.6 in the 40. Not slow.

I really like his awareness. He does not seem to be fooled.very often at all.

Lots of possibilities here. So much to work with. Here are some of my (very) early projections:

The maximize pass rush front 4: Ossai -- Coburn -- Ojomo -- Bimage
(1st team)
The maximize pass rush front 4: Dorbah -- Sweat -- Graham -- Jacoby Jones
(2nd team)

The big beasts front 4: Graham -- Coburn -- Sweat -- Ojomo
(1st team)
The big beasts front 4: Bimage -- Carson -- Christmas-Giles -- Jacoby Jones
(2nd team)

The pin your ears back and don't worry about the run at all front 4:
Ossai -- Ojomo -- Bimage -- Dorbah

Don't kid yourselves, we don't have many DEs on our roster.
Ojomo - DT/NG
Coburn - DT/NG
Graham - DT
J Jones - DE
Bimage - DE
MPagi - DE
D Carson - DT
Cummins - DE
Sweat - DT

Broughton - DT

We are actually pretty stacked at DT almost 3 deep, but DE we have 2 guys with experience and 2 guys who have never seen the field. It's possible to move Ossai to DE but he is our best linebacker.

What we need is Alfred Collins and hope he is as good as advertised, because he would likely be an instant starter. Our only other hope is one of our younger linebackers steps up in a big way and allows us to move Ossai to WDE.

-- but reports note he played WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba really well last weekend in the semifinal game. Against Allen the week before, Smith-Njigba went nuts with 6 TDs. But Duncanville/Rakestraw held him to just 37 yards. All of which makes it seem more like a full offer
Some of y'all probably watch Duncanville, what say ye?

If he can shut down JSN, Texas needs to evaluate him a little bit more thoroughly.

In the highlights of that game, I wasn't even sure if JSN dressed out. He disappeared. We really need to look at this guy.

Another 2020 CB we are pursuing -- high 4-star from Kansas City
Chris Ash and our place-holder LB coach Jerimiah George are following him with George taking the lead. If he can pull this one off, they say he might get the full-time job

I didn't watch the film, but the Dallas Morning News reported JSN drew several pass interference calls. Hey, better to grab a receiver than let him run free for a touchdown. (Especially if you are OU willing to give up 15 yards or half the distance to the goal and then the ref decides to "let 'em play.")

Maybe so because those calls generally do not show up in highlight reels.

Sucks that Cam didn't want to compete. Plus I'm ok losing guys who might not want to compete and end up transferring in year or two anyway.
Its not that Rising didn't want to compete.... He just saw the writing on the wall. Herman is in love with Sam and his heart and wasn't going to open up the QB position for competition; and Rising knew he didn't have a chance no matter what he did.
How do I come to that conclusion ? Whenever the media commented on the QB position they insinuated that Sam was the man, and Herman NEVER corrected them by saying the QB job was up for debate.

Sooo, you are not happy with Sam? I do not see the your point, unless you are just continuing ragging on TH.

By the way, this is interim Coach George (from his NFL days) -- never skipped neck day

They say he won district in the 4x1 and 4x2, and the 200m in the first track meet of his life. However, a time-verified shuttle time (4.47 from The Opening) is not that special

Left -- he is listed at 6'1, 170 (which looks like it might be a tad generous)

Here is IT/Wells updates on 3 players everyone wants to know about, plus a couple

Alfred Collins ... not signing during the early period was surprising, despite his insistence on that timeline since around September. It's still a Texas-Baylor battle with OU watching intently on the sidelines. He's taken officials to both schools, so who gets him on campus next might be your silent leader. He's worth the wait, and as long as Oscar Giles sticks around, UT will always have a good shot here.

Kelvontay Dixon Just like his brother two years ago, he'll wait until NSD2 to ink with his future program. It's about winning state now and always has been at Carthage since Scott Surratt took over 13 years ago. Kelvontay has slowly separated himself from just being "Keaontay's little brother," to "pretty damn good" in his own right. His game-winning TD catch vs Lampasas last week was just another example of his big-play ability. I'm as confident in UT's chances here as I was two months ago when it was apparent the Horns were pushing. The fact he hasn't publicly committed might put off some, but you're talking about a kid that goes by the beat of his own drum. While Keaontay is the serious one, Moochie is the laid-back dude who always has a smile. Right now, I'd bet Texas. I wonder if that scares off other schools.

Princely Umanmielen ... could be a destructive college defensive lineman. He's got the size (6-foot-4, 250), ability to stuff the run and get pressure from the inside, and he's really good at trolling other schools. He would also be my pick for first to enter the portal, so there's that. This guy wants to play in a four-down set, and now he'll get his wish if he picks Texas. Not sure who the leader is right now, but staying close to home might be for the best.

Jahmyr Gibbs ... 5-foot-11, 190-pound back on the UT radar, Gibbs didn't sign with Georgia Tech this week. I'm told he wants to look around and that his interest in Texas is real. I believe he has one OV not accounted for, so he could use that. He's indicated to the staff he'd come to Austin on his dime next month. We're watching this one.

Jaylan Ford set up his Texas OV for Jan. It'll be his first visit to Austin. UT sent two staffers to see him in the last two weeks, so flipping the Utah pledge this late tells you how he feels about the school. A true inside linebacker, the Horns still could use another LB in this class.

TCU thinks they will be able to steal Johnston

Paging Quentin Johnston, please pick up an orange courtesy phone

The excess payments totaled nearly $20,000 over a four-year span. More than 20 players from those three teams competed while ineligible as a result.

Seeing "the writing on the wall" is quitting. Cam could not beat out Buechele, which is no small shame. Rising had the chance, but could not produce. To be #1 on the field, a player has to be #1 in practice.

Really.

"Hello, Quentin? These are the fools that duped you into signing. You have a hardship appeal if you transfer now. Get your NLI release now."

You can’t beat out anyone if you’re never given the chance. He ain’t the first kid that wound up with a coach who plays favorites and won’t be the last.

I liked the kidvand didn’t want him to leave, but when he did, I had hoped it would be Washington or USC.

If that is Ja'Quinden 6'2" 220 lbs., I will give him 170 lbs. in a flash.

More importantly, this guy is fast, understands covering a receiver and defensive positioning, tackles head on, and is not intimated by larger and stronger receivers. I say this guy may well be a star in the making. His understanding of his position is exemplary. Like Ja'Quinden, he is a lifelong Texas fan.

Where is the Texas offer?
