2020 Recruiting - Football

Joe - Who are the 2-3 LB's that you think Coach Herman was referring to that they are recruiting that didn't sign today?

I never understood LB recruiting under Orlando - it never made sense, there was no consistency and he refused to say what kind of player he wanted at these positions.
And we now sit here not yet knowing what Ash is looking for to deal with the Big 12

We technically have 10 LBs
0 seniors
4 juniors (Ossai, Mitchell)
3 sophomores (Vaughans, Adeoye)
3 freshmen (Gbenda(rs), Tillman(rs), Dorbah
The additional 3 are Brockermeyer, Hine and Jaquess
But, of course, with us and this conference, how you look at where we are with LBs requires you consider our hybrid DB/LBs. Who we scoop up now as late 2020 commits (or try to land) will allow us some insight into Ash's intent.

yeah, we only had 2 real LBs playing LBs in the traditional sense. we had Safeties playing that last "LB" spot.

It's a canary in a coal mine of sorts. A thriving program, glittering with a CLEAR upside of PROVEN coaching and results doesn't have a wholesale decommit list.

Or am I wrong?
No...you nailed it.
Alot of these guys were just chasing the flash and potential timing of UT being the next hot thing.
It would be nice to get guys who really love the school, the coaches, the players, and want to play some football for us and work hard and build something. I think we got a few of those in here now within this haul.

I think the first para graph defines the decommitments. I think the second paragraph defines the class Texas signed to the man.

IT (Ian Boyd) on Jaylan Ford --

Ford is more of a true linebacker prospect than Texas has often landed from the high school game. His training and skills revolve around playing in the box, reading flow, beating blocks, and finishing plays. He generates a lot of power easily over short distances and is good at side stepping blockers and bringing down ball carriers.

In the new 4-down defense he’d probably be best as a weakside linebacker that can stay in the box and not get sent into space by flexed out receivers.

Speaking of all this -- if we go to the 4-man front?

Ossai -- Coburn -- Sweat -- Bimage or Ojomo

Joe,

Any 40 times on Ford?

Found it

4.6 forty (same as Jerry Gray)
4.2 shuttle
35" vertical
315 bench

Lots of possibilities here. So much to work with. Here are some of my (very) early projections:

The maximize pass rush front 4: Ossai -- Coburn -- Ojomo -- Bimage
(1st team)
The maximize pass rush front 4: Dorbah -- Sweat -- Graham -- Jacoby Jones
(2nd team)

The big beasts front 4: Graham -- Coburn -- Sweat -- Ojomo
(1st team)
The big beasts front 4: Bimage -- Carson -- Christmas-Giles -- Jacoby Jones
(2nd team)

The pin your ears back and don't worry about the run at all front 4:
Ossai -- Ojomo -- Bimage -- Dorbah

LB here (6'2.5,205) - from Frisco. Apparently a flip from Utah

His midseason film

Times have changed that now we seem to be going head to head with the Utes on players. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad we flipped Ford. Just not sure how I feel about us competing head to head with Utah for top recruits. Have they moved up that much or have we moved down or is it a meet in the middle?

You do realize Utah was 1win away from the CFP; Texas, 1 loss from 6-6

Jaylan Ford mid Senior Season Highllights:

The guy understands plays, coverages and how to get to the ball carrier.
Good frame to develop. High 3 Star for sure.

I think Jordan can be the real deal and the LB I have been wanting

I understand Rising leaving but think he could have done better than Utah

Fillinger is from Utah and may be homesick

That play at 4+ minutes where he chased down the RB from way behind and the other side of the field was a sight for sore eyes - anticipation and CORRECT angle to the ball carrier.

Another possible 2020 CB Ennis Rakestraw (Duncanville)
They say we asked him not to sign early
This might be a preferred walk on situation, not certain right now -- but reports note he played WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba really well last weekend in the semifinal game. Against Allen the week before, Smith-Njigba went nuts with 6 TDs. But Duncanville/Rakestraw held him to just 37 yards. All of which makes it seem more like a full offer
Some of y'all probably watch Duncanville, what say ye?

Another possible 202o RB is Jahmyr Gibbs of Dalton, GA
He has been committed to Georgia Tech for awhile but has not signed yet
