2019 Recruiting - Football

ESPN 4-star/5-star commits as of Dec 10:

Alabama 23
Texas, ND, aggy 16
UGA, ou, Oregon 15
FSU Clemson, Michigan 14
FLA, MSU 13
LSU, Auburn 12
tOSU, PSU 11
Tenn 10
South Carolina, Piglet, USC, Wash, OleMiss 9
Alabama has 23 now I understand that kids are pressured and they feel like they must play for the top team but when will they ever see playing time not until their Junior and senior years. might as well go to another team so they can play earlier

OVs this weekend are QB Roschon Johnson, LB De'Gabriel Floyd and WR Jordan Whittington. Whittington is still in the playoffs.

As far as I can tell, we did not offer any of JUCO OL Jay Williams, OL grad transfer Tommy Kennedy or DT Antoine Whitner (IMG Academy) this weekend. Supposedly the reason may be bc Herman did not get to meet with them face-to-face, which he does before we offer. So it could still happen for one or more of them. We will see

Sounds like we will not be offering Tommy Kennedy or Jay Williams for now

Caleb Johnson supposed to be deciding shortly, maybe even this weekend or next week. His final 4 are Colorado, Oregon, Pigpen and Texas. We need him, IMO

Johnson pushed back his announce date to allow him to visit Colorado, who just hired Mel Tucker, the former Georgia defensive coordinator

There are some rumors floating around out there about a de-commit coming from WR Marcus Washington but he shut that down pretty quick

Texas has a history of great DT’s. Why can’t Tom get them now?

Texas is doing pretty well with DTs right now. Just 1 cycle ago we signed the top 2 Dts in the State. There wasn't a single 1 Technique DT in the state worth offering.

If you haven't been following recruiting Peter Mpengi has grown in to a DT and will likely be a damn good one judging by the fact that at 280 lbs he is still cat quick.

As was already pointed out Texas has had a few DTs that came to Texas as something other than at DT, we have had RBs spin down DE spin down TE Spin Down. You name it.

Jimmy Johnson at Miami was a master at bringing in a Safety and turning him into an All American Lb, or LB and turning him into an All American DE and a DE and turning him into an All American DT.

Jake on Bru --

Well, he actually direct messaged me when both of us were down to Texas and USC. We kind of shared our thoughts. He asked me which school I was leaning towards, and I told him Texas. He told me he was leaning USC. We were going to do a joint commitment video, but that’s why we didn’t end up doing it.I saw him on his official visit for the Texas-USC game, and I think it all changed there. I have a feeling he might be leaning Texas at this point.

One week till early signing. I love this new deal. Something to look forward between the last game and the bowl game. Also relieves some of the angst on waiting for the traditional February date and worrying about top recruits getting swayed by competitors.
True that some 'cruits want to stretch things out and continue drawing as much attention as possible, but many are clearly over the pressure and want to get it done.
