2019 Recruiting - Football

One thing I've noticed is that Rivals seems to be stingy giving out their stars. They have Powell as a 3-star but they rated Marcus as 4-star. I don't know if that means anything. We are dead-even with Aggy on star average at 3.6.

Is it telling that we aren't pulling in any top DL? Just asking.

We did get two top 250 guys last year, but no top 100.

This year, so far, we're not close. We've missed out on all the top DL guys from Texas.

Maybe it's Giles. Maybe our defense doesn't highlight DL. Maybe it's just an off year?

Last year we got the top two defensive tackles in Texas. How many tackles play at one time in our defense?

The Stars at Night are Big and Bright ... !!!

Remember when Aggy said we had no receivers or qb’s? Or safeties and cb’s? I guess the new mantra is OL and DL, but I’m bullish on OL with coach hand.

When it comes to the oline, I'm beginning to feel a little better about our options. The Hookfin (best name ever) kid looks like a project that will pay huge dividends after his Red-Shirt year.

Also standing out is that we finally redshirting guys now. Seems like forever since we have had this luxury. But now we have both a winning team on the field and developing talent in waiting.

The guys playing early are, generally, the ones furthest from the ball. The shirts are the ones closer. DBs/WRs and maybe RBs arrive more ready to play. Meanwhile, we are finally stacking up some quality with the OLs, DLs, TEs, QBs and some of the LBs. On the OL, from what Ive read, we are happy with all of the 2017s (i.e., no stand out busts, accepting that a couple of them we knew needed 2 years minimum). Rounding it all out are tatrgeted JUCOs/grad transfers. On the latter, we were ready to go when the new rules hit and took advantage. It's almost like we suddenly know what we are doing, have a plan and are sticking to the plan. Go figure.

Among the visitors for WVU --

Noah Cain - coming to our game over LSU v. Bama. Cain's plan has been to visit LSU in Dec, just the early signing period. However, that may be up in the air if Emery commits to LSU, pushing Cain elsewhere.
Elijah Higgins
Brennon Scott
(maybe)
Jaylon Jones (maybe)
Isaiah Hookfin (6'5, 270 from Sugarland Dulles) - met Herb Hand just 10 days ago and suddenly he visits. He has a good frame plus good feet (played soccer). Two years with our current S&C coach + Herb Hand and you probably got something.
