2019 Recruiting - Football

WR Elijah Higgins called his OV "great" and even "momentum shifting" and he says he thinks he knows where he is going to go.
But the Texas 247 gurus still think its Stanford.

Our plan B appears to be Kennedy Lewis (6'3, 195) and ex of TCU who will announce shortly, possibly this week

When you consider he did the same thing to Mater Del only a blind guy is not impressed. This kid is the real deal, along the same lines as Adrian Peterson only faster. He comes to Texas, he will be on loan for 3 years before he is off to the NFL where he will be a top 5 NFL draft pick.
I agree that this guy is all that, but with one minor quibble. “Faster than Adrian Peterson” is doubtful to me and would have to be shown to me.

Peterson carries 217 lbs to a 4.38 at the combine and had run a 10.26 wind legal 100m at a district meet in Palestine. Jamaal only ran faster than that after a couple of years training track at UT.

Hookfin, BC and Johnson. Looks like Hoofkin has OT size and length (82" wingspan)
Getting some CBs to Texas on the heels of visit and offer

4-star DB Marcus Banks was a surprise visitor to Texas on Saturday

Banks de-committed from LSU three weeks ago

We are supposed to be taking two CBs this cycle and already have 2 (Kenyatta Watson and Marques Caldwell)
But Watson may be taking some visits. We still love Watson and think he's better than anyone in-state this year. So we will see.

Also, Peyton Powell can also play DB but is supposed to start out on offense.

Lastly, see Watson reply here

I read this stat in an article and pulled it bc I thought it was somewhat amazing --

Alabama under Saban has had 48.3% of its 5-star recruits drafted in the 1st round by NFL teams

The rest of college football has had just 17%

Kind of interesting .....

"Back in April, Drayton told me, “yeah, we’re gonna get Cain. I really want his teammate, Sanders. He (Sanders) is the best back in the country.” He also told me the two teammates appreciated the direct approach Drayton takes in their recruitment. This was the same time he told me Wilson was going to Ohio State.

Obviously, a lot of time has passed since April, so I don’t know where Dayton’s confidence is today. Taking Brown may have affected the outlook. I just know he was very matter of fact about getting Cain in April."

I think it was from someone at TFB

Cain is supposed to be down to us, LSU, and Penn State

Bru McCoy's mom --

"We feel Texas offers everything we are looking for. Great education, great football team, great staff, great city and great tradition. It’s the total package.... With the process coming to an end, Bru is extremely high on Texas. We are not worried about him going out-of-state. I feel like it’s really important to experience different places.... We want to get back to Austin to make sure Bru is comfortable and has all his questions answered.... The coaching staff is continuing to build a strong relationship with Bru and with my husband and I. Coach Mehringer was out two weeks ago to watch Bru play and reiterated how important he is to Texas. It really meant a lot to see him. We love Tom Herman’s energy and the relationships he builds with the boys.”

He OVd to Austin for the USC game in Sept. We are trying to get him back for one more visit, with Herman becoming more directly involved lately. Getting him back for that extra visit seems pretty important atm. Besides us and USC, Washington and ou are also involved.

Holland thinks we lead for JUCO ILB Caleb Johnson.
He thinks Johnson's Arkansas visit has been overhyped.
Oregon is also a strong possibility, but they already have several LBs committed.
He should announce before the end of Nov and will have 3 years of eligibility.

He + De’Gabriel Floyd, also an EE, could be instant impact players on next year's D

Joe Fan, just curious, would Texas take three RBs: Brown, Sanders & Cain, if all three decided on Texas?

Well, once there were 3 named Worster, Koy, Bertleson.....remember the wishbone! Probably not going to happen in this era!

Well, once there were 3 named Worster, Koy, Bertleson..

There weren't just three, but back then DKR got 50 scholarships a year, plus academic scholarships didn't count (see QB Andy White), AND a total of 150 on scholarship. DKR recruited more that he knew wouldn't play than he did players, primarily to keep from seeing them in a different colored jersey on Saturday.

DE Myron Warren de-committed from TCU. We offered not long ago. And some chatter that TCU might be about to lose one more commitment as well

DE Myron Warren (from Many, LA) will visit Texas on 11/17 for Iowa State, the final home game. He is the #24 ranked player in LA.
He visited LSU last weekend, but they have not yet offered

Joe Fan, just curious, would Texas take three RBs: Brown, Sanders & Cain, if all three decided on Texas?

I think there is a better chance LSU lands a big 3 RB class than us
Emery + Sanders + Cain = quite the haul, although not quite three 5-stars as Cain is only a very high 4-star. But its highly unlikely, not to mention they already have a high 4-star RB in Tyrion Davis.

“It went really good. Better than I expected really. I can definitely see the potential in the offensive line, and that was my biggest question with Texas. After this weekend, I feel like they answered all of my questions.”

“She hasn’t stopped talking about it She definitely enjoyed having a lot of one-on-one time with Coach (Tom) Herman. She was really impressed by that and all of the things that Texas provides. My dad was impressed, too. Like me, he had questions about the offensive line, but we saw enough to believe in the future there.”

“That one on one conversation with Coach Drayton was something. He’s probably one of the only coaches recruiting me who sees small things in my game and tells me to work on them. Just my time with him was the biggest highlight.”

“The most important thing is trust. Being up front and honest is important. The biggest thing for me is being comfortable there and trusting the coaching staff.”

OL Isaiah Hoofkin (Ft Bend Dulles) cancelled his OV Arizona State for this weekend. Sounds like we are his only OV for now

“I learned a lot of information and new things that I haven’t seen anywhere else. They have so much to offer. Coach Hand came to me after a tough game and presented the surprise to me."

"I enjoyed the game so much. The culture and fan base there is so strong, and the whole stadium was full.”

“My main plan is to decide in December. If things I’m interested in keep coming, I’ll postpone that decision until February.”

Wells says that if we do land McCoy he will start out at WR

Also, he thinks we have 7-8 spots left.
We have 20 now. My prediction was 27-29, so this would be right in there

I'm good with taking 7 or 8 as long as we aren't reaching. if they are guys we know will help the program then take them, if not then save the spot for someone in 2020.
