2019 Recruiting - Football

Joe... The state of Georgia had more 5 stars last year as well. What explains the 40 4 star plus. Can see an exceptional year with a few more 5 stars, but the 4 star numbers don't seem to make statistical sense. Unless, as I suggested SEC bias, blind or paid off reviewers or a true upgrade in HS football in Ga.

Any thoughts?

Playoff contenders
Yeah that's us, if we can land Sopsher and another stud o-lineman especially a center. I am talking about 2020,21,22 etc....
1) We will have great team speed offense and defense

2) We will have that racehorse QB in R Johnson and quality depth
3) Stud Defense will be strong and experienced
4) probably better field goal kicking; punter not so much but that's expected. Jury will out.
5) will need wins this season ( I say we get ten this season because of o-line being better) and coaching stability.
6) o-line will be much better than last season
7) Offensive stars in Eagles, Evans, Houston, Zachary and Demas:thumbup:

Well you know I am hoping that Orlando likes it here after all he is rolling in the pesos. But should we lose him we will be able to get the best of the best considering our talent.

If you look nationally at all the stud DCs out there, I'd guess that Orlando is ranked about 4th or 5th. Couple that with the fact that most schools are trending with hiring Offensive Coordinators instead of defense. it bodes well for Texas to keep him a lot longer than most of us would have guessed. Also don't forget that he is paid on a level that makes it tough for the lower ranked teams to meet his asking price.

When he does become a HC, it will be to a major P5 program that can afford him.

aggy has always thought this way
But those darn facts keep getting in the way

Holland and Roach have both put in CBs to Texas for LB Maninoa Tufono, the #6 ranked ILB nationally per the 247Comp
Herman and Co seem determined that we end up with a great LB class this season. We have two in now, Holland thinks 2 more, maybe 3. I was thinking 5 LBs all along but maybe hybrid guys like Owens (who is a safety built like a LB) are the best fit for this conference

Texas would be undefeated in any 7-on-7 league against any team from the $EC. aggy has forgotten how hard it is to chase 5 wide receivers play after play.

This is an ATH/WR we might offer. McKel Broussard (6'0,182) from Sherman Oaks, CA. He camped with us and supposedly turned some heads. Here is Rivals write up on him after the Rivals 5-star Challenge camp --
McKel Broussard came in somewhat under the radar as a recruit and held his own. He has a 5.5 Rivals rating and offers from Rice and FAU, but he outplayed that offer list Thursday. He flashed consistent hands, he was smooth out of his breaks and he had a better performance than many would expect by looking at his offer list.

If we pull this off, Omg. Maybe it would help with the 5* DT too #DreamBig

Does seem to be pointing in our direction for Tufono
I was reading some UDub board stuff (he is a legacy recruit for them) and they seem to be coming to the same conclusion. We will see

Thanks to Jake Langi, we now have some strong Polynesian ties

Recent campus visitor -- potential 2-sport
He will be back for the USC game in September, then OV to Austin after his season. He wants to take all his visits, then decide in Jan.

10.34 that's blazing fast I believe. This team is already pretty fast. Jimmy Johnson built his teams on speed. Seems like a good blueprint. The faster the better. Hope we get this guy.:smokin:
Does Herman know what to do with that?

Some more on Owens from TFB --

"..... Now if you want to talk about a freak athlete in the 2019 class, enter Owens. I know Super K talked about some of these things in his post after Owens picked up the offer on Sunday. But Owens is a legit 4.4-5 guy, he ran a 100m in the 10.3 range, he broad jumped 11’2 at Texas camp. And Owens is 6’2, maybe 6’3 and someone at the Texas camp told me he probably weighs around 210-215 right now. That’s really big for a HS DB, and after he get in a college weight program I could see him putting on 15 or so pounds easily.

Owens could be the DeMarvion Overshown of the 2019 class. A bigger safety who may start his career in the defensive backfield but could likely end up sliding down to the rover/OLB position. Owens has offers from Baylor, Nebraska, and some others. He told Super K yesterday that Texas leads, and it won’t surprise me at all to see him blow up later in the process."

LB commit DeGabriel Floyd was recruiting Rian Davis but now that Davis committed to Georgia, Floyd is still working it --

“Right now it’s Mani Tufono. He and I are talking and we’re pretty high on his list. Bru McCoy is still on my list. Justin Flowe, even though he’s a 2020. He’s my young bull. And Seth Figgins. He and I talk every day at school about going to Texas.”

The players at the recent Texas camp who impressed Floyd were --

“The Cibolo 2020 DB (Jaylon Jones), real tall lanky guy who’s got good weight on him and got some pretty decent feet and hips. I’d like to see him come to Texas…

McKel Broussard (see a few posts above), I feel like he lit it up at the camp. Speed and precision through all his routes, and great hands when the ball is put within a decent radius…

Tyler Owens, man, he’s a freak. A freak athlete. A pretty big solid guy, but real atheltic with great hips. He covers like any regular corner, but he’s a safety.”

Joe, I've got a few names that pop up here and there, but I've been busy and had a hard time staying organized. Can you bring to light a short list of our best remaining '19 options at WR?

We are almost done already. We have high 4-star Jordan Whittington, high 4-star Jake Smith and 4-star Demariyon Houston in the house already. I think we take one or two more.

The Big 2 for now are Garrett Wilson or Elijah Higgins (of Austin Bowie). We will pursue them until the end. Wilson is firmly committed to tOSU, however, there is some fresh smoke around that program as of today. Did this open a crack for us? Seems unlikely based off what he said about us. But we will see. With Higgins, we are in his final 7 with Ark, Auburn, Florida, tOSU, Ole Miss, and Stanford (damn them). The perception of who his fav is keeps changing (was us, then Stanford, then Gator). So I dont know (but probably Standford). We love Bru McCoy too. He is an ATH who is probably a WR but seems destined to go to USC.

Next in the pecking order is Dylan Wright, Marcus Washington, Peyton Powell, Langston Anderson and maybe Jaylen Ellis. We have recently picked up our communications with Powell, who is another player supposed to be going to tOSU. He might be the next man up, but I am not 100% certain whether he is WR or DB.

If we take two from among Wilson, Higgins, Wright and Washington then we will have about a good a WR class as we've had in awhile.

Steve Wiltfong thinks he is going to USC

"After talking to a source with knowledge of the situation, I put in a 247Sports Crystal Ball Forecast in favor of USC for Top247 linebacker Maninoa Tufono. after talking with a source on Wednesday evening. The Honolulu (Hawaii) Punahou standout plans to announce his college decision on Aug. 6. His finalists include UCLA, Texas, LSU, Washington and the Trojans....."
--------------------------------
However ...... EJ Holland is aware of Wiltfong's CB and he is not buying it. He is sticking with his Texas pick
He says early fav Washington is out of it. That USC is the only threat to Texas here. That both programs (UT and SC) are confident right now. But Texas has Todd Orlando, Jake Langi ("strong Polynesian ties" lol), and De'Gabriel Floyd in his ear.

It looks like this battle may come down to who has the strongest line of Polynesian ties
