2019 Recruiting - Football

We are supposed to be running third behind Bama and tOSU for fellow Hawaiin Faatui Tuitele. He will OV to Austin this Fall.
Winning games this season would help

We have also not given up on DeMarvin Leal and will pursue until we can't. Word is that he and his mom are at least politely listening to us.

...Overall, we have made offers to two JUCO DLs -- Jacoby Jones and Jermaine Johnson. Johnson is the top ranked JUCO player for now and they say he is leaning towards ............ Georgia, of course. Who isnt these days?

JUDO DL Jermaine Johnson to Georgia

And two more CBs of Maninoa Tufono to USC.

We made WR Marcus Washington's (#3 overall in Missouri) top 6 back in May
He was considering tOSU and is now putting off a decision
He goes to the same HS as 2020 WR Mookie Cooper (who is a Texas lean)

There appears to be some variance among our recruiting gurus about Georgia RB Derrian Brown

Holland --
"I put in a Crystal Ball pick for four-star Buford (GA) running back Derrian Brown to land at Texas today. As I’ve been reporting, Texas is making a really strong push here. Area recruiter Jason Washington has had several productive conversations with him, and he is expected to visit for the game against USC. With Auburn exploring other options, the door is open for UT to hit a homerun on his trip and close the deal."

Sounds like we have whiffed now on both JUCO DLs we were after

This is Holland again --

"I moved my Crystal Ball pick from Texas to (ou) for junior college defensive lineman Jacoby Jones today. (ou) extended an offer last weekend and really blew him away on his visit. Right now, I feel like the Sooners are in the pole position. However, there is still time for Texas to regain momentum as Jones plans to make an official visit this fall and wait until December to pull the trigger."

Someone poke Giles to see if he is still alive

My final ten to round out this recruiting cycle is Sopsher-DT, Gbenda-LB, Owens-S,LB, Leal-DT, Brown-RB, Wilson-WR, Tufono-LB, Coker-OT, Wright-WR and another o-lineman in no particular order. Yeah that will pretty much do it and we will finish in the top three at least. So there you go. Simple..:lmao:

Here is something interesting, look at the 247 Texas top 100, but remove every player that is a WR, DB, or Athlete that projects as a WR/DB and then look at how each school is doing. Not to say that those positions aren't important, but I want to emphasize the importance of the other positions and how each school is doing.
1. Kenyon Green - A$M
2. Tyler Johnson - Texas
3. DeMarvin Leal - A$M
4. Austin Stogner - blOwU
5. Marcel Brooks - LSU
6. NaNa Osafo-Mensah - Notre Dame
7. Branson Bragg - Stanford
8. Baylor Cupp - A$M
9. EJ Ndoma-Ogar - blOwU
10. Marcus Stripling - UnDecided
11. Isiah Spiller - A$M
12. Roshon Johnson - Texas
13, Braedon Mowry - A$M
14. Javonne Shepherd - Texas
15. Grant Gunnell - Arizona
16. David Gbenda - Undecided
17. Hunter Spears - Notre Dame
18. Josh Ellison - A$M
19. Nelson Ceaser - Houston
20. Steven Parker - Tech

I will stop here and say that out of the top 40 players ranked in the current 247 Texas ranking, 20 of them are WR and DBs, 20 other position players make up the rest of the top 40. If this is the direction of Texas high school football, then it is very important for Texas to develop OOS recruiting, there just isn't enough good football players in state to support all the teams in Texas and the big programs out of state.

Out of the top 40 players (non DB & WR) here is how they break down;
A&M - 6
Texas - 3
blOwU - 2
Notre Dame - 2
LSU - 1
Stanford - 1
Tech - 1
Houston - 1
Arizona - 1
Undecided - 2

As far as I'm concerned you cannot win a national title relying on just recruiting the state of Texas, not anymore.
