Texas safety signee Tyler Owens has the potential to be special

So the 247 input of their final player rankings is a slow rollout
I think all the other recruiting services are done (see past couple pages)
But it's like 247 has one very slow person making all the changes to their database
Anyway, the rumor is Whittington and Smith got big jumps
But it's not official yet
If nothing else, it will drive aggy crazy

Hot off the presses, so we are now #5 in 247 team rankings

And Jordan Whittington did get a 5th star in the Composite
He is now #34 in the country overall
IMO well deserved

Jake also got a higher ranking. He is now #49 overall
Tyler Johnson is #58 overall

So our individual top 3 are now --
1. Jordan
2. Jake
3. Tyler

-----------------
Also, Myron Warren got a big bump to #169 overall (up 278 spots). Warren is now a Composite 4-star
And David Gbenda rose to #193 (up 44 spots)

What is the difference between 247s composite ranking and top 247 ranking. Team rankings seem to be done from the composite ranking.

247 does its own rankings (like the recent Tyler Owens 5th star, for example)
But then they do a separate "Composite" ranking combining their own rankings with all the other services too

"The 247Sports Composite Rating is a proprietary algorithm that compiles prospect "rankings" and "ratings" listed in the public domain by the major media recruiting services. It converts average industry ranks and ratings into a linear composite index capping at 1.0000, which indicates a consensus No. 1 prospect across all services.

The 247Sports Composite Rating is the industry's most comprehensive and unbiased prospect ranking and is also used to generate 247Sports Team Recruiting Rankings.

All major media services share an equal percentage in the 247Sports Composite Rating.

The composite index equally weights this percentage among the services that participate in a ranking for that specific prospect.

A composite strength meter, indicated by red bars, illustrates the total number of industry services that have ranked the prospect. A full strength meter indicates the prospect has been ranked by all industry services participating in the composite.

All industry services have a different philosophy on number of "stars" distributed with each class. The 247Sports Composite Rating assigns stars based on an approximate average distribution of stars from the industry.

247Sports Ranking Contribution

247Sports produces ratings and rankings that contribute to the 247Sports Composite. These ratings can also be viewed along side the 247Sports Composite for a comparison.

247Sports has one of the industry’s largest and most recognized national recruiting staffs. Led by industry veterans Barton Simmons and Jerry Meyer (basketball), 247Sports employs a staff of more than 50 reporters, analysts and evaluators that rank the nation’s elite high school football and basketball recruits from multiple class years....."

You don't have to drive to make aggy crazy - a nine-iron will do the job quite nicely.:smile1:

After the updates, it looks like we have the same total number of combined 4- and 5-stars as aggy, but we have fewer 3-stars. Their team ranking is still higher because the have more recruits than we do but our avg player raking is higher. And if JShepherd does flip to aggy on NSD2 as many expect then our avg player ranking will actually rise.

All of this after them telling us for the last year that Fisher was "curb-stomping" Herman in recruiting, due to the "new coach bump" and so forth. Not to mention we were coming off a 7-6 season.

If this latest 247 team ranking holds, then only 3 programs in the country will have managed back-to-back Top 5 Recruiting Classes:

•Alabama
•Georgia (see Sugar Bowl)
•Texas

Texas players in the new 247 rankings --

24. TOwens
59. JWhitt
72. DFloyd
77. Jake
87. Tyler Johnson
169. Warren
192. Adimora
193. Gbenda
208. Liebrock
237. Hookfin

That dude lays the wood. I could see him as a LB with a few more lbs

Again, that dude lays the wood. I can’t think of a recruit that hit harder. I think it was Michael Williams that had the most impressive tape as far as hitting prior to Owens. ******* the future looks bright. Nothing more exciting than watching head hunters, and we have a few with Foster, Overshown, and Adeoye (sp?).

I have no idea about his coachability in the NFL. I know he loved to hit people, and if Rick McIvor, Mike Luck, and Jeff walked into a bar, you should look for the exit or seek cover.

Jeff died a couple of years back of a heart attack at about 50 years old. There's an Arkansas return man that certainly hasn't forgotten him.

Also sort of noticeable that while ou has several offensive players in the final Top 247 rankings, they have no defensive players.
Texas has 5 defensive players in the Top 247.
