2019 Recruiting - Football

Agree totally. I'm sick and tired of seeing HS players from the Metroplex head across the Red River to Zero U. There are plenty of very talented HS players in the DFW area and the smaller cities in North Texas, and THE University of Texas should be getting first choice.
Me two. They have out promoted UT in North Texas for years and are the darlings of local sports talk radio and the Sooner Morning News. A ton of high school kids get recruited by OU in an attempt to raise the academic standings in Norman and then come home after graduation as as Okies for life. The monetary incentives for Texas high school students to go to OU is pretty good and many of these students cannot get into Texas.

The OU graduates from the state of OK need work and move to DFW after graduation. They sing the songs of praise for their school and some of them are in local TV and radio. They have no problem keeping OU in the headlines. UT seems to just sit back and let OU outstage them. The man on the street thinks that you go to A&M for academics and to OU for athletics. Walk into Dicks or any other sporting goods store and the OU **** is all over, front and center. Much of the population is from out of state and they could care less about anything Texas. Texas pride is hard to find.

UT needs to make a little more noise in North Texas.

What's the story here? Sorry If I missed a thread?

It's still a rumor as far as I know. The story is that the father of a lower rated recruit contacted the FWK about his services. FWK said he wanted $8K for a PWO spot at Texas. FWK also claimed he already has one player at Texas and two at aggy (via PWO he obtained). The father took a screenshot and sent it on on the twitter. There is probably more to it than this, but that's what I saw. The FWK did not have the best weekend.

btw, the tweeter here (MillerL) is aggy

During all the hoopla that^ caused, diggers found a criminal charge against him for hitting his gf over the head with an unknown object, within the last year

Perhaps I'm a bit naive about how things are done behind the scenes, but I'd prefer we not deal with these street agents / quasi-street agents, or whatever you want to call them. Maybe we miss out on some recruits from time-to-time, but I smell a whole lot of stink (and future trouble) dealing with this sort of character...

I am too far removed to know anything, but it appears that college football is catching college basketball with the 7 v 7 tournaments and all these "expert" trainers. So it seems the choice in the near future or possibly now is to accept the situation or stop playing D1 sports.

That may be right, but the reports above make it sound like an 'agent' of sorts is getting paid to place players at schools. Don't know if the reports above are accurate, but if so ...

This is the guy that Shepard works with, correct?

aggy has that type of relation with a guy named Ro Simon who is the owner of Fast Houston 7v7. He is sponsored by Adidas, which has deep financial ties with aggy. He is, more or less, compensated to steer kids to Addidas-connected schools. He went from being an unknown training overweight housewives to a Fast 7v7 Addidas coach. Legend has it that he was the first person Jimbo Fisher visited as head coach of aggy.

The FWK is not quite to this level yet but it sounds like he wants to be, and he is likewise steering kids to aggy.

FWIW, Texas is connected to Nike, not Addidas.

Dam it seems college football and basketball are more or less the same. Probably always has been, but it was nice thinking that they were not.

Oregon had a guy like this a few years ago. Never ends well

TFB has some info on Proctor

He says Hand sees him as a plug-and-play at OG, with the departures of Vahe and Rodriguez. Proctor is, of course, looking for immediate PT.

“[Immediate playing time] does impact my decision. A lot of schools blow smoke. I don’t want to go somewhere that wants me, I want to go somewhere that needs me.”

He is also supposed to visit tOSU and FSU, decision in March.

We now have 6 DBs on the roster that had 5 stars from at least one of the recruiting services -- Foster, Sterns, Cook, Green, Overshown and Owens. That is a lot of 5-star DBs for Herman/Naviar/Washington in just 2 years.
Plus, we still have BJones, who was a very high 4-star.
DBU?

Why is Javonne Shepherd on this list? Did he commit to us and I didn’t know it?

He has been verbally committed to us since July 2018
(while maybe not effectively committed)
But I dont see that it matters with regard to the point made by the spreadsheet
