2019 Recruiting - Football

If missing out on Cain and Sanders means getting Evans next year I can live with that....

That recruitment should get wild. I imagine all sorts of things coming at him and his family.

If you want someone to blame, blame aggy for letting the SEC march in

Mart is feeling it

The Athletic says McCoy will be signing today but privately.

He will not reveal his decision until All-American Bowl which is Jan 5 (Sat) on NBC. This is the game in San Antonio and it will have lotsa of the top recruits from this season (18 five-star players)

He has already been accepted by both Texas and USC.

Joe - what does your gut tell you on his choice.

I think everyone should have a good feel how all of this is going to finish in February. There are concerns about Texas' performance in this round. Herman says he recruited for need and got who he really wanted. Who knows and what else could he say?

IMHO Texas should be concerned about falling behind its conference rival (ou) and another Power 5 school in its own state. Personally, the only way aggy has the 3rd best class in the country is due to the $EC bump. ou has a better class than aggy. This will correct itself when Fisher fails to win the $EC West ever; however getting out recruited by ou more often than not is getting old and showing up on the field.

How much of OU's success can we attribute to entrance standards to the university?
And possible issues with character...
I’m not trying to be a jerk, and most Sooner players are of high character...
But it does seem character issues have plagued them ( and FLA) for the 30 years of my experience.
Im not talking about a little weed or DWI...Dusty Dvorckec put his roommate in ICU... and OU got him a medical redshirt for alcoholism- or Mixons knock out punch to a girl that was overlooked.
Shocking.
Herman’s press conference was riddled with talking about the recruits character.

We would be #3 on this list, if in the SEC, with 35 ESPN 300s

People wonder why I keep saying that if a new Conference was formed by Texas and blOwU, I think Arkansas would join if the money was right. They have nothing to lose, they can't recruit for crap in the SEC and it's been over 20 years since their last conference title. Joining the SEC has been a disaster for them, just as it will prove to be for the aggsy.

The ratings are just an indication, not a guarantee. While I would prefer to have the highest ranked class full of 4 & 5 stars, I really believe that outside of the few “sure bets” every year, how they pan out will come down to these factors:

A) Obviously talent.

B) Potential. Projecting how any recruit will perform is an inexact science. Some reach 90% of their physical potential in high school. Perhaps Johnathan Gray is an example of this. Some blossom in college. Perhaps D’Onta Foreman fits into this category.

C) Development in college. I believe that a talented staff can probably do more with a 3.5 star class than a mediocre staff can do with a 4.0 star class.

D) Attitude/Fit/Chemistry - It’s almost impossible to handicap this aspect of recruiting, at least for the casual fan. Perrilloux is probably the prototypical example. Shepard might be as well. Then there’s 2 star (or was it 3) Colt McCoy.

I think the class so far is pretty good. It will be a year or two before we really know how good, or not so good. If Herman and his staff are as good as we hope, our class will be just fine.

I have watched film on all the top receivers in Texas and none of them are as good as Jake Smith. Yet couple of them are considered 5star guys. If I had to chose between any receiver in Texas and Jake Smith, I'm taking Smith every time.

I have really stopped putting so much emphasis on recruiting rankings. Besides the fact that it's all opinion, there is so much politics involved and back room BS.

I can't remember the recruit who came out a few years ago and said that he didn't want to commit early because he was told that if he did he would drop in the rankings.

It sure seems like we have been saying this for years. Always waiting for the future. I want to dominate now! OK, Cool. Hook 'Em!

Not to burst your bubble, but every recruiting class is a wait and see. We could swap classes with Bama and we would still say you have to wait a couple years. Once in a while you get a player that is a freshmen phenom but the rest are a wait and see.

Bama continues to excel in mighty SEC simply because they keep loading up on many 4-5 stars so the teams depth really never hits a low spot. 5 and 4 star players improve the quality of play all around them by making others better which results in very few weak spots. That will continue until others i.e. Geo, OU, Texas, Fla, OHSt, etc have repeat years of high recruiting success.....but as someone said, much of star ranking is opinionated. It's flawed! A surer ranking would happen if the standard of competition was the same. But it's not....!

Based on video of the Miss rb that is hoping for offer from Northwestern, Texas really should look and this kid. He looked pretty good from here but why would so many teams overlook him.....kinda like Welker, Brees etc

Shocked would be mild if Hookfin chooses Baylor after the family 'discovered' issues with BU....I'm expecting he will be wearing the horns.
