we might not totally agree. but i meant more game day depth than roster depth. herman doesn't like o play a lot of OL. We'd have, what, 8 solid guys we can throw out there?
Anderson/Cosmi/Vahe/Grandy/Shack/Ker/Hud/Urquidez

I like that group if Anderson commits. Not ideal yet, but enough to be solid without using any freshman.
 
Nelson rumors have been out there for a while. Makes no sense to me. I guess he would be a graduate transfer since he redshirted.
 
I'm wondering if anyone has any insight on the Chris Nelson rumors??

So landing Anderson now allows for this scenario^
Cosmi to RT and Kerstetter to C (where he will probably be terrific)
Even though the total roster count for OLs is still somewhat light, we now have options at OG and even some depth -- which is something we have not had in a long time
I would not mind seeing Grandy and Hudson earn the OG spots
We will see

That is reminiscent of the intramural team that Everett Gay put together of him, William Harris, Stephen Braggs, Tony Jones, et al. They won the University Intramural Basketball Championship, then challenged Kaiser Bob to a game against his varsity. Weltlich refused and forbid his players to accept the challenge. Sneaking off to Gregory Gym, the varsity kept it close, losing by only 40-50 points to Everett and friends.

The late ‘70s version of this team was called the “Jocks” and featured among others Kenneth Sims, Bobby Johnson and Lawrence Sampleton. They pretty much cruised until the finals where they met a fraternity team (sorry don’t remember who) and won a competitive if not close game.
The crowd for that game at what was the Gregory Annex gym probably rivaled some of Kaiser Bob’s if not in size than in noise. Well, probably in size too.

I saw UT Mens Team play some games in Gregory prior to the FEC. (Jim Krivacs I think?). Was kind of hot in there but the atmosphere was more fun.

Me and some of my dorm buddies used to sit on the west baseline for that last season in Gregory (Abe’s first). The atmosphere was awesome but you had to pay attention when Gary Goodner shot free throws.

Abe used to practice there too. Which you could watch. The way he yelled at the players was better than going to a comedy club.

We had a forward named Tyrone Branyon who had an unusual walk. He could barely jump off the ground. Abe showed no mercy. I would get banned if I wrote in here the different things Abe yelled at him.

Abe’s practices were gold. As for Abe’s sharp tongue, I remember Jan Handley being a particular target one afternoon. It was reminiscent of some of the tender things my offensive line coach would direct my way.

That’s Tyrone on the right watching Sidney Moncrief dunk over him. From left to right on the bench is Mike Murphy, Keith Stevens, (I think) Phillip Stroud and John Danks.
The story back then was Abe signed Tyrone out of a California JC without ever seeing him in person and Abe thought Tyrone was black until the day he showed up on campus.
This is, of course complete heresay but that was the story.

P.S. seems we have strayed a bit from the OP. If you look up the term “mission creep” it will refer to this post.

I recall Stroud went nuts against USC. But I dont rmbr him after having as good a game again.
Would have been fun to see Krivacs coming off screens with a 3-point line
But Johnny Moore was best in those days, IMO

Krivacs was a transfer from Auburn although he prepped in Indiana. But we had another transfer (NC State) named Ken Montgomery who could flat-out shoot also. I’m not sure if he and Krivacs ever saw the court together but his guy would have flourished with a three point line. They both played during my time on campus.

Saw this elsewhere and I'm confused, which happens a lot these days. Since Spring Drills have not started, how are they "getting snaps?"

Abe was a one of a kind with a wit that was so sharp he could slice and dice anyone so fast that they didn't even know they had been dissected till it was over...remember one instance where he had a real hot-shot recruit (don't remember his name) that he put into his first collegiate game (this kid was a scoring machine in high-school and came to UT with a big scoring reputation)...at the end of the game the kid had scored 1 point on a free throw...that was all after several minutes of playing time...after the game Abe went over to him and said "congratulations son...you just scored 1 more point than a dead man!.

Abe was something very special...much like DKR in his ability to verbally paint a very unique perspective in very few words...but always left a lasting impression.

“I’ll tell you a guy that’s had a really good offseason is Tristian Houston." Said he had good bowl practices and a good offseason.
