2018 Recruiting - WBB

With Shae Routt and Sedona committed for 2018, the numbers all of a sudden get tight. I was assuming we'd sign 4 recruits for this class (based on seniors Atkins, Foman, McCarty, and Audrey-Ann), but I guess there is a chance for a 5-member class if we take a smaller than expected 2017 class, or any unforeseen attrition.

Believe we have offers out to Charli Collier, NaLyssa Smith, Christyn Williams, and Lolo Davenport. There could also be offers out to Queen Egbo, Madison Williams and Tatum Veitenheimer. Don't believe we are recruiting Zarielle Green of Duncanville.

Texas has also offered Honesty Scott-Grayson and made her top 14.

If Texas reels in Megan Walker, could give UT an 'in' with another 2018 elite post, Shakira Austin from Virginia.

Fantastic news about Sedona. As we wait to hear about Megan, Moooooo, do you think we have a chance with Rellah Booth? (I know she's a '17 player.)

I still think we need to sign Tatum in 2018. As with all of the PGs signed by Coach Aston, they can play at least two positions.

I think we made Boothe's final four, iirc. The numbers are filling up but with each commitment, that changes the need for filling a particular spot. Recruits receiving an offer should, and most likely do, know that the situation is fluid and changes with each commitment received by the school.

I am excited about the direction our recruiting is going but, as with anyone, I have my favorites and Tatum and Sedona are two that I feel we really need. One down, one to go. Seeing that post confirming Sedona's commitment once more brings a huge grin to my face. It's a great way to start the day.

I got intrigued by Moooooo's list of players that had or probably had offers from Texas and wondered which players among those listed in the top 100 in the rankings listed Texas as a school of interest.

I am sure that there are others that Texas is recruiting but from ESPN’s list of top 2018 players (prospectsnation has gone to $$ to access that info):

Players listing schools that have Texas in their list:

Christyn Williams 5-11 Guard Overall # 2 Position # 1
Little Rock, AR Central Arkansas Christian School

NaLyssa Smith 6-2 Forward Overall # 4 Position # 1
Converse, TX East Central High School

Shakira Austin 6-5 Post Overall # 5 Position # 2
Fredericksburg, VA Colonial Forge High School

Charli Collier 6-4 Forward Overall # 7 Position # 2
Crosby, TX Barbers Hill High

Honesty Scott-Grayson 5-10 Point Guard Overall #11 Position # 3
Fairfax, VA Paul VI High School

Texas has expressed interest in the following:

Queen Egbo 6-2Post Overall # 21 Position # 4 from Travis HS in Houston, TX., she does not list any schools at ESPN.

Tatum Veitenheimer, 5-7 PG from Windhorst, Texas, is listed by Prospectsnation as the overall # 24 & position # 8.

Verbals:
Sedona Prince 6-7 Post Overall # 9 Position # 3 by ESPN.
Liberty Hill, TX Liberty Hill High

Shae Routt, 6-2 Wing from Reagan Early College High School in Austin, TX, is listed by Prospectsnation as the overall # 53 and position # 9 player.

.
Routt = walkon, correct?
I honestly don't know for sure. When someone commits as early as she did, you would assume a scholarship was offered. Plus, she's ranked relatively high and wouldn't have trouble earning scholarship offers from top schools.

On the other hand, she is a legacy player. And, she and her Mom moved from the Houston area to Austin a year or two ago. I'm sure their reasons are their own, but I didn't understand the move Erica Routt made from being the girls' basketball head coach at Fort Bend Kempner to the head coach at Austin Reagan. No offense to Austin area players and coaches, but the competition Shae would be facing each season against Houston area teams would be much better than what she has been facing in the Austin area.

Some schools offer "local" players different types of financial aid. I've heard that might be the case with some of the back row players on the Texas volleyball team. But, that could be inaccurate.

Thanks for the color. I thought I read on a previous post, long, long, ago, that financial aid was not an issue and Shae would play at Texas under any circumstances.

School visit with Shakira Austin. This was retweeted by Megan Walker so I choose to look at it as a good omen. While in Virginia, hopefully Coach Aston swings by Megan's house for the final home visit and a commitment.

heck, yeah! Can't let a chance like that slip away! :hookem2:
Yea it was my understanding from Coach that the in home visit was the reason for the in school visit. And that Texas will be the last school to visit with the Walkers. Not very often you get the first official visit and the last in home visit. Hoping they all end as good omens

I love how folks are cleverly mixing 2018 with 2017. Actually, MW deserves her own thread, she's that important.

Looks like we can scratch Christyn Williams from our list of possible recruits:

Very odd for a recruit to trim down their list of schools from 8 to 7 schools (reduce by one); but, in this day and age, I guess everything is "reported".

Would have loved to still be a finalist for Christyn, but sometimes it's better to find these things out early in the recruiting process. As far as I noticed, we didn't make an in-home visit with her. But, the coaches were definitely making the rounds the last few weeks.

We don't have a lot of big guards on our roster. But, the majority of our guards can play PG and SG. Christyn, I believe, could play both. But, since she hadn't visited us yet unofficially but, had visited others (including Baylor), chances are we were not among her Top 5 schools.

Anxious to see how we fill our 2017 class, and then maybe it will be clear (to us fans) what we need for 2018.

So, we didn't have a home visit with her? As Mooooo said before (I think), we probably are only looking for bigs in the 18 class.
They did visit Honesty Scott-Grayson - she is a tallish combo guard (5-10). Wonder if the staff got the feeling Christyn wasn't high on Texas or they just like Honesty's skill set more.

guess that answers that question although that tweet about her list is unavailable.
