2018 Recruiting - WBB

Sedona's Cy-Fair Shock club team is in Louisville:

Hard to believe they were beaten by Boo Williams by that margin. Christyn Williams isn't there but that team is still stacked. Doesn't look like Deja played much if at all. 2018 target Honesty Scott-Grayson and 2019 target Ashley Owusu play for Boo Williams.

Amazing that Christyn Williams was dealing with a sprained ankle in the 3X3, given what quick cuts and drives she was making. Impressive. Honesty Scott-Grayson had a great stat line in the Cy-Fair - Boo Williams game. I hope we are still on her list.

I am very glad to see Texas has an offer out to Audrey Warren! She was at our camp and she stood out to me as the best 3 point shooter in attendance! It didn't seem like she missed during the drills and she made it deep into the finals of the 1 on 1 contest. 2 spots left to complete the 2018 class and it will be interesting to see who we get from the offers on the table!

It's interesting that we seem to be increasing our interest in more 2018 players (or perhaps more 2018 players are increasing their interest in Texas). While it does appear we only have 2 slots remaining, there is a chance that either or both Jatarie and Khaleann decide not to use their fifth year of eligibility come 2018-19. With Khaleann's sister moving on after this upcoming season, it wouldn't surprise me if she decided to move on with Audrey-Anne.

To recap who we appear to be recruiting:

Frontcourt players -- Queen Egbo and Jessika Carter

Guards/Wings -- Christyn Williams, Madison Williams, Lolo Davenport, Audrey Warren, and Joanne Allen-Taylor

Egbo indicated she would release a list of finalists in July; so, if she does, we'll know if made the cut.

It's very difficult for me to assess the G/W recruits based on their size and skills and how they would be prioritized by our coaching staff. Trying to sign someone who can best fill Ariel's shoes would be a priority, IMO. Not sure who that is, but Christyn, Madison, and Lolo would appear to match her length/size.

Other than Allen-Taylor, the other four G/W players would seem to be able to play both SG and SF. But, I'm basing that just on height. I think Lolo would be a better fit at SF, but that's just my opinion.

It wouldn't surprise me if Texas tried to get into the mix for Aquira DeCosta . She is a beast as she proved on the 3 on 3 team. She did not have Texas on her most current list of schools but made the statement that she is still open to other schools. Destiny was on that 3 on 3 team as well as Christyn Williams which Texas is recruiting hard! It will be hard to squeeze all these Great players into 2 spots though.

Nice scoop, jusme. Not a headline name, but if Coach wants her, I want her. Do you know her game?

I don't know much about her. Hadn't heard anything about her until she visited Texas this past spring. But, with the offers she had from South Carolina, Miss. State, Notre Dame and Baylor, I'm assuming she is pretty darn good! :smile1:

You think this was the slot (scholarship) previously held by Tasia Foman? Seemed a sudden announcement out of the blue. Was she always considering Texas? Or a recent offer-and-commit?

No, the Foman thingy has been in the works since she quit the team in mid-season. I don't think coaches think in terms of a specific player slot, just how many ships are available. If anything, it is a response to (or the cause of) the Davenport de-commit.

This leaves 1 more available ship, assuming Joyner returns and there is no further attrition, as some folks speculate. The door is closing on Davenport, Williams and Egbo.

Great scoop @jusme828 .
She's an athletic do everything guard. Some information and scouting reports:
  • Averaged 20 points a game as a junior.
  • First-team all-district for the three straight seasons.
  • Back-to-back first-team all-state.
  • PremierBasketball: 2018 5’8” Joanne Allen-Taylor displayed explosion off the dribble with a nice ability to rise on her midrange pull-up. Allen-Taylor is a terrific ball handler whose combination of shooting and explosion will make her a very tough cover in the college game.
  • Bluestarmedia: Powder keg-level explosive guard…Showed relentless desire to win in addition to substantial skill set…Deep three-point range off catch-and-shoot…Can pull off bounce and behind ball screen…Midrange is there as well…Three-ball release could use technique consistency…Has ability to slide to the point and pass up floor in transition offense…Ivy League academic interest.

Thanks for the clarification. I haven't been watching this thread and didn't realize that Davenport de-committed. And going back through the history of this thread, I see that Allen-Taylor was always in the mix (I was wondering if this was sorta a Destiny Littleton situation).

Man, so many balls in the air with Davenport, Joyner, Tasia, and Micaya White (albeit volleyball). Not a quiet summer.

Another girl who has an offer from Texas is 6'3" Jessika Carter out of Waverly, Georgia. Not sure if she is still in the mix but she had Texas in her top ten not long ago. Filling that final spot is going to be interesting!

I think Joanne probably takes the spot that would've been available for Honesty Scott-Grayson and any other guards with an offer. Based on the distribution of players by years, I would assume a front court player would be highest on the list of priorities.

Remember when Coach A used to use the #letsride hashtag from Charlie Strong to indicate Texas had received a new verbal commitment? Guess she's not using that anymore:

About a week ago, I came across a photo on twitter of Joanne wearing a Longhorns shirt. Kids wear so many different collegiate shirts these days, so I tried not to tell myself that it meant anything significant . . .

Baylor was not among her 10 finalists announced last month. I guess they must have tried to get in on her late as they somehow made her Top 5 as indicated today.
