2018 Recruiting - Football

I'm thinking Coburn and Anderson are the must haves. Not that we'd be doomed but they fill major areas of need.

Holland does not think Jones is in the bag

He has a final three of California, Texas and Vanderbilt and hopes to make a decision in the days leading up to signing day. Jones grew up loving Texas, and it was assumed he would side with the Longhorns immediately. But there is still some work to do. Jones prefers to play on the defensive side of the ball, and his OV to Cal really opened his eyes. We expect him to visit Texas this weekend, but nothing is finalized. I will have more on Jones tomorrow.

Holland on Coburn --

... has been scheduled to visit (aggy) on the final weekend for almost a month now. But now that the date is quickly approaching, his plans appear to be up in the air. Coburn was supposed to visit TCU over the weekend but things fell through. He might end up visiting this weekend instead, but Oregon and A&M are still in play for the last trip. At the end of the day, we expect him to stick with Texas.

Holland also seems to be saying we still have a shot at Waddle. That he might visit us before the dead period. We will see

The next dead period starts Monday (Feb 5)

Please, please, please!

I think we should all come together and buy joe a case of beer, he has been all over the news for us lately

It looks like our DL recruiting will end up with something like --

Coburn
Ojomo
Carson
Williams
Ossai (dual DE/B-backer)
maybe Jackson
maybe one more

This is substantially better than how the 2018 DL class looked in early to mid December, with Giles taking some heat. Herman and staff did what they needed to do to get it corrected.

The OL class looks like --

Angilau
Ghirmani
Moore
Grandy
Anderson
Jones
(I wish Tucker too but probably not)

This class also looks better now than it did 45 days ago. I admit I still flinch at missing on JUCO Traore to LSU but landing Anderson will make up for that and serve as the perfect bridge to transition Cosmi as the starter at LT in 2019. Like the DL class, Herman and crew figured out what they still needed to do with the OL after the early signers and did it.

Time will tell but this combined line class will compare with Strong's nice haul (on paper at least) in 2016 (Christmas-Giles, Daniels, Delance, Elliott, Fitzgerald, Fowler, Hudson, Imade, Okafor, Roach, Shackelford, Southall, Urquidez, Wilbon)

If we end up with all of these linemen, I'll be so impressed. I did not think we'd end up here. Not that it's a bunch of 5*, but this is a very solid group.

Poor Perroni keeps having to answer the same question about Ossai on this own board over and over

[Ossai] hasn't signed but, yes, he's going to Texas

Perroni should change his first name to Poor
Wanna guess where Parker will be visiting instead?
:hookem:
He will not be taking previously scheduled trips to teither Auburn or aggy

Hard to be mad. He got a degree from Stanford, now gets to play out one more year in front of the family (this part is not far off from Anderson). All while being entertained by the Herminator.

Herb Hand still has another shot at a grad transfer OL -- Kevin Feder from tOSU who I think has 2 years left.

Feder is an interesting case - opportunity or liability? He's not getting a lot of attention, but is huge. Came out of a really good HS program, something like 6'8"/320. Has been in that ******** for three years. Has seen virtually no action because of multiple injuries. If he is healed or can heel, he represents a mountain at OT the next two years. If not, he's another mouth to feed.

Ingram took his mom with him to OV at aggy, along with 3 of his HS teammates.

Also, Fisher visited Carthage High School on Tuesday.

And supposedly our coaching staff was informed

Some stuff on Parker, who added offers from us, aggy, Colorado State and TCU after he committed to Piglet

“I would definitely give Texas a shot at flipping him," said a source. “I believe the Arkansas commitment came because it was new, fresh and an SEC offer. But things have changed since then.”

“He came on late because his team isn’t very good. He does stand out on film. He plays running back and linebacker but will be a linebacker at the next level. He has great size and an outstanding burst. Those things stand out. After a redshirt year, he would be ready to contribute.”

Parker himself read this account, and later tweeted out that he had no plans on redshirting

aggy Taylor Hamm claims he spoke with Ingram and "his plan is to stick with Texas."

Poor wording but you get the idea
