2018 Recruiting - Football

With Manvel the high school of both RHM and Jaylen Preston, I wonder what effect a RHM transfer might have on our prospects for landing Preston. He looks as good as anyone we have on our radar at WR.

At 64, terribly out of fooball shape former HS Center at a meek 6'2" 215 - would give up a kidney and not need a scholarship to snap punts, FG's and extra points for UT!:hookem:

The two commits from prior to early signing (Keaontay Ingram and Keondre Coburn) are huge at key positions. But all seems fine with them. And, since then, we have added Daniel Carson and Michael Williams. Assuming all 4 of them are in that leaves --

(1) Calvin Anderson grad transfer LT. the perfect bridge tackle for Cosmi. If he goes elsewhere, I will be distraught.
(2) Moro Ojomo - 16yr old DT with high ceiling at a need position
(3) Jaylen Waddle - we need a slot and he is the perfect one for us, but I dont think we get him
(4) Casey Tucker - grad transfer RT who, sadly, seems locked into ASU now
(5) Joseph Ossai - DE or LB, he fits our scheme and conference well. I admit I like him more than some do
(6) Vernon Jackson - type of athletic DE with an upside the SEC seems to sign right and left every year. We are in it but probably need Bama to use up all their slots to force him to us
(7) Tommy Bush, Jalen Preston, Josh Moore, Lawrence Keys - all WRs which is a sudden need position due to transfers. I dont know who is best, although Preston looked fantastic at the UA Game. Bush has great size/speed combo but is ticked off at us. Keys and Moore seem most likely
(8) Caleb Okechukwu/Andrew Parker - defenders our coaches like
(9) Tanner McKee - QB who seems unlikely for us. But he's really good (2 year mission first). If I thought he was coming, I would probably rank him higher
(10) OL Christian Jones - project OT who has a good motor, good size, good work effort and loves UT. Plus, we need more bodies on the OL

I think we get Anderson, Ojomo, Ossai, Moore, Keys, Parker and Jones
To go with the aforementioned Ingram, Coburn, Carson and Williams
If I guessed right, the 2018 class size would be 30 (19 signed + 4 hard commits + my 7 guesses here)
I think Herman projected 28 or 29, so I am probably off by at least one or two
I belive Herman said 31, however I count 32 spaces

I'm very challenged when it comes to these kids tweets. Anyone have ANY idea wth this means? I sure don't!

There is always the chance it has nothing to do with football
But, here, since it was public and not a DM, maybe it means there is something to see?
Carrington did tweet the "shhhh" on Sunday afternoon (which could mean a silent commit is in) -- if so, my guess is that one was for Jones, not Ojomo or Keys

Sounds like aggy put the hard squeeze'em on WR Jalen Preston this past weekend and so he will cancel his upcoming OV Austin

As to the two visitors --
We still have to beat out ND for Keys
And we still have to beat out ou and possibly even aggy for Ojomo. Word is he had a secret visit to aggy midweek. But Nahlin still put our chances with Ojomo "80-85%" -- " I didn't hear enough to move him into 90%. I'm still confident it will be Texas."

And, finally, from TFB on Coburn --
While I still think Keondre Coburn probably signs with Texas, as of right now, I am not nearly as confident as I once was. I think Texas A&M and TCU are bigger than threats than I initially anticipated. We will continue to check on this one.

Coburn has concerned me ever since he didn't sign in December. No solid reason, it just seems like we might be getting played by him. Hope I am wrong.

(aggy) Perroni on New Orleans Wright LB Andrew Parker --

The Arkansas commit went to Louisiana-Lafayette this past weekend and has a midweek to Texas. If the Longhorns push, there’s a chance he commits there and doesn’t make it to Aggieland. If not, or if he just doesn’t choose to commit, A&M will have a chance to impress him

Huge need. But if we do lose him, I say its more on Meekins than Giles
I am glad that I do not have to make a living dealing with these young confused/gamesmen athletes. I fully understand the confusion on their part (they are young and this is a big decision) but when you leave several teams holding out hope for you until the the very end, and then go elsewhere, you might make them waste scholarships.
What happened to dead weak? Or did I get that confused with my slow deathwalk to cramming for finals back in the day? It seems to me that no contact 7-10 days before signing would eliminate some of these late visits that confuse the **** out of everybody.

More regulations just hands a bigger advantage to the cheaters, who will always take advantage of those who do play by the rules.

That said, I think the two biggest surprises that I ever experienced:

1) Willis Mackey (RB from Luling) stunned everyone with a last minute decision to choose Washington over OU & Texas. To add insult to injury, he started in Seattle as a freshman and proceeded to kick our *** in the Sun Bowl. Wound up in the million dollar backfield with Bill Jones in San Marcos.

2) Hart Lee Dykes announcing at Bay City HS press conference that he was signing with Oklahoma State because, "I always wanted to be an Oklahoma State Cowboy". Hart Lee had never visited the campus, and I'm not sure he even knew what town in was in. I am sure he couldn't find it on a map of Payne County much less a map of Oklahoma.

I don't remember. I know that Eric Metcalf's mother lived in Seattle, and he had cousins who lived there and played at Washington. Eric wasn't very big, but his cousins were LARGE!

Mackey is just a different personality.

Put Mackey & Todd Dodge in a room, shut the door, record the conversation, and come back in an hour. It wouldn't matter if you had turned the recorder on or not, there wouldn't be anything on it.

I guess.
It was different for me. I knew where I was going from about 5 years old. Never wavered.

aggy mod Perroni has put his CB for Moro Ojomo to Texas

Holland snippet on Vernon Jackson --

I don't think he'll stick with Bama. Yes, I have reason to believe Texas holds a slight lead and could land him hence why Herman is going all in this week. But A&M getting that final visit is certainly scary for Texas. They could lock him if things go well. It's a toss up right now, IMO.

Holland snippet on Christian Jones --

New offensive line recruit Christian Jones was originally scheduled to make it out to Vanderbilt for an official visit this weekend. However, we are not expecting him to make it out there. Instead, we expect Jones to be in Austin. Plans are still being finalized, but from what we have been able to gather, Jones will make it to campus this weekend. And everything goes well, we expect Texas to land him.
