2018 Recruiting - Football

I hope Buechele stays. Competition in good, and I'm not sure either of the incoming QBs is ready. It would be a luxury to redshirt both, but we need a solid backup, as well as a starter if Sam doesn't learn to read the defense.

Shane has no real ties to Texas, and he knows the score - Sam is the coaches' choice. Not a good situation for Texas and not recruiting a JUCO QB before this season probably was a mistake.

At least if both QB recruits actually show up one should be a able to red shirt. It takes time to rebuild a winning QB ladder.

I feel for Shane, but he's not big enough to take this pounding for the next 5 years.

I hope he feels a part of the team regardless of his place on the depth chart. He's only a sophomore.

Where would Shane better match an offense? Next year I expect the flanker and tight ends to be a lot better, ideal for a guy good at making reads. I think Sam is indeed the starter, but he plays football like an amped up linebacker and his injuries are inevitable.

We changed the big recruiting weekend from Dec 15 to Dec 8
Among attendees will be LB Ayodele Adeoye - there was some ou concern here earlier

Key recruit for us in 2918 -- OL Junior Angilau (Salt Lake City) OVs to Austin this weekend. Is bringing parents and sister. The mom already on record preferring Texas. Buts he says he will take all 5 visits -- Utah, Oregon, USC and Washington.

Another key OL is JUCO Badara Traore. At one time, he seemed to favor us, then it was said to be LSU. But reality is he has not decided yet.
He does visit LSU this weekend, then may go to ou. Auburn is also involved.
He will sign in Dec and be an EE

.

Damone Clark: There is a lot going on right now with Texas and LB recruiting. The main guys being talked about are Texas commit Ayodele Adeoye and TAMU commit DaShaun White. Another name to keep an eye on is SU Lab (LA) LSU LB commit Damone Clark.....

LB Damone Clark (LSU commit from Baton Rouge) OVng this weekend.

I haven't heard much about in home successes the last few years. Those Mack in homes got me through the aughts.

High school OT is Kaitori Leveston out of Waco Midway (6'5,290). He is rising based off a solid senior year -- shows good footwork in the film -- is versatile
KSU commit. https://247sports.com/Player/Kaitori-Leveston-46038360

Leveston is visiting this weekend

Two CB flips to Texas, including Holland
I dont know if this means we wont be getting Angilau or one of the JUCO OTs we like. We still seem to be in great shape with Angilau in particular. Perhaps it is just a reflection of waiting to watch his senior year? Or having more schollie space than we first thought? We will see.

LOL
Guess who wants to visit Austin this weekend with his folks?
Open arms ...

There is a Dallas Lake Highlands player visiting this weekend who had a great 2018 (60 tackles, 15 sacks, 20 TFL, 1 FF, 2 FR, and 1 INT) and is climbing up the boards, getting looks from bigger schools

DE/LB Trumane Bell (6'2.232) is a current commit to UTSA

Here is the TFB's OL specialist on Leveston

Strikes me as a bit more of an interior player. Has good feet but needs to take better angles. Doesn’t feel the game as well as some others when locating linebackers and getting on defenders in the screen game. I do like his tenacity. Has a little nasty to him. Could be taught and turned into something special.

Note from Holland on this one

I know some of y’all like to prowl around Twitter, so you may have noticed that I deleted my Jarrett Jackson OV post. However, he is still coming in this weekend. Jackson asked me to delete the tweet because he was getting non-stop messages and calls from reporters on Thanksgiving. Some people just don’t understand boundaries. Jackson is looking forward to the trip and will catch up with me after he leaves campus.

That game probably did not help recruiting, although we did get a little clarity on some of the OLs on the roster

4 RS Juniors came out with the seniors for the Tech game. The implication is that they have or will have completed their degree requirements and will leave. Herman said the only one of the four he was unsure about was McMillon.

This is part of how you get to a full 25-man class in 2018

Garrett Thomas - played in 1g for his career. I guess that was enough
Alex Anderson - played in 8g total
Terrell Cuney - played 11g total, having his first semi-decent season this year playing in 8g
Jake McMillon - 32g total with 14 starts. He took RS in 2014 then played on the DL in 2015. Moved to OL in 2016 (5 starts). Played in 11g this season but with his hand in a cast part of those. Mostly an OG but has started at C when needed

Surprised Cuney will leave.

Not sure if that's us or him
My best guess is that the new coaches made that deal with those guys when they came in. Stick it out, do your best, support us and the prgram and you will have a spot through your RS Jr year. But not beyond
