2018 Recruiting - Football

TFB on the Terrace Marshall visit

Going into this visit I would’ve given Texas very little chance to land Marshall. However, speaking to a source it sounds like the visit is going extremely well. Part of Texas’ pitch to Marshall is how much Herman will utilize wide receivers. That sounds like a pretty general pitch but consider that Marshall’s top schools are Alabama, LSU, TAMU, FSU and Texas that becomes a pretty sound pitch.

TAMU – unstable. I’m told by a source that they are out for Marshall.

FSU – is having a horrible season.

Alabama – source tells me that Bama may not even get a official visit. I’m told the family is very concerned with how little the WRs actually get the ball.

LSU – this is considered by most to be the favorite however one source said that the Marshall family is very aware of the fact that LSU is, for a lot of wide receivers, a place where you go only to never been heard of again.

I’m told that the Marshall family seems to be really buying into Herman’s vision for the future and the class he is putting together. Am told that Jamison, Woodard and Eagles were all recruiting Marshall.

This is huge. Although we are doing well at the position already, you just don't pass on a player like this. If we could just find the equivalent of this kind of talent at the OL position.

Rule #1 in crootin, win over mom!

Sticking with this theme, we spent alot of time over the weekend covering the academic side to aggy commit DaShaun White and his mom. It supposedly worked and we got the mother's blessing if he does decide to flip (per 247).

Like Marshall above, its not a done deal. But a positive sign for now at least.
ou said to be a threat for White as well

DE Joseph Ossai (Conroe) visited aggy with his parents this weekend
He has been there 3 weeks in a row now
Not sounding so good for us -- he likes our coaches but they say he likes the 'cult culture' at aggy
Not trending well for us

Holland does not think aggy closed the deal with Ossai this weekend, so we are still in it. He's a definite take as far as I am concerned.

Chasen Hines did make it to campus
His mom is still pro-LSU and has even kept him from visiting Austin in the past
But he likes us, so we have a chance
He is buds with Keontay Ingram

Holland doesnt think the Hines visit went as great for us
He is LSU commit

OB thinks Terrace Marshall is down to LSU and Texas
And there will be no OV to Alabama.
He is due to visit LSU around Thanksgiving

It sounds like we're still in the running for some top recruits. Even if we land two with this class (include Cook), we have to be knocking on the door of the #1 spot.

Terrace Marshall has a new twitter avi pic

Hines -- looks to be carrying his weight better than earlier pic
How would like to be playing in high school and lined up across from him?

Is it me or does it seem he is not at all into this. No Texas gear. No hook em. No smile. Just stone cold stare ...

The gurus who talk to Ossai say he does not seem to be aware that Sumlin may be getting fired

Some more on the Marshall visit, quotes from his father who says the entire family will move with him to the new city. He says Texas visit beat aggy and FSU visits.

“Knowing how Herman likes to air it out. They’re bringing in two of the best quarterbacks and Terrace already knows Casey (Thompson). They (the staff) know right now the program isn’t where they want to it be but look at the class they’re bringing. They want to get their guys in there.”

“Baton Rouge can’t compare to Austin. I loved Austin. I’ve got a cousin who stays in Austin. I don’t go out much but if we move to Austin I may have to start going out”.

Marshall will sign Dec 22

Yes, it's just bad luck for us this cycle that its not a great year in state for OLs. If it were, we would be cleaning up. The best 2018 OLs are out of state, and if we were going to do well with those guys, we needed to win games this season. Sadly, that ship has sailed

We do have verbals from Ghirmai and Moore, two of the better in state OLs.
Another possible in state OT is Frank Fillip (6'7,263) of Clear Lake

The JUCO Traore may be leaning LSU (which probably explains the interest in JUCO Jahmir Johnson, see one post up). We are supposed to be in good shape with 4-star Sione Angilau of Utah who is going to OV to Texas, date uncertain

Another possible OOS is still Jarrett Bell (6'5,295) from Calif who just de-committed from Alabama. We are supposed to be getting him in for an OV

Good news on this front
Not that we need an OT or anything

Angilau will be back in Austin for his OV over Thanksgiving.

We will take the full 25
The rules have changed on applying EEs to the previous class
Now the 25-man limit is closer to an actual hard number
The goal of the rule change was to eliminate the oversigning phenomenon (Bama holla)
Although this is not 100% certain -- the new rules are hard to find and do not make for easy reading

"One Texas player that has been helping in the recruitment of Marshall is Lil'Jordan Humphrey, who trained with Marshall's trainer, Margin Hooks, during his time in high school and still does in the offseason. Humphrey has spoken with Marshall about Mehringer, the Texas offense and the future of the program. It seems like the two are building a nice friendship."
