2017 Recruiting

Welp, glad to at least see her confirm that. I hate it when people prematurely say something they aren't sure about.

So is Texas currently @ 13 schollies for next year with current committs? How many do they have left (2 maybe?) I thought I counted 13 filled.

We actually have 3 scholarships available to offer for the 2017 class. We currently have 14 on scholarship with 2 seniors, Kelsey & Breanna, that will be graduating. Making up the 3 spots. We already have one commitment from Chastity Patterson so that leaves 2 open spots that are still on the table. One that Megan Walker takes, I hope.

Are there any other offers still out other than Walker? Or is she pretty much the last one in before they shut the door? I know some coaches don't like having a full roster.

I know they offered G Cara Ursin (LA), PG Chennedy Carter and F Vivian Gray - as far as I know, none of them have eliminated Texas but Patterson's commitment might have impacted the guards. They could take 1 of those 3 and, if Walker chooses UCONN or ND, carry that last scholarship into the 2018 class.

I suppose you can never have enough guards but I like Vivian Gray.

Trinity Oliver (Euless) committed to Baylor. Unranked by ESPN/ProspectsNation, she averaged 25 pts, 11 rebounds, 4 steals, 35% from 3 for Euless Trinity - pretty impressive for an unranked player. Played on same AAU team as Sedona, Tatum, and Vivian.

Strange that she announced her commitment like 3 hours ago and no one on the Baylor message board has mentioned it.

Oliver is an interesting prospect. I took note of her this February as she led the DFW in scoring, I believe; her numbers indicate that she is a very productive player. Not sure what position she will play in college, but most likely SF. Not sure she's quick enough to play SG. Time will tell. Not even sure which position she plays on the club team with Tatum Veitenhiemer and Vivian Gray, but probably SF.

With Baylor also having Didi's verbal, I'll be curious to see if they are both going to play SF.

I saw her play in Frisco back in July at a national tournament and she is really good.........she will be a thorn in our side ..............probably in her sophomore year and after. Her high school stats are mostly due to her athleticism, quickness and size. Didn't need outside shooting. Her 3 point shot is now good so I think she will play SG in college but being 5'-10" or larger, she can play SG or SF as they are interchangeable for athletes like her. She and her mom are really good folks and I hate to see them go to the dark side. She didn't have an offer from Texas.

DFW_Horn/Moooo/jusme828,

What exactly did the Walker tweet say? I trust she didn't rule Texas out?

Really curious to know who else we are pursuing for 2017. Obviously, Megan Walker appears to be at the top of our wishlist. Have seen nothing about Rellah Boothe whatsoever in the last couple of months. Don't believe she can take any official visits until she takes one of the college entry exams.

Other than that, we had extended an offer to 6'4 Emer Nichols of Houston Westbury Christian, but that was before Jatarie transferred in. Chennedy Carter still came to our camp even after Chasity announced her commitment.

Vivian Gray and Cara Ursin are the only other names that comes to mind.

Those are the only ones that come to mind that haven't eliminated Texas from consideration officially. PF/C Sidney Cooks (#6 overall) from Kenosha, WI, had an offer but recently cut her list to 4 Big 10 teams and UCLA. I assume Jade Williams got an offer but never got any sort of Texas vibe from her. Lexi Gordon chose UCONN, at best Texas was 3rd on her list. I think any shot at Rellah went out the door when Travis went to SMU.

I wouldn't be surprised if Texas carried 1 or even 2 scholarships over to the big-laden 2018 class.

Well the big announcement was also listed as an 'opportunity.' So not sure the above applies. I was thinking more along the lines of what Babhorn mentioned (open practices) or some other type of offering. But who knows really.

I was thinking a lot of things. Someone from 2020 class committed. Sedona or Charli recommitted because they're big. Or someone we're after for 2017 committed. Well, now that the big announcement is out of the way, I'm getting ready to support the volleyball team here in Eugene. Go Horns! :hookem2:

remember the wording: announcement and opportunity. No way that would have been about a recruit. I forgot that they are working on getting the foundation of support stronger and bigger. There's the opportunity to help the program.

Alexis Morris has de-committed from UCLA; guess she'll commit to Baylor soon:

Wow. I figured she'd at least go one semester at UCLA before realizing where she really wanted to be. I'm sure she's going to Baylor, but surprised Mulkey stayed in touch. Well...not really.

I read that the UCLA team just returned to LA yesterday from a two-week trip in Australia. Nice welcome back gift!

I doubt it means anything, but Morris did just start following an assistant basketball coach for Wisconsin on twitter.
