2017 Recruiting

Wow, can you imagine Chennedy and Lashann together, two guards who are unstoppable to the basket? One or the other could get there every play, with our other great guards bombing away from outside ( or also going to the basket). I hope we get Carter.

Great concept. I love how much he's watched these kids play and the way he posts the other two services for comparison. This makes me wish for Carter even more. I guess the more good players we get, the greedier I become.

re: Chennedy Carter

Granted she looks fabulous, but we've already got Patterson committed at guard and we need another big girl more, don't we? Are there any left in 2017? If we got Carter that would mean in 2017 we would have seven guards and six of them (SIX!) would be McDonald's All-Americans who were ranked in the top ten in the nation. That's great on paper, but some of them would have to sit on the bench and none of them would want to. If we played all of them, I don't see how they would get enough minutes to reach their full development potential or establish team chemistry. And we will have some talented bigs who need playing time, too. It seems quite possible for such a situation to produce disappointment, resentment, and transfer problems. Sometimes you can have too much of a good thing. Just saying...

I totally agree. I've always said that Coach Aston was going to recruit two players for 2017, a guard and a post player. Now that Texas basically has that wiith Chasity and Jatarie I think they're done for 2017.

With one scholarship available I think they'll play the recruiting game with Megan Walker and let her take a visit if she wants to because it's good publicity to be one of the schools that the best player in the country is considering. But Walker is probably going to Uconn or Notre Dame.

If you consider Ariel a guard, we played a lot of 3-guard lineups this past season. We lost Empress and Celina, and gained Alecia; so, we will have one less guard on the upcoming roster than last season. If we assume Alecia won't be at full strength until maybe December, that somewhat mirrors Ariel's absence last Fall.

For all we know, Chennedy's list was prior to Chasity's commitment. If it was afterwards, and Coach A still wants her to take an official visit, no harm in that. I'm sure she will pick the place that's best for her. On paper, the level of guards we are recruiting is elite; and, every new recruit probably has the confidence that they can beat out those in front of them. Nothing wrong with that; that's what you want. Eventually, the cream will rise to the top; and, if some players move on based on playing time, that's the sports world we currently live in.

We saw plenty of games last season where Empress, Ariel and Brooke got into early foul trouble; we didn't necessarily have the quality depth for substitutes. I'm of the opinion that you can never have enough quality guards; think that was Coach Conrad'ts saying.

As we know, all it takes is one injury to severely affect the depth chart. I will trust Coach A to juggle the roster and fill voids each season. If we took Chennedy (or another guard for 2017), perhaps that allows us to not take a guard in 2018 and focus on Sedona and a power forward (like Queen Egbo or Nalyssa Smith). But, we lose Brooke, Ariel, and Tasia in 2018. So, the "needs" never end.

There are starters and backups for a reason. Uconn was obviously the best team in the country and their quality of guard play on the bench was average. I think Carter will end up going to play with her good friend McElroy at a&m.

Latest News on #1 Megan Walker:
As the nation’s top player, Walker has several college programs eyeing her, but she said she has her short list down to four schools and plans to make a decision by early fall.
“I’m making a decision probably by like the end of September,” she said. “I’ve got Notre Dame, UConn, Texas and (Virginia). I’m down to those four.”

This may just be the product of a sleep-deprived mind but Coach Aston's latest tweet?

Megan Walker's Twitter handle? @iball_crzy
Sneaky, sneaky.

Megan Walker is the recruit that said she wants to attend a school with a big football program. I bet Karen brings her in to visit on the weekend of the Texas-Notre Dame football game. (If so, hopefully we'll win or at least make it a competitive game.)

Alexis Morris has committed to UCLA. She chose UCLA over Baylor. Baylor folks are disappointed and wondering if the current crisis at BU played a role in her decision.

Baylor fans have been more than overconfident that Morris was gonna commit to them. I guess that's partly because some "insiders" were posting as much, and basically saying the commitment was a sure thing because Morris was friends with Didi. Well, we all know that being friends doesn't guarantee anything as Didi being friends with Joyner and Jada wasn't enough for her to re-commit to Texas.

As for her choosing UCLA, I'm not convinced that is a good idea. I know there have been some players from Texas recently go to UCLA under Close's tenure, but none have had success there. But, she now joins Kayla Owens as two Texans for UCLA's 2017 class.

That's a big loss for baylor. It will be interesting to see if it's too late for them to try to get another point guard from the 2017 class. We've talked about ucla and their recruiting success under Close. I think the best recruiters in wbb right now are Coach Aston, Cori Close, and the coach at Ohio State.

Baylor must be stunned. I have read several times it was just a matter of when she announced. Were counting their chickens too soon. Wonder if they will go hard now after Carter and Evans.
