2017 Recruiting

Some one please explain to me why any female, athlete or not, would want to go to the cesspool that is Baylor? Those clowns obviously don't have the welfare of any of these women as a priority.

I think people look at it as it happens on every campus. I mentioned it to some friends of mine who went to lsu and they showed me some stats where it happens on these campuses all the time. He also said to me "just look at the woman's body they found at Texas".

That kind of put it in perspective to me.

"It happens on every campus" is absolutely RIDICULOUS AT BEST!!! Baylor WREAKS of HYPOCRISY!!! They have flat out LIED in an attempt to hide this criminal/repeated behavior by its athletes. Do you honestly think they would have fired their Lord and Saviour of football Art Briles if it happened on every campus? No way. They know what's coming and they are attempting to minimize the long term damage!!!

They condemn homosexuality in their student handbook and attempt to clump it in with pedophiles, etc., yet they USED Britany Griner and her athletic ability, all the while demanding that she hide her tattoos AND her sexuality. NOW, we find out about these rapes and violence against women, and that they have been covering these repeated acts up in an attempt to save their glorious football team and coaches. HYPOCRISY at its best. They literally have NO SHAME.

Does a cover-up of multiple sexual assaults by the HC, coaching staff, AD and University President "happen on every campus"?

Tragedies can occur on any campus. Most are very rare, and not sports-related. It's sad for everyone.

But, university administrators and coaches overstepping their authority in order to protect male players who assault or abuse female students simply to promote a win-at-all-costs culture is shameful.

Happens more than you think. Look at Cam Newton, Aron Hernadez, Courtney Williams just to name a few. We can't judge others because things happen on our campus also. I don't get into the judging of others. Sorry not my forte.

I dont care what schools parents and recruits choose to attend. They should do what's best for them. But you were comparing apples and oranges. A homeless kid with no connection to Texas killing a female student is not the same as the baylor situation. Most of the schools in that article including baylor are located in small college towns.

It's a lot easier to cover up things in small town universities. I don't throw rocks at other universities because I know that any fan of a big time athletic program is living in a glass house. But that still doesn't make the baylor situation okay.

It happens at every school is your way of accepting / approving / supporting a shameful act....kinda like like the school is doing! I differ with that absurd theory. Every school does not have their athletes acting in this way with the school supporting this behavior

Not supporting that or any wrong doing by anyone in this world. What I am saying and it's sad that I have to break this down so that you can understand..........is we as people have to be careful on condemning others. We ALL have skeletons in our closets and I will not put anyone or anything down. When I played, there were a lot of things that went on and it was not right. I will not go into details but just know that more than a few things were covered up. I will leave this topic along now because it isn't fair to my ex teammates in college or in the pros. Sorry for even discussing the topic but, I just look at this a little different because I was there.

With Chasity's commitment Texas has one scholarship remaining in the 2017 class. Now who are we targeting for that spot?
Vivian Gray
Megan Walker
Rellah Booth (didn't have UT on last list of schools)
Deauzeah Richards (Baylor commit)

Anyone else I'm missing that we have made an offer to?

Yeah, I'd say a minimum of two more slots for 2017 kids.

While our coaches may have their own player rankings, one would think that Megan Walker and/or Rellah Boothe would be takes, if they wanted to come. Walker has stated she will take official visits in the summer/fall. Boothe had yet to take a college entrance exam as of a few weeks ago, and I believe the rule is that a recruit cannot make an official visit until they have taken at least one exam.

There's a chance that Jatarie White's transfer affects our frontcourt needs for the 2017 class; perhaps that impacts Boothe and/or Center, Emer Nichols of Houston Westbury Christian who we offered last month or so.

With Patterson's commitment, her overall skills could mean that we don't take a second guard; could affect Chennedy Carter, Cara Ursin, and/or Haley Troup.

Vivian Gray could bring size and skills that we don't have a lot of at the SF position. So, her value might be right there with that of Megan Walker based on our needs. Getting a small forward at or around 6'0 sure would add balance to the lineup.

Nice problem to have for our coaches, I'm sure. Doubt they will take their feet off the gas, though.

I'm sure that Coach Aston will continue to recruit Megan Walker and see what happens after she takes her visits. And with the slim chance that we get Walker along with getting Patterson and white for 2017, I think Texas is basically finished with this class.

In addition to those you listed, recruits (or their coaches) have tweeted that offers were extended to Chennedy Carter, Haley Troup, and Emer Nichols.

This will all be a lot more clear to me after we see Audrey-Ann and Khaleann play and learn their strengths. In spite of their height, I'm not certain I understand their best fit on the floor, perimeter or down low. What about Jada - is she a shooting guard, small forward, what?

Karen certainly will not lack the piece parts for a dozen different lineups. With this versatility comes the need for a lot of tinkering in the first 10 games to find the best groupings.

I always projected the twins as stretch 4s but I read an article recently that said one of them is more physical and doesn't mind mixing it up under the basket.

Based on her skill set, Jada seems like a Swiss-army knife at the SF position - good enough midrange game and handle to pull a larger defender away from the paint but the size and frame to take advantage of a smaller/slighter defender down low. Her rebounding numbers also indicate a level of meanness that a coach like Karen should really like.

Well, we as fans probably won't get to see the twins on the court until November. I'd expect recruiting for 2017 to be completed by that time (except perhaps Boothe's, which won't surprise me if that goes into the Spring). Luckily, Coach A has spent that last 10-11 months watching one twin practice with the rest of the team.

While I won't say that Patterson's commitment was the most important of the 2017 class, the fact that we now have her verbal and it coincided with White's transfer, the coaches can almost feel relieved that they filled needs and added depth. Patterson being able to play both guard positions is a huge bonus.

Any other additions to the 2017 class are gravy, IMO.

Audrey Ann is a Jr. College All-American who was a deadly three point shooter last year. She was Co-MVP of the championship tournament won by her team. She is also an excellent rebounder and the one Aston describes as the more hard nosed type. Aston described Khaleann as more the stretch four type, who is more mobile and a good ball handler. Both players can force defenders to go outside with them. You never know, but they could have a very big impact. Jada had a better than .330 percentage from the three point line. She even played guard some in high school, I believe. But she seems a natural small forward wing in college. If these three players really come through, it will be huge.

Good points.

I too think we are in a position to offer two more ships. There are a couple of sophomores in danger of getting passed up if the lightbulb doesn't come on soon; in which case one or both are transfer possibilities.

The team is so deep at every position (except a 6'7" post), Karen may simply have the luxury of recruiting the best basketball player(s) - without regard to position.

Time will tell if we get an official, or if both parties have moved on (based on our recent additions). Mizzou wasn't even mentioned the last time she mentioned "finalists" (South Carolina, Texas Tech, Texas, and Vandy); but, things can change quickly.
