2016 recruiting

I've always felt Oregon was Ionescu's least likely destination. I believe her brother was asked to walk-on at UO, and not offered a scholarship. But, that could be irrelevant.

I think Sabrina ends up at Cal, it's right down the street from her and they've recruited her harder than any of the other schools and also the longest.

Sabrina's brother has verbally committed to Oregon, could mean Sabrina is next...if so, maybe we land Chou. You are right Mooo, as a walk on.

Not that my logic means anything, but since they are twins, if they were both gonna commit to Oregon, they would have announced it at the same time. Obviously, she still has a visit scheduled to Oregon State this coming weekend; he could definitely have waited to tweet his verbal commit until next week if both were gonna be Ducks.

nice video of Sabrina. Nice jump shot up to the 3pt line, nice floater and she has range well beyond the 3pt line.

and still have a shot at # 4 or #8. When was the last time Texas had a #1 recruiting class?

From that page:
In Joyner Holmes, the Longhorns have a verbal commitment from perhaps the most versatile, electrifying and highest-potential prospect in the 2016 class. At 6-foot-3, Holmes is listed as a forward, but the No. 2 prospect in the nation can play every spot on the floor and play it well. Think Ariel Atkins-type instant impact.

Coach Karen Aston also scored big with point guard Alecia Sutton, the No. 6 prospect in the class. Sutton has savvy, she's elusive off the dribble, and she has what appears to be an effortless ability to attack the rim and score.

Rounding out the Longhorns' class is Jada Underwood, a solid three-star wing.

From that page:
If Texas can land either one (Chou or Ionescu) and Jada comes close to what she was averaging at the time of the injury (26 pts/12 rebounds), I think Texas overtakes Maryland even though the Terps will have a larger class. Getting 20/10 in a talented, competitive area like DFW should move Jada into the Top 50 at least.

The thing that shocked me the most was Baylor. They may still be in it for Cox and Chou but 1 commit just 3 weeks from the November signing period?

From that page:
Maryland has only one top 10 recruit, but is currently #1 on the strength of 4 in the top 30. But if Texas were to add just one more, either Ionescu or Chou, we would definitely be the top class. ND could give us a run if they land Cox; that would give them #'s 1, 5 and 11, and we'd have 2, 6 and either 4 or 8 as the third top 10. With three top 8 recruits, and potentially three top 6 I would still give us the edge.

Any confirmation that Natalie Chou made it to campus for her official visit? Didn't see any camera shots of her or the team at the volleyball game last night.

Interesting question. Don't know the weather Friday afternoon in Dallas, but it was not that bad here in Austin. I know practice this morning was cancelled, probably due to the weather.

Can't be any worse than what Baylor is having in hosting Cox.

The only thing I've seen from Chou is a 'favorite' on Lauren Cox's father's tweet of the Baylor football field this morning.

well, you gotta think both will be at the four at times. That matchup will be great to watch. I can't remember the last time the Big 12 has landed the #1 & #2 ranked players. :hookem:

Obviously, it would have been fun to watch Baylor miss out on another elite in-state player. But, with her, Holmes, and Nancy Mulkey staying in the Big 12, that does give the Big 12 more on-the-court and recruiting "power". Add in Ramirez at TCU, and you have several of the best in Texas staying in the conference; we'll see what Chou decides to do.

As for Baylor, lots of frontcourt depth. The player most affected by Cox's commitment will be Justis Sczepanski-Beavers; unless she has developed a 3 point shot, minutes will be tough to come by for her.

Good pick up for them, I don't care about the school that she's going to in the conference. We just need to step up and start beating them, there is no doubt we will have the personnel to do that.

I may regret this, but I'm glad Lauren decided to stay in-state in order to keep the talent within the borders. This is not only exciting news for Baylor, but also for the Big 12 Conference. The I-35 Rivalry is will be off the charts with Lauren at Baylor and Joyner at Texas.

Don't forget about Nancy Mulkey at OU and Brittany Brewer at Tech, all in the top 60. Post play in the Big 12 is going to be great to watch.

I just don't get when fans talk about conference bragging rights. I root for one team and that's UT. I don't want baylor or any team in our conference to be good. I want every team to stink, baylor hasn't given back their 5 or 6 conference championships that they've won in a row, not to mention their conference tournament championships because the overall quality of the conference hasn't been very good. And right now it's not a rivalry, we haven't beaten them since Cokie Reed's freshman year and that was the game Griner didn't play for punching the tech player.

While I agree that I care only about Texas winning, I don't necessarily want every other team to stink. That being said, I want Baylor to suck in perpetuity. What Baylor's athletic department/FB team covered up the last year, how they treated the female athlete involved, and Mulkey's general behavior and comments make me sick. Rant over - we now return to our normal broadcast: 2016 recruiting.

Anyone can tell you that I was always an avid "Mulkey watcher" I love her on the court demeanor, and the way her kids play for her. But after the crap she pulled last year with emp and the post game comments I could care less if she never won another game. Its one thing to watch a coach be classless (Think Waltz and Geno Auriemma) but it is another thing entirely when it is focused at your Alma mater. Hoping that they never win another game and that Cox regrets her decision for all of eternity.

I don't see the comparison. Cox is a 5 IMO, she will battle Brown for playing time who will have had a year under her belt. Mompremier has the chance to be the 4 more than the other 2 but they could go with Mompremier at the 5 and go much quicker as both Brown and Cox slows them down. I guess it will depend on the match ups.

Well, I was definitely hoping Cox would go somewhere other than Baylor, but the fact is she has chosen the Bears.

While I still don't Baylor to win any games or championships, the 2016 class of in-state players could be setting a precedent that staying in state (or the Big 12) for their collegiate careers is better than going elsewhere. Lots of elite in-state players have headed out of state recently, but now we see the worm changing.

Still have see no confirmation that Natalie Chou visited Texas this weekend. She did tweet out congratulations to Cox for her verbal to Baylor. Hoping Ionescu makes her announcement very soon.
