2016 recruiting

Will be interesting to see if Audrey (who I still haven't seen anywhere that she has verballed to Texas) will sign in November or next April . . .
I think someone has the video of Fran's interview with Khaleann from a few months ago, she says her sister will be coming to Texas.

that PN ranking for Baylor is pretty high for only two players. They are going to challenge for the top spot if they get Natalie plus one other. I think they still have room for two more players to go with the two they have now.

Ionescu - unfortunate but what most people expected.

Chou - if I had to put money down, I'd go Baylor right now but I'm hoping she seriously considers the academic advantages of Texas plus the need for her skill set and picks the good guys.
An old teacher of mine, when her daughter was considering colleges toured Baylor. They were branding themselves "The Harvard of the Brazos". I think she was turned off when she realized they wouldn't/couldn't teach evolution in biology class. Harvard on the Brazos....[smirk]

Transferred to North Texas 1.5 years into her time at Baylor.

Harvard on the Brazos? I know they are trying to sell it differently but it it's more along the lines of 'world's tallest dwarf.'

I think you're selling Baylor short, racer, as that was not my experience when I toured Baylor with my daughter only 3 years ago. Baylor is a special place and they're able to offer much more because of their Christian mission. Like Harvard, Baylor was founded on the Christian mission, but unlike Harvard, Baylor continues to fulfill the mission of the Gospels. For many players including Texas's Ariel, Tasia, Brooke, and even recruit Natalie, faith is a big part of their lives and who they are and Baylor offers this that Texas cannot.

Got my horns crossed that Natalie will choose Texas.

I do wonder how the diversity of the student body will play a role in Chou's decision. Berkeley and UCLA (schools Natalie officially visited) have a large population of Asian students; Texas probably less so than the West coast schools. Baylor?

In my opinion most elite recruits aren't really paying attention to religious beliefs, they want to go to a really good program. I think those kinds of things are more important to the regular student body. Do you think Griner would have gone to baylor if they didn't have a good basketball program, probably not. I just know this, if I'm a 17 or 18 year old kid there's no way I'm spending 4 years in Waco tx.

Moooo, I don't think the asian student population would be a factor for Natalie since she is engaged in basketball. She's been exposed to and is comfortable regardless of race or ethnicity since she's engaged in basketball. However, the University of Texas at Austin's academic reputation resonates among the asian population. This could be a factor for Natalie's mother. Again, this is all speculation.

Each student-athlete is different as far as their interests outside of their main sport. There might be social groups/clubs on campus that are very welcoming to certain ethnicities and help students adjust to college life (academically and socially). Obviously, scholarship athletes have much more "support" than the non-athlete student.

Not sure what you mean by "they're able to offer much more because of their Christian mission" other than their bigotry and prejudice. Texas is a far better school academically than Baylor. Their so-called "christian mission" includes clumping the LGBT community in with adultery in their student code handbook. The faith thing wasn't enough to push Ariel, Tasia or Brooke in Baylor's direction!!! I'm sure hoping she chooses Texas and it's superior academics and progressive and inclusive atmosphere over Baylor!!!!!

I don't know if Griner is an appropriate example as she has said she was lied to during the recruiting process. She asked a specific question, was given an answer, and then told something different when she arrived on campus.

I think many of the topics being discussed on this thread have little to do with Natalie's, or any other recruits decision. Students of varied backgrounds and beliefs are a part of most athletic programs, and all major universities reflect a wide range of ethnic, and other forms of diversity. I doubt most recruits give much, if any thought to these types of concerns. And I certainly don't think an athlete of a particular heritage is looking to see what proportion of the student body comes from a similar background. People form relationships with individuals, not groups. Like most recruits, I'm sure Natalie will ultimately make her choice based on where she feels most comfortable. And yes, I hope that's Texas.

I am not sure that deciding on a college is at the top of Natalie's list right now as she and her family are dealing with the passing away of her grandmother yesterday.

SportsDayDFW's preview of the upcoming high school season:
http://beta.sportsdaydfw.com/high-s...-changes-top-local-powers-preseason-area-team

Joyner Holmes on All Area team, Jada an honorable mention. They listed Ciera Johnson as a UT commit but then later got it right with Louisville. The talent in the DFW area is sick, here's the complete all area team with ESPN National Rankings:
Lauren Cox - 1
Joyner Holmes - 2
Natalie Chou - 8
ArLeighshya McElroy - 63
Vivian Gray - 14 (2017)

Some Honorable Mentions:
Ciera Johnson - 15
Chennedy Carter - 17 (2017)
Zarielle Green - 14 (2018)
Jade Williams - 19 (2017)

Am I seeing things in that writeup regarding Ciera Johnson? I see "UT pledge averaged 14.9 points and 9.6 assists". She is committed to Louisville as far as here twitter page is concerned.

No one that I know of (especially not a post player) averaged "9.6 assists". Wonder where that came from . . .

Ciera-Louisville: That's what I meant when I said they got it right later - in the "Teams To Watch" section (Duncanville).

Natalie is going to Baylor.
from her twitter: I would like to thank all the programs that have recruited me! I'm happy to say that Im going to Baylor University for the next 4 year

wonder if that means we are done for 2016?
I would think we'd have to be. Most were wondering how we were going to make one more work given Audrey Ann's arrival next season, though we assumed the staff could find a way to add either Sabrina, or Nathalie, if one or the other chose to commit. But now that both are going elsewhere, I feel pretty certain that's a wrap for 2016. And that leaves us with an exciting, deep, ultra talented and full roster of 15 for 2016-17!

Good pick up for baylor. I think she will have a bigger impact there than Cox. Good luck to her, except for when she plays Texas.

If she was going anywhere but Baylor, I'd offer her good luck. So, oh well.

Honestly, I've had mixed feelings about what her role would have been at Texas, other than a "shooter" to play against zone defenses. Same at Baylor. I don't think she's quick enough on defense to play shooting guard, and might not be big/strong enough to play SF. Don't think the Texas or Baylor style of play are best for her; always a chance she gets lost on the depth chart based on the talent on each team, and I don't think she'll be a consistent starter at either school.

At Texas, she'd most likely be competing for minutes against Ariel Atkins (for 2 seasons) and Jordan Hosey (for 3 seasons) and even Jada Underwood for 4 seasons. If we get Didi Richards to re-commit, that would add even more competition at SF for 3 seasons. Baylor has a lot of talent in the backcourt, including combo guards like 2015 Alyssa Dry and Alexndria Gulley, and versatile 6'0 G/F Calveion Landrum. Krisi Wallace will also demand minutes her final 2 season at Baylor once Chou arrives.

I could see her flourish in an offense like that of Iowa State. Had always figured she was going West to either Cal or UCLA, but I guess she wanted to stay in Texas.

As for the remainder of our 2016 class, there could always be a surprise in the Spring. If Ionescu doesn't sign this Fall, who knows if things change based on how her 4 semi-finalists perform this upcoming season? I think she wants to sign with Cal, but Oregon getting her brother to walk on has muddied the waters. Maybe a few extra months of (re-)thinking things gives us a second chance. Maybe we get Ciera Johnson to re-consider . . . (although probably too late).

Disagree, she would start for this team next year. She can shoot the ball reasonably well from the 3 pt line and put the ball on the floor and get her own shot. I know everyone has high hopes for Ariel, but she didn't show me anything last year that says she's that much better than Chou. Especially shooting the ball from the the 3 pt line. She shot 28% from 3 last year that's not very good.

I think we've been done in recruiting for the 2016 class. If you go back and read the tweet that Jada had when Joyner committed which I think you posted on here she says the" dream team" is finally complete. Which was basically saying the team was done recruiting.

Looking at 2017 Coach Aston needs to go out and find a perimeter player that can shoot the ball from the 3 pt line at a high level. This is not the 80's where you can out athlete everyone and win. The game is all about pace and space, you are not going to be successful running any offense let alone a inside out offense like she wants to run with a bunch of Empress Davenport's out there shooting 10% from the 3 pt line.

Sorry, but you thinking she'll have a bigger impact than Cox is insane; Lauren will be a 4 year starter for Baylor. The reason Chou wouldn't start at Texas or Baylor is her defense; both Mulkey and Aston preach defense, and I think she would get schooled defensively in the Big 12, and she would find herself on the bench because of it. She will be a situational player at best, and mainly to bust a zone defense. Not saying she isn't talented, but I just don't playing at Baylor or Texas gets her much court time. Sadly, she will be one of those players at Baylor who stays for only 2 seasons.
