WORLD CUP 2010 (TV Schedules and brackets also)

SPOILER!

Cameroon 1, Denmark 0--10th minute.

A careless pass from inside the Dane's box gifts possession to Cameroon. One pass later, the ball is at Samuel Eto'o's feet some 12 meters from goal. His strike does not miss.

SPOILER!

Cameroon 1, Denmark 1--33rd minute.

A superb long-ball from well inside Denmark's half finds right winger Dennis Rommedahl beating an offside trap in the Cameroon attacking third. Rommedahl settles the ball, angles into the box and crosses his pass in front of goal, just beyond the keeper's reach, into the waiting feet of Nicklas Bendtner.

Spoiler

Half 1-1 Denmark-Cameroon

Wow after the goals for both teams, each with some defensive lapses but neither capitalizes on other's mistake and match is still drawed 1-1. It could easily be 3-2 by now with the chances for both sides that have been missed. Exciting match going end to end.

SPOILER!

Denmark 2, Cameroon 1--61st minute.

The man of the match so far, Dennis Rommedahl, gets into the box again from the right side and this time decides to go for goal himself. His left-footed shot beats the keeper to the far post and gives Denmark its first lead of this tournament.

SPOILER!

Denmark 2, Cameroon 1--Final.

Cameroon has been eliminated. Denmark lives on and essentially faces Japan on Thursday for a knockout round play-in game.

To quote the color commentator from the ESPN broadcast: "There's going to be a few drunk Vikings tonight, I should think."

I feel for Cameroon, I do. I always pull for African teams in the world cup (ever since Morocco in 1986), and I have a terrible feeling the knockouts will be devoid of any African teams. Here's hoping the Cote and Ghana can squeeze by.

I am the exact same way about the African teams. However, I am not rooting for the S. African Bafoona Bafoona team. Nothing on them personally but it may silence the horns that seem to bother so many people. I am not one of them but I am still not pulling for them.

SPOILER!

Paraguay 1, Slovakia 0--26th minute.

CONMEBOL looks poised to remain unbeaten in group play courtesy of an early goal from Enrique Vera. Lucas Barrios sends a promising through ball to Vera, who uses the outside of his right foot to redirect the Jabulani into the back of the net.

Paraguay is in total control; Slovakia has yet to take a shot.

SPOILER!

Paraguay 1, Slovakia 0--Halftime.

Very one-sided match so far. The South Americans have outshot their Eastern European counterparts 8-1 overall and 4-0 on goal.

SPOILER!

Paraguay 2, Slovakia 0--86th minute.

After a free kick finds its way into the box, the ball is laid off to Cristian Riveros, who blasts away from about 12 meters and beats the keeper to his left.

Slovakia has attempted three shots the entire match. Why did they even bother showing up?

SPOILER!

Paraguay 2, Slovakia 0--Final.

CONMEBOL improves to 6-0-2 in World Cup 2010 group play and Paraguay moves to the top of Group F with New Zealand and Italy yet to play.

Slovakia didn't register a shot on goal until two minutes into stoppage time.

SPOILER!

New Zealand 1, Italy 0--7th minute.

Early shocker from Mbombela Stadium. A free kick puts the ball into the box, where it is flicked on with a header and then deflected off Cannavaro's leg before settling at the feet of an onrushing Shane Smeltz, who toepokes the ball to far post to grant the Kiwis their first-ever lead in a World Cup match.

Replays, however, suggest Smeltz might have been offside at the time the free kick was flicked on (prior to Cannavaro's touch), so it possibly should've been disallowed.

EDIT: Replays not as conclusive as first thought. ;-)

SPOILER!

Italy 1, New Zealand 1--29th minute.

Il Floparazzi levels the match--how else?--on the strength of Daniele de Rossi's fall inside the penalty box during a free kick. Unquestionably, New Zealand defender Tommy Smith was tugging on de Rossi's jersey, but no more than what one typically sees on set pieces.

Nevertheless, Vincenzo Iaquinta calmly puts the PK past the keeper, who guesses left while the kick goes right.

Yearrgg, the World Cup ... she be a harsh mistress!

SPOILER!

Italy 1, New Zealand 1--Halftime.

The Kiwis escape to intermission after spending the bulk of the first frame entirely under siege. The Italians dominated the run of play, possessing the ball 74% of the time and outshooting New Zealand, 10-1.

Even so, both goals have doubt to them.

What do the English and Scottish commentators for the ESPN broadcast think of the Italians' histrionics?

"Embarrassing" and "pathetic" keep getting tossed about.

SPOILER!

Itay 1, New Zealand 1--Final.

Lightning strikes again during this Cup as New Zealand takes a point from the holders. Heroic effort on the part of the Kiwis, who were outmatched at every position and in every statistical category--except the score.

Italy tallied 23 shots--five on goal--to New Zealand's 3. The Azzurri kept the ball 72 percent of the time and took FIFTEEN corners; New Zealand had none.

Amazing result. For fans new to the sport questioning the merit of a draw, there is your answer.

The Italy-New Zealand was a great game. Italy hasn't impressed me that much this tournament - of course, no team has looked that dominant really.

So, things are going from bad to worse for Les Bleus. First, Anelka is dismissed. Then Evra talks of flushing out a traitor. And now, today, the director has resigned after the players refused to train as a protest and Evra gets into a verbal spat with the team's fitness trainer.

Keep in mind that Evra is the team captain. What an example!

Only the French ...

Yea, we will see how Brazil does in their second game. I think the tournament has been good so far and worth watching each game because it seems that any team can win or draw. I love that I am at Stay at Home mom because I can watch pretty much every game.

If world cups were decided by the coolness of team crests, then Ivory Coast would mop the floor with everyone,

Kaka not demonstrating any improvement of the poor form he exhibited against North Korea. Every touch he's had today has resulted in a giveaway.

SPOILER!

Brazil 1, Ivory Coast 0--25th minute.

Luis Fabiano, positioned well right of the 6-meter box, fires a laser to near post that beats the keeper and roofs the top of the net.

The Selecao were a bit lucky to get into the area, but credit them for making the most of the chance.
