What the hell was Chicharrito doing on that? Blew an absolute sitter because he hit it like a chopper back up the mound rather than striking it.
 
Hah! Just as I type that, Chicharrito comes back with that. Seriously, I don't understand how a guy can shank a chance as badly as he did a couple of minutes before and then come back and bury that golazo.

Crazy sport, this.
 
Tough tournament for the Mexicans. Tough draw, tough bracket and tough call to start this match with Argentina.

Not sure I can stomach another major refereeing gaffe. Both matches today were marred by terrible decisions that a five-second video review would've overturned. In the end, FIFA is shortchanging itself, because both of these matches became blowouts when, with the correct calls, they could've been barnburners.
 
I hate blaming refs for losses, but Mexico did not keep it together after the first goal. Their fault, not the refs. Crappy way to go out, but at least I find a little solace in the fact that the Tri's best players are all under 23.
 
I just realized that Chicharito scored twice as many goals in this tournament as his future line mate, one wayne rooney.

In about half as many minutes.
 
It's looking more and more like Maradona's abstract judgment in forming a team without players like Zanetti and Riquelme is carrying Argentina.

The quarterfinal vs Alemania will be massive.
 
Holland being waaaay too negative right now. The Dutch aren't even trying to maintain possession or push forward. Instead, they kick it around in back until Slovakia steps up to pressure and then bomb the ball down the pitch.

Starting to hope this strategy backfires.
 
Another Dutch acting job results in a phantom foul against Slovakia. Not very impressed with Holland's style and sportsmanship at the moment.
 
Not sure what Robbie Van Persie was trying to do there. Seriously, if you're Holland and you're attacking, why wouldn't you insist on feeding the ball to Robben at some point and see what he can create, because he will create something?
 
Pretty soft penalty, as Vittek clearly stuck his foot into Stekelenburg to draw it, but Holland victimized the Slovakians with some early dives, so I can't say it wasn't deserved. Besides, it was meaningless in the overall scheme of things; it just served as a final "FU" from Slovakia on its way out.
