WORLD CUP 2010 (TV Schedules and brackets also)

Nice to see that blatant flop carded. Archundia is a sketchy ref, but he got it right on that one.

kjgirl hasn't had much to say of late. Just as well, I suppose--given her admiration of Cristiano Ronaldo's physique, she'd probably be typing with one hand.

KIDDING!!!

The score says North Korea is getting trashed by Ivory Coast (0-2). This is on the tails of having their 0-7 breakdown televised live for the first time in North Korean history. An ESPN article said teams that disappointed in the past ended up doing hard labor as punishment.

Them thar cards were hard earned, especially Pepe's, that was ridiculous.

Mr. Modest, Ronaldo, seems convinced that he shall score from 30 yards out.

Edit: And credit to the ref for forknig out a card for diving.

SPOILER!

Brazil 0, Portugal 0--Half.

Pretty exciting half despite the lack of goals. And though the scoreline doesn't reflect it, Brazil is dominating Portugal in a way I've rarely seen.

Through 45 minutes, Brazil has seen 72 percent of possession, attempted 12 shots (two on goal) and taken five corner kicks. In comparison, Portugal has had the ball on 28 percent of the time and attempted six shots (one on goal) with no corner kicks.

Brazil has had two excellent chances, including one shot that the keeper deflected into the woodwork. Portugal's best chance came on a long-range volley that went wide by a 2-3 meters.

Unfortunate that Ivory Coast has virtually no chance of advancing, even if it wins and Portugal loses. I say virtually no chance because I've never seen a side make up a minus-9 goal differential in one round of matches.

SPOILER!

Brazil 0, Portugual 0--60th minute.

After an inspiring run from Ronaldo, Raul Meireles fires wide when all he needed to do was chip the ball over a prone Julio Cesar.

Best chance of the match so far. Portugal enjoying the run of play so far this half.

Does Cristiano really have the leg to be attempting direct free kicks from 35-plus meters out? Sure doesn't look that way.

(He's no Roberto Carlos!)

SPOILER!

Brazil 0, Portugual 0--Final.

Lackluster second half. Both teams split possession during the final 45 with the Portuguese creating more chances but neither side able to convert them into goals.

The Selecao goes through as Group G champion, while Portugal advances as runner-up.

I blame F-Dub, l00p and kjgirl for the lack of excitement. Had they been here to participate in the chat, these matches would've been much more entertaining.

Teams from CONMEBOL are now an incredible 11-0-3 in this tournament with four group champions. Chile, which currently sits atop Group H, will put that unbeaten mark on the line this afternoon against a desperate Spain side.

I have nothing original or important to say. I just wanted to make the 500th post in this thread. That is all.

Thank you,

Since we cant get both at home I made the sportsbar run again this morning for the matches. Very disappointed in Portugal-Brazil. Ivory Coast dominated as expected but the deficit was just too much and as the 0-0 game went on they had to know that brazil and Portugal were going to just kick it around to a draw. Making the sportsbar run again for afternoon matches to watch both.

Group H is wide open. Hopefully a couple Swiss goals will bring out the best in Spain.

You can search for the Doom 1 ending if you want the reason for my name. It's not as attractive as your picture...

Yawn! I was so anxious to watch the Brasil v. Portugal match that I probably jinxed it for everybody. Such a let down compared to what I was expecting or hoping for. I blame Portugal and their crushing defeat of the soon to be working in hard labor camps N. Koreans.

I also want to say props to the ref on the dive by Tiago. Please let this be contagious.

I was up fabulously late last night so I recorded the match and watched it all the way through without skipping past any seeming dry moments. I enjoyed reading the posts when I saw them. Too funny about KJ and her Ronaldo love.

Here's to the Cheese putting pressure on Espain to make there be some desperation in the matches today. I just hope my BBQ makes it to my mouth and not on the floor if i jump out of excitement.

Los Liiiiiiinks.

Medel gets a yellow card and will miss Chile's next match after the toe of his cleat hits the bottom of a Spaniard's cleat and the Spaniard flops to ground like a fish out of water.

Way to go, ref. You're officially a gullible idiot.

SPOILER!

Spain 1, Chile 0--24th minute.

The worst goalkeeping blunder of the tournament to date leads to an empty net goal for David Villa.

Bravo had come well off his line to clear the ball away from a well-marked Fernando Torres, who was making a run down the left side of the pitch. Only Bravo's clearance didn't go out of bounds, it went UP the field to an onrushing Villa, who booted a bouncing shot at least 45 meters and into goal.

Monumantal mistake there by the goalie. I could understand him coming out if there was an unmarked man coming doen the middle for an uncontested cross...but there wasn't.
