I told my family yesterday that I was locking the doors until Friday morning and staying inside. DUMB - I had forgotten I had a medical appointment this afternoon. I checked to be sure the office was open (and it was). So I bundled up like Nanook of the Frozen North and trudged to the doctor's office in the brutal cold. :brickwall:

Mine was at 8 this morning. 12 degrees and blowing snow in Addison at the time.

HHD,

We had no snow or ice, but I got up and headed to gym early; as usual dressed in gym shorts, t-shirt, and shoes. My door faces West with a small amount of northern exposure. Never hit the concrete outside - opened the door, got hit with that first blast of cold air, closed the door, changed clothes, and started considering what sounded good at lunch.

- any form of chicken soup
- chili
- tortilla soup
- gumbo
- tomato soup w/ a grilled cheese sandwich
- Canadian cheese soup

...all served very hot.

Very particular about gumbo & chili I will eat. Floyd's used to have great gumbo, but since he turned them over to the kids, I won't even consider it. Sadly, that probably still the best in Houston. Hate to say it, but Jason's is probably the best chili here.

I thought chicken soup was for your enemies to bathe in.

The rest of those things on the list I would consider served only during "hell week"

Good decision, Sabre.
Reminds me of my favorite story about my 1980s cat, Smokey. I was an active jogger then (before my knees got old). I would get up at 5:00 to jog. When I went downstairs, Smokey would go with me. When I opened the door to go run, he would go outside to do his morning inspection of his territory. We would meet back at the door after about 25 minutes to go in the house and have breakfast.
One morning it was cold, rainy, and windy. I wore my sweats, warm gloves, and a wool cap to do my jogging. I opened the door to let Smokey out. He sniffed the air a couple of times, then turned around and went back inside. I went on my jog. It was bitter cold, and about halfway through my jog it occurred to me that my cat was smarter than I. From that day forward - if Smokey didn't go, I didn't go!

Try Chuy's tortilla soup -- it's good, especially on a cold day.
