What's Trump got against US Mail and Social Security

Ah Will BUT you by your words admit you pay less with a taxpayer subsidized system
So why should taxpayers subsidize your hobby?

The taxpayer subsidy is to fund deliveries to remote and difficult to serve locations. Parcel post is a money maker for the post office and both FedEx and UPS often use it for last mile delivery. Again all of the alternatives require people and businesses to be wired and computer literate. We may be there someday but we aren't yet.

The reason USPS is cheaper is because it’s subsidized by tax payers. See OP complaint.

So you are getting part of the shipping free.

FedEx and UPS can deliver as well as the pharmacy.
Depends on where you live and how much you can afford. Some services at USPS are profitable, even if it charges a fraction of the cost of their for-profit rivals.

My point is that the USPS as it currently functions, is not a necessity due to alternative shipping options and email.

The are positives and negatives to living remotely, but it’s not the government’s duty to overcome the negatives.

Both UPS and Fedex rely heavily on USPS. They have their SurePost and SmartPost programs through USPS. Add in Amazon and you have USPS 3 largest customers. You can't just flip that switch overnight. I would be fine with a clear detailed plan to either shut down USPS or continue to reduce the govt subsidy but Trump's plan putting the JackA he has appointed as postmaster general is not the right approach.

In a competitive marketplace where all the major carriers use USPS for some last mile delivery and shared logistics what happens to the price charged by UPS, Fedex, DHL et all if USPS is not available?

You will pay more for their service due to reduced competition for similar sized/weight items.

Amazon already figured this one out.

Rather than 25 million people without broadband, Microsoft's research indicates "162.8 million people are not using the internet at broadband speeds".

FCC estimates 25M people without broadband access, Microsoft estimates 162M people are not using internet at broadband speeds.

FCC estimate based on acess to broadbans within a census block. 2% = 100% .
The other key problem is the FCC's use of census blocks, which lacks location specificity.

"In rural areas, these blocks can be quite large. If broadband access is delivered to a single customer in that block, the entire block is counted as having service. We must be able to count those within the census block who are unserved," wrote Kahan.

Even if broadband speed is available for internet access there is no mention of cost of service. USPS is pay per peice sent no received by the destination.

Just wow. No "payroll" tax and and employee match? Like Social Security isn't already in a delicate financial balancing act. I know rich conservatives say that people should not depend on Social Security for retirement. I agree, but I think pulling the rug out from under people who count on that to maintain some semblance of a lifestyle is a historically bad idea .... like parking planes wingtip to wingtip at Pearl Harbor bad. "Should" or no, a lot of people are dependent on those SS checks. Letting Trump sabotage Social Security will cost him no friends at Mara Lago or Trump Tower, but he needs to spend some time with old people in Gainesville Texas.

And screwing up the US Postal Service to enhance his election chances? Beyond the pale. The US Mail has been able to handle mail in ballots since the Civil War. Of course, in all that time it never had to face "leadership" anything like that being supplied by the Puffy Prevaricator. I cannot remember a Democratic Presidential nominee less impressive than Joe Biden, but I'm enthusiastically backing him because the alternative is a gangster style, ethically challenged, narcissism blinded nutcase with no respect for the traditions of our country.
USPS has lost numerous bills, checks, letters, and merchandise addressed to me over the years. At my previous rural address, I received mail addressed to others and didn't get all my mail on a weekly basis. It was a rare week that I did not receive the wrong mail. I would actually deliver misdirected mail to nearby neighbors and many did the same for me. I complained numerous times to local postmaster but service never improved.

As a result of poor unreliable service, I took steps to electronically automate all of my bills and checks, move prescriptions to UPS or FedEx, and put all correspondence on email or social media. All I get now are ads. Why do I have to spend my tax dollars on this crappy service when I have spent my time and money to make it completely unnecessary?

Even without deliberate fraud this is another reason why massive mail-in ballots are bad. Too many will get lost in the system.

Too bad you weren't around in 1775 to debate this with Ben Franklin. I think he could have brought you around.

Up until Trump began his maladministrstio the only problems I regularly encountered were from unreliable people promising "THE CHECK IS IN THE MAIL!"

Societies evolve. Technology and innovation are wonderful things when applied correctly. Humans driving around in jeeps with the driver side on the right will one day be a thing of the past. We can just all sit around and be nostalgic about it.

I get all my prescriptions from the VA through USPS....do you want to pay for my medical care and more in shipping me medicine?
First of all, thanks for your service. Pharmaceuticals get delivered every day through multiple services not named the USPS.

You are very fortunate to live in an area where the local post office is doing a good job. I've moved a few times in my life. The place I lived from 2008-2019 had a horribly run post office that rarely went a week without losing mail.

I looked into buying a UPS center franchise a few years back. After interviewing a few owners, I found the best chance for success was to locate in an area such as my own, where the post office was doing a horrible job. Apparently, this is not an uncommon problem.

First of all, your welcome. If I could turn back the clock and do it all over again I would.
Tha'ts not my point about pharmaceuticals being delivered by other carriers. My point is do you want to pay more as an American taxpayer to have the medicine delivered?

I am sure the savings from not having a USPS or a substantially smaller one would easily pay for it. There should also be a process where the local pharmacy could fill the prescriptions and be reimbursed by the VA.

The USPS does an exceptional job on a national basis. I have owned two companies that were 80% dependent on USPS delivery and was very satisfied with their performance over the years.

We would ship 5000+ mailing addresses a week and the delivery compliance was so good that we dropped the insurance and self insured. Failed delivery was an extreme exception. When USPS provided Delivery Confirmation on Priority and 1st class mail with electronic barcode confirmation they were the most cost effective carrier for under 2 lbs in the US. Probably still are for 2 day delivery.

Three companies have a long history with USPS and probably would not have grown to their current success if USPS was the failure that many suggest.

Netflix was USPS delivery long before streaming was feasible. They continue a delivery business today with USPS to some parts of the US that has inadequate internet capability.

Ebay is a success story of USPS reliability.

Amazon started as a book seller and uses USPS today.

Perhaps some politics has entered the current USPS discussion.

More than 223,000 absentee ballots were returned to Clark County as undeliverable mail during the June primary, .... Because of COVID-19 concerns, officials opted for the first all-mail election in state history. Unlike other counties, Clark County mailed ballots to all — not just active — voters, in part because of legal pressure from state and national Democrats. Of the 1,325,934 ballots mailed out in Clark, 223,469 were returned as undeliverable. About 305,000 were returned by voters, verified and counted by the county.

More than 223K absentee ballots returned undelivered in primary
