What's the big deal with the pope

Id love to see the pope and Im not catholic. It's great to be around happy people feeling joy. You don't have to be cynical all the time.

I imagine being around catholics who are listening to the pope is like being in the rose bowl when we won the title.

I was at a frenh bar in nyc when they won the world cup in paris, i dont care about the french team but it was great.

There is some pleasure in one Christian sect calling out the supposed bs of another.

Its a pleasure in general to see any bs called out, excepting my own, of course.

I think it is pretty cool to see the person who is filling the post of a very historically important role.

I don't know how relevant he is anymore, but still might be cool to see.

My grandmother, who I loved very much, worshiped the Pope. Seriously. Of course, she only voted for Kennedy because he was Catholic. That was enough for her.

I made the mistake once when I was about 8 to question her about the Catholic Faith, and if I recall, I said something to the effect of, "I think its stupid that Priest that aren't aloud to marry, give marital advice and a test before you can get married".

I though my head was going to melt from the laser beams that shot out of her eyes. I was tested on all the Catholic prayers and such each summer we visited. I don't think I returned to "favorite" status until I became the first and only doctor in the family. Good thing she got to see that.

She met Pope John Paul II. She would have walked uphill both ways in 40 feet of snow to see this one if she were still here.

I wish I could have that kind of faith.....sometimes. If you never ask a question....you'll always get an answer you like.

I'm a pseudo-agnostic Episcopalian, and I'd probably go out to the Ratz, if I had the time. Heck, I was glued to the online feed in my office for a few hours once Conclave puffed white smoke, just to hear him speak a few words in Italian. He's an historic figure.

I imagine that kind of excitement is ratcheted up several notches for a believer.

You just have to feel some excitement about a guy who has his own bobble-head doll, and image on a soap on a rope.
I'll bet the head of your religion doesn't have those things, and I've never seen a Methodistmobile or anything like that.

I think the real question should be why does one section of Christianity (much less some other religion) try to disprove another section (ie. Catholics)?

As if any of the stuff can be proven beyond resonable doubt. Just believe in whatever you choose and let the next person do the same without trying to tear their faith down.

thanks Hayden.

and I am not saying that Catholics are right and others are wrong. I am just saying that Catholics could be right and others could be wrong.
