What are you listening to?

While eating lunch and listening to George's Tommy James tune, I thought of this one and listened again.

In 1963 The Kingsmen, a garage band paid a $50 studio fee to record a monster hit that was released in late 1963 and stayed on the charts into 1964. Alas, the Kingsmen were a one hit wonder. Record sales were helped as the song was banned by many AM radio stations at the time - google it to read why. The song was played by virtually every band that played a party in the 60's close to the end of the decade.

Bring's back some good memories including my first girlfriend:

Farm Aid II at Manor Downs, in 1986.

Some friends and I had stage passes for this. We got them from a friend that worked for the Agriculture Department. We are standing to the right of SRV, in the wings.

We were there for it all. It started at 7 am. on July 4th to 2 am on July 5th. Saw all kinds of musical acts, from George Jones to Steppenwolf. Actors like Heather Locklear and Barbara Bach. Even Jesse Jackson and Hulk Hogan. Was quite a day.

snek - speaking of electronic, are you familiar with Royksopp? This is what I am listening to during lunch....

or the studio version:

Yes, I love Royksopp!

These two are among my favorites of theirs. The first ended up in a Geico commercial and I vowed to continue to like it, and I did.

and

And if you enjoy those you will gush over the lush and creative work of Kruder & Dorfmeister. Geniuses whether it's their own work or remixes.

Get down, everybody...

They transform songs like

into (omg, so amazing and haunting)

Bonus: Dorfmeister's side project, Tosca.

You introduced me to some really good new stuff snek!!

I especially like the Kruder & Dorfmeister cuts (yes I have heard the one used by Geico) and Truby Trio is awesome too! I will be seeking some of their other cuts on u-tube.

Snek.

I'm way old and it has taken me a while to figure out how to listen to some of the music you post here. I can't just listen to it without getting restless. I have to be doing something else, like reading. Then it just kind of smooths things out, mellow and hypnotic floating around back there.

A very typical response, OH. In fact, more open-minded than many who just shuffle that genre off as all sounding the same. I commend you. It's not for everybody for sure. That you even try, I respect greatly. I don't like the majority of electronic music. But what I do like, and I like a lot, I dig into with gusto.

Worster, do you like or know Massive Attack? I will post an original and then a remix by the Reggae genius, Mad Professor. He creates such a lush soundscape it is at times mind blowing. I have heard it described as ear candy. Very relaxing. In the original the voice is Tracey Thorn, half of the duo that is Everything But The Girl. I love the feel of both these songs. Somber, light.

Mad Professor Dub:

This mixes very well with this remix

and this was usually in the rotation too. simple, basic, groovy with reggae dub tones.
