Way too early republican primary thread

Kasich just announced his solution to low teacher morale - get rid of teacher's lounges. I'm far from a one issue voter, but if this is his attitude then I will find somebody else to support. I'll look at fiorina more now.

Based on this article, it sounds like he was speaking in jest, but why even go there? He should know how this sounds, and it gives kooks like Randi Weingarten a chance to divert attention away from a real discussion on education policy. Dumb move by an otherwise smart candidate.

Also, why should a candidate for President get tangled up in education reform anyway? You can't say you want to close the Department of Education. That just sounds nutty (even if it isn't). However, if I was running, my position would be that the federal government should encourage states to reform their public education systems as they see fit and that my Education Department's goal would be to help promote and facilitate the states to enact their own reforms. Don't get tangled up in vouchers. Don't get tangled up in teacher unions, pay, etc. That's all dumb and outside of your jurisdiction.

New polls are out. Looks like Rubio is the strongest GOP candidate. If he's the nominee against HRC, he would beat her decisively at least as things are today. A 7-point lead in Pennsylvania is big. If that actually held up, it would be an electoral rout at least by contemporary standards.

If the Republicans want to win this election and not simply make a statement that they hate the political process they'll nominate Rubio or Kasich. Any other candidate and they open the door for Clinton to squeak out a win.

If republicans could just put some minor differences aside and get behind Rubio, they would thrash HRC. She is going to go limping into the general like a 80 mph fastball just waiting to get knocked out of the park. The only way the republicans mess it up is by sending a one armed blind guy up to the plate. Rubio might not be Babe Ruth but he would absolutely hammer her. I already have some money on him to win the nomination. I would bet a ton on him to beat hrc.

I still prefer Kasich, but I could certainly support Rubio. He has a lot of appeal, and he would spank HRC. If the e-mail issue is still going on, she'd carry the Northeast (except New Hampshire), Maryland, California, Illinois, and not much else, and even some of those might be close. If the e-mail issue fizzles out, she'd overwhelmingly win those states as well as Washington, Oregon, Delaware, New Mexico, and maybe Michigan, which still wouldn't be enough to win. The GOP would also hold the Senate, even though 2016 is supposed to be a tough year for them.

Rick Fairy had decided to suspend his campaign.

There are three reasons why he would have made a good President. His hair, his glasses, uh, um . . .I can't think of the other one. Oops.

Prediction: Everyone but Cruz and Kasich attack Trump. They both avoid attacking him for different reasons. Cruz is either waiting for Trump's major gaffe to occur and have the Tea Party support fall to him or has resigned himself to being a running-mate for Trump. Kasich continues to be the only one talking about accomplishments yet nobody cares because his comments are not salacious enough.

Trump continues to fight anyone who challenges him to cheers from the crowd that don't care what he stands for or has accomplished but merely like the reality show element to his campaign.

I'm particularly looking forward to Fiorina and Carson's role in the debate.

Yep, thats why I was surprised SH left him out of his list. Personally not as anticipatory of this one as the first - not sure why, guess I am getting a bit bored with the whole crowd.

Carly Fiorina has overtaken Trump in New Hampshire. Link. She is becoming a serious force the be reckoned with.
The GOP primary has a woman in 1st and an African American and two Hispanic men in a statistical tie for 3rd.

That can't be because my liberal friend told me the GOP is misogynist and racist.

I think Rubio wins this if he can get any momentum going at all. I refuse to believe that trump's support in the polls will translate to votes. Carson is a good guy and very smart but I don't think he gets people excited enough to stand out in such a big field. He gives long textbook answers in a three second sound clip world.
Fiorina is interesting. She stands out by being the only woman, a role she is probably used to, and is a fighter to the core. Me and several friends all think her voice sounds like nails on a chalkboard to us. We wondered if we were being sexist unintentionally, but either way we all had the same thought. She definitely had some good moments in the debate and fits the outsider role well. I'm glad I added her to my group that I bet on at +1500 a month back.
To me, Rubio has it all. He's a good speaker from a swing state from immigrant parents. He is able to personalize issues instead of talking straight policy. Just not sure he has enough of the "******* factor" as deez would call it, to win the primary.

I think Rubio would be a good VP to Fiorina. He can season his experience and brand in the VP office that gives him a lot of flexibility and clout to modernize the GOP. 4 or 8 years from now he could be unbeatable.

Can you imagine the 1st woman POTUS and 1st Hispanic VPOTUS on the same ticket? Fiorina/Rubio sounds more like a ticket for a PTO board election in Queens, NY. This is what the GOP needs.

This is good. Carson on CNN RE: Planned Parenthood.

I'm learning more about Margaret Sanger...holy $^&$. People want to remove everything related to General Lee, but yet there are folks un-ironically saying Sanger should be on the $10.

Margaret Sanger has written and said things that sound like they came out of Mein Kampf - stuff that would make David Duke cringe. She was a big believer in racial purity and hygiene.

The main complaints I've heard about her are that her voice isn't pleasant and that people don't like her eyes. She has clearly had an eye job. Are voters shallow enough to vote on that sheet of thing? I hope not, but I suspect that some are especially when we're taking about women voters judging female candidates.

I agree about Rubio. He's superb. He has a great story, speaks well, and is intelligent. Two other noteworthy things about Rubio that I consider pluses. First, he has a hot wife. I don't want a slutty skank who has posed nude (like Trump's wife) to be First Lady, but a tasteful and classy but hot political wife is always a good thing.

Second, Rubio's brother in law is the yoga instructor from the movie "Couples Retreat."

Finally, we need to settle a rhetorical conundrum. What is the relationship between the ******* penalty and the **** flinging monkeys? To me, they aren't synonymous, but there is a casual relationship between them. The GOP adopts confrontational, vitriolic, and sometimes apocalyptic rhetoric (especially on illegal immigration, Obama conspiracies about his place of birth and religion, and sometimes abortion and gay marriage) to appeal to and motivate **** flingers to turn out to vote. I would also consider the politicians who deploy this tactic as a big part of their appeal (Michelle Bachmann, Ted Cruz, Sarah Palin, etc.) to be **** fingers.

The ******* penalty is the percentage points they lose (probably about 2 - 3 percent) in general elections for no reason other than the stupid statements they make to appeal to **** flingers.

Has anyone mentioned that Carly Fiorina apparently made up her passionate Anti-Planned Parenthood plea? That turns me off in a big way.

I've read other stories that say her description was accurate. I may have to watch the video myself to figure out what the truth is.

As far as Fiorina's appearance, much like Ted Cruz, her default political countenance is hostile and combative with voice inflection to match. Seems like Cruz is making a concerted effort to smile more and act lighthearted.

I honestly don't think Fiorina is too attractive/unattractive for the job of President, but I tend to mirror the emotions of people I'm paying attention to and I don't like to be angry or deal with people who are angry a lot of the time. I know it's high praise to be called "a fighter" and I admire people who will go to the mattresses for principle or in face of grave injustice. Most times I see angry people they get what they want with an outburst, but could have more quickly achieved the same result with a smile and a friendly suggestion. I understand that in politics it's not that easy, but too much anger sill leaves me uncomfortable.

If there's anything she needs to improve, it's her demeanor. She does need to learn to be a bit warmer and more pleasant. I don't equate her with Cruz though. She can be confrontational and sometimes overly so, but she generally stays on real issues and policy. Cruz will go all over the map with personal attacks and crusades, which I think is a bigger turnoff.
