Trouble in Paradise?

Amen, Brother. I told a lady this morning at the gym that most of my close friends were older than me (of, grammar freaks, I know it should be "I", but that just sounds weird), and I've lost most of in recent years while others have Parkinsons, Alsheimer's, ALS, CTE, cancer, heart problems, so pending back surgery doesn't seem like such a bad deal.

The greatest surgeon ever told me, "Son, it's called getting old; there's a remedy for that, but as your friend I gotta tell you, you ain't spiritually ready for that one yet"

Take care of yourself, and keep us posted. Worst case, Worster will organize a road trip to Bexar County, and we'll kidnap you and takeover some dive bar. :hookem2:

Keep us updated on your return to being here and posting  obnoxiously
again!!

Hook 'Em!! 🤘🤘
Obnoxiousl?!?!? Obnoxious?!?!?!
Obnoxious!?!?!?
Well, I guess if the oxshoe fits...?!?!?! Kinda funny, I was born & raised in Red Raider country & started college at tceh. Many of my tceh friends prided themselves on being obnoxious. Being told they (we) were obnoxious the response was always, "Gee, Thanks!" Truth is, they shot for UT Arrogant but missed.
Anyway, grateful to be on green side of dirt, grateful to be a Longhorn, grateful to be able to be 1 of many sponsors of Hornfans, & my gratitude list is too long to enumerate on the space limitations availavle.

As a wise old (alcoholic) friend once told me , "Ain't none of us gitin' out of this deal alive." Unspoken message being, "...so enjoy it while we're here."

Amen to that 1sa, glad you’re home. No place on earth more people get sick than in the hospital.
Afib is a weird one. You read about it and find out it’s very common and most who have it do not even realize it. Then it gets bad and worse things occur. So, glad you got it controlled and are now home. All we have to do now is hang in there till next season rolls around. Wife and I are going to try to attend some baseball and softball games to keep the spirits high but all in all just counting days till kickoff.
Hookem - and keep hanging in there.

Thanks, Nash. Hope you & Mrs. Nash enjoy the Beisbol & Softball.
I had a bout of A-fib 5.5 yrs ago. Got it under control (until Friday past), but my med (Ameoderone sp) caused thyroid to go out of wack causing Graves Disease & TED. Treating TED side effect caused diabetes. I've decided to quit going to doc as every time I do I pick up a new diagnosis (teasing about DCing docs). So I'm now taking meds to control side effects of that med which I'm taking to control side effect of another med, etc., etc., etc. ad. nausium. Getting old kinda sucks, but I'm not ready for the alternative.....yet. I'm a little jealous of my friends my age who are healthy as when they were 30. God bless them; hope they know what they have.

From my experiences - they don't. Kinda like "you don't know what you got till it's gone".
Sounds like you are an experienced American Pharma drugy (how in the heck should that be spelt). I have become a real pain as a patient to all my Drs. I resist meds and sometimes treatment because of just what you describe. Being a former Med Tech I am one of those with just enough knowledge to be a real pain in the a**, questioning everything and usually giving in but a few Docs appreciate the questions and have agreed I do not need everything that's on the plate.
Hang in there and read - read - read, and challenge when you don't agree or have questions. Its an army of pharma reps out there pushing every medicine known to man for any ailment they can come up with. Ok, sorry to ramble, I'm just a pain about some things - no comment from wife allowed.

Good idea to think carefully about multiple diagnoses and multiple doctor visits. I like and trust my docs, but have been very assertive about overlapping treatments. Docs mean well, but have made them, so far, stay out of their silos. Stay the course!

(Don't know you other than a poster on this forum, but also juggle medical needs and wish you well. And, of course, share a love of Texas sports. HOOK'EM!)

The pharmaceutical Merry go round is straight from hell. I am very, very blessed to not be on it.

I feel for you, 1sa. A gal I knew in high school was killed by a drunk driver just a couple of months before she was to graduate from college (she was going to be an RN).

I will NEVER get behind the wheel if I’ve had anything to drink (no matter how small the quantity). I am my own “designated driver.”

I consider myself lucky with my recent hospital stay over Christmas for pneumonia. I had a couple of face-to-face chats with the physician and he promised that I would not be released until they were certain everything was under control and that I didn’t need supplemental oxygen. And that’s how it played out. (This was a UTMB hospital, btw.)

Excellent, glad you rcvd good care. Thank God for UTMB. BTW, I.'m not bitching about my entire hospital experience. Nursing staff have been outstanding (for the most part. Unfortunately there have been a few Nurse Ratchets along the way.).

Hey, upon reflection, I owe you guys an apology. I did not intend to hijack this thread & turn it into an episode of "General Hospital" meets "As the World Turns".

GJ,

Not sure if you are as long in the tooth as I am (73 next Tuesday), but I hope everyone realizes that pneumonia is serious business for us old f*rts. A close friend contracted pneumonia last July and it turned into sepsis. He very nearly didn't make it through that and he is still recovering. It affected literally every organ and system in his body. He was a very robust man prior to this but it has taken its toll on him.

No apology necessary, 1sa. This has been very informative and I appreciate everything you shared.
Now, back to that furk train! :headbang:

Yes, certainly no apology needed. I'm really sorry about what you had to go through. No one should have to go through that. I was hit by a hit and run driver and suffered some broken bones and hospital time from that so I have an idea what it's like.

I'm glad we can be here to support you. I hope we are encouraging.

Thanks Rick & Run. Hornfans gives me great pleasure, thanks Dion. Sometimes I get carried away ("ALWAYS" according to Mrs. 1sa). We may disagree on a few things but we all bleed Burnt Orange (the reason I'm a Nazi when politics are introduced...that's a sure way to create division). I truly love the comradere of fellow geezer Horns.

I'm about 7 years behind you. And I can't forget that pneumonia was what did in Jim Henson (the great Muppet creator), although I think his case was a much different strain than mine. But yeah, ever since the Covid pandemic I've had a blood oxygen monitor that I can clip onto a finger. That prompted me to visit the ER when my oxygen level dipped to 89%.

Now back to the main topic of this thread:

Back in the summer of '03 my wife and daughter and I were staying at the Hyatt Hill Country resort, and I guess there was also at that time a gathering of some old aggys (age 70 and older). Anyway, one afternoon I was walking over to the pool or somewhere and had on a UT golf shirt. A couple of aggys were walking in the opposite direction, and as we passed each other one of them yelled "GIG EM!" at the top of his lungs. I'm glad to say that I didn't break step or jump or show any other indication of alarm (because I pretty much expected some sort of shenanigans). I hope my lack of reaction ruined his whole afternoon.

You sound like some of my old girlfriends.
If I had a dime every time I heard thst…

i do the same from time to time, one poster here gets really mad, so
I throw in a ‘rider’ that includes football.
Ex: ‘My Afib started while watching the SEC Championship’
That should check the box

Thanks for the reminder.
I guess I could have checked the box by stating that my A-fib hospitalization allowed me the privilege of watching the Cotton Bowl from a hospital bed...with frequent interruptions for vitals check, blood draws & most importantly, frequent episodes of nurses rushing into my room to check on me 'cause my telemetry leads came off or my heart rate blew off the screen when certain plays (both good & bad) happened. I think the nurses would have preferred that I turn the game off, but they would have had the load my corpse into a body bag for that to happen.

1sa
The thing about you is
You have such a great attitude
Wishing you back to your "normal" quickly
Back on topic
Did aggy give themselves a trophy when they led the SEC in most highly rated recruits entering the portal?

I love Horns down:

1. We are in your brain housing group. You think about us. All. The. Time.

2. When Bevo goes Horns down, you better make a hole , cuz the Big Fella is comin’ at you and snot’s gonna be flyin’. Ask Uga.

3. Horns Up? Horns Down? “It don’t make a ****….we’re gonna kick your asses.”
Georgia's UGA will long remember when Bevo showed him the horns down sign.

Thanks, Nash. Hope you & Mrs. Nash enjoy the Beisbol & Softball.

1SaHORN, did you get the Covid jab and any follow up jabs?

I've had 4 jabs. I really believe they work. Mrs 1sa & I caught COVID from our son. At the time I had had 2 jabs, Mrs. 1sa had 1 & our son had 0. Sonny 1sa damn near died. The sickest I've ever seen him & he is ordinarily a healthy young man. Mrs. 1sa was not nearly as sick as Sonny & I wasn't all that sick even though I have enough diagnosis to fill a med journal including emphazima.
