Transfer Portal 2024

If you think Mulkey plays by the rules, go ask Pokey Chatman about the beef over Griner and the bru-ha-ha that ensued…Mulkey could give a damn about “rules shmooooles”….:puke:

She's the only WBB coach who comes to mind that's actually been slapped on the wrist (short suspension) by the NCAA for recruiting violations.

Anyone who watched Oregon State in the tourney is going to know how big of a gut punch this is.

Edit: “Junior guard Talia von Oelhoffen announced Tuesday that she’s entering the transfer portal. Von Oelhoffen is expected to be the first of several Oregon State players to head to portal, a source with knowledge told The Oregonian/OregonLive.”

Just awful for Kamie.

Washington State star guard Charlisse Leger-Walker has entered the transfer portal and will have one year of eligibility remaining due to the COVID-19 waiver, the school confirmed to ESPN on Tuesday.

Leger-Walker, whose season ended in January because of an ACL tear, indicated her departure on Tuesday in a social media post.”

I won’t be surprised if Washington St loses more players because they won’t be in a Power 5 conference the next two years. Affiliate members of the WCC currently

I've been using TheNext's portal tracker below but wasn't sure if they would include Texas and OU (sux) in the Big12 or SEC and neither school appeared anywhere until Sooner G Kelbie Washington showed up this morning - still showing as Big12.
  • Current number of entries: 989
  • Those with new schools noted: 48

Thanks for sharing! Scrolling through the list, I find some of the portal entries to be very interesting.

Oregon post, 6'7 Kennedy Basham from Phoenix has entered the transfer portal. We recruited her out of high school, but don't think we were a finalist.

She went there the year after they got a commit from another Texas target, 6' 8" Phillipina Kyei. Did Graves sell her on a Two Towers lineup?

She visited Texas officially before ultimately choosing Baylor. She didn't get much playing time this past season, and that's with Baylor having little post depth in front of her.

I thought we were in really good shape for her at one time.

I am very high on 6'4" Reagan Beers of Oregon State should she enter the portal.
If any of their transfers are considering Texas, they can always reach out to someone they know who made the same move. I don’t see Beers leaving OrSt. but she has to know Taylor somewhat just from recruiting visits.

6'6" sophomore in the portal out of mid-major Bellarmine (KY) University. She missed this season due to injury, but here are highlights from a freshman season where she averaged 15 pts and 11 reb. I would be looking under every rock for a BIG right about now. We are left with Gaston and Jones, both of whom have been riddled excessively with numerous injuries.

I don't see her leaving either, unless she's one of the several the media is saying will be entering the portal from there. Losing that major conference affiliation really sucks because Oregon State has historically had a good program.

When you consider Texas has 4 starters from this past season returning (as far as we know) next season, plus Rori who should return to the starting lineup, plus 2 players in Gaston and Amina who have started plenty in their careers at Texas, it's gonna be very tough to gain a transfer who will be better than any of them and not destined to be a backup. It's a good problem for Texas to have; means we aren't looking to plug major holes.

But, if we want to improve our depth at thin positions (Center) and find a reliable 3-point shooter, that would make sense to me. I do think we need more speed and quickness in the backcourt, but Rori, Preston, and Lee provide that even though the latter two are unproven at the collegiate level. As far as I've seen so far, no of our coaches have started to "follow" any portal entrants. I definitely think they will be very selective with their targets.

I agree... we're sort of in the same situation as this time last year. I think only difference makers will be targeted who wouldn't have an issue with competition for playing time. Biggest need is definitely depth at the five with some size and perhaps a shooter.

Y’all think Vic will go after Hailey Van Lith now that she’s in the portal? I mean Vic would bring out the best in her.
Wow, I thought she was out of years, but I guess the COVID bonus. Interesting how she's not sticking around LSU for another run. She's a scary good player....but I'm a fan of her personally.

Will be interesting to see where HVL ends up this time. I’d love to know how this portal decision came about

Supposedly, Van Lith left Louisville because at 5'6, her future as a pro is at point guard. But, doesn't seem like she developed her PG skills enough at LSU. She's still an undersized shooting guard.

I don't think another year in college is going to alter her ultimate professional career. I think she'll be destined to play pro ball overseas.

According to this nugget I stumbled across - it came from The Baylor Lariat so take it with a grain of salt: “Vasconcelos chose Baylor over Texas and is rated as a four-star recruit by ESPN.”

I wouldn’t mind seeing her drive down I-35 and write off last year’s choice as a life lesson.
Agreed. I'd definitely be interested in her. I pay little attention to her freshman season stats because Nikki Collen hasn't done anything to prove she can develop young players. For the most part she has put a plug-n-play team on the floor full of transfers and others she inherited with the program.

Littlepage-Buggs and Fontleroy came in ready to play as freshmen last year, and half the time she doesn't know what to do with them. Then there's Denae Fritz who started 31 of 32 games for Iowa State last season, then transferred to Baylor and hardly hit the floor this season. Incidentally, she's back in the portal also.

Young talent at Texas willing to buy into the process and put in the work gets developed. Vic and his staff did the same at Mississippi State.

I know in past years that Vic has had his end of season meetings with each player by Wednesday-Thursday of the week following the last game. We don't know what they discuss but I assume any Portal activity out would be coming shortly. Considering the number of players who transfer each season (1,036 players have entered the portal so far), it would be remarkable if Texas had none.
